The space
Set in Fortuneswell on the Isle of Portland, our lovingly restored Victorian stone cottage is a cosy, comfortable base for exploring Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. With sea views across Lyme Bay, a secure courtyard garden, and Chesil Beach just a 6-minute walk away, it’s an easy place to slow down, head out for coastal walks, and come back to relax.

Well suited to couples, families and dog owners who want a cosy, calm base with easy access to coastal walks and sea air.

Inside, everything’s set up so you can switch off and feel at home straight away.

Ground floor
A welcoming hallway leads into a cosy sitting room with Fire TV, board games and puzzles, ideal for relaxed evenings in. The dining room has a feature electric fire and a collection of local books, while the fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for easy home cooking, including a gas hob, double oven and now a dishwasher for easier stays. There’s also a utility area with a washing machine and a downstairs WC.

First floor
The spacious bathroom with a large rain shower, separate bath and heated towel rail makes unwinding after a day outdoors a pleasure. The main bedroom has a king-size bed and partial sea views, alongside a twin bedroom with practical storage and coastal touches.

Second floor (loft)
Light-filled and peaceful, the loft bedroom offers panoramic sea views across Lyme Bay and a TV with Firestick, a lovely retreat at the end of the day.

Family-friendly touches
Little ones are very welcome. A highchair and travel cot are provided, along with two toddler toilet seats, step stools, children’s cutlery and crockery, plus a small selection of games and books. Please bring your own cot bedding.

Dog-friendly details
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome (£25 per stay). The fully enclosed courtyard garden offers extra peace of mind, and we provide two small dog bowls, towels and poo bags so you can pack a little lighter. Dogs are downstairs only and should be kept off furniture (unless fully covered with your own throws). Please don’t leave dogs alone in the cottage unless safely crated.

Outdoor spaces
To the rear is an enclosed courtyard garden with seating for six, a cantilever parasol, and secure storage for wetsuits, bikes or kayaks. At the front, a small patio catches the sun and makes a lovely spot for morning coffee.

Location
Chesil Beach and the South West Coast Path are just a 6-minute walk away, perfect for coastal walks, sea swims and big-sky views. The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy is around a mile away, and Weymouth with its award-winning sandy beach is an easy drive or bus ride.

Good to know
The cottage has full central heating, reliable hot water and Wi-Fi throughout. Due to the building’s historic character, the stairs are fairly steep and may not be suitable for guests with significant mobility issues or unsupervised very young children. For security, an external camera monitors the entrance area only.

Your stay
Guests can also relax and recharge with our Stretch & Sizzle experience, which is coastal yoga, a seaside sauna, or both - with a guest discount available on request.

Explore the Jurassic Coast
From sunrise walks on Chesil to golden-hour sea views from the loft, Our Place in Portland is all about easy coastal living. Comfy, welcoming, and perfectly placed for exploring the Jurassic Coast.

Guest access
The whole house including gardens.

Where I went to school: Richmond, Surrey
Most useless skill: Carrying pebbles home from the beach.
After 20 years in education, I started a new adventure. Dan and I fell in love with Portland and the Jurassic Coast, with its dramatic cliffs, sweeping sea views and endless walks. We found a Victorian cottage in need of TLC and lovingly renovated it into a cosy retreat full of character. Hosting lets us share our love of Portland, from golden sunsets over Chesil Beach to the simple joys of coastal living. We can’t wait to welcome you.
