Exceptional check-in experience

Recent guests gave the check-in process a 5-star rating.
This rustic cabin has been in my family for 4 generations. It's well loved, a bit quirky, sometimes musty and perfect for a family get away. We welcome well trained dogs, and have high expectations that you will respect the place and leave it in good shape for us and future guests. We welcome families, but after bad experiences, we are not available for your group of friends, reunion, or bachelor/(ette) party. We ask you to bring your own linens. The water in the cabin is not drinkable

The space
Located about half a mile down a country road, this cabin has been in my family for 4 generations and is well loved. It's only open for 3 seasons, and is set up for family fun. All the beds are single, save one full sized bed in the back bedroom, and one queen sized bed in the bunk house. There is a well equipped kitchen which is stocked with staples like olive oil, vinegar, flour, sugar, napkins, basic spices, cleaning supplies, etc., 1.5 bath rooms with a tub and a shower, a good supply of games, lots of outdoor picnic table options, a dock for swimming, large raft for floating, and an array of water toys. There are also a variety of canoes and kayaks available.

Camp, as we call the cabin, is set up to spend time on the water and with the ones you came with so there is no TV, no Cable, no internet, and no phone, though verizon, spectrum, sprint, and At&T users have good service. I can't confirm other providers. Instead we offer the sound of loon calls on the lake, a picture window view of the lake from the living room, a fire place, a deck and benches and chairs for enjoying the water and the view. There are games galore to keep you entertained. There is a radio a set up to play your music through blue tooth.

No one lives here full time so we have a "leave it as you found it policy". We have hired a cleaning person who will clean between each guest to keep the place clean, but we still ask that you leave the place neat - put away your dishes, put your trash/recycling in the cans in the garage. There are no laundry facilities on site but there is a laundromat about 3 miles away. Because of the lack of laundry facilities, we are not offering any linens. Each of the beds have a pillow and blankets on them, but please bring your own towels (including kitchen towels and hand towels) and sheets. There is a guide book available to let you know how things work and where to find the important stuff.

The running water to the camp comes from the lake and is not drinkable. It's fine for showering and dish washing, but anything you consume will need to be prepared with bottled water. There are a few public taps which can be used for free or you can buy water from the local Hannafords supermarket about a mile up the road. The camp guide gives you the location of the closest trusted public tap.

Myself, or members of my family are on call if there are any problems.

Guest access
You will have access to the entire cabin, the bunk house and the garage as well as a private dock and all the waterfront equipment (boats, floating mattress, sandbox). We ask that you use these things safely and in accordance with the laws, and with the kind of care and respect you would use for your own belongings. We only allow fires in the indoor fireplace as the property is covered in pine needles and could too easily burn to the ground. If you plan to fish, we ask that you follow Maine state laws and get a fishing license. You can do that on line or from Hussey's General Store, which is an adventure all it's own that is truly not to be missed.

Neighborhood highlights

The cabin has the feel of being secluded because of the trees around the house, but there are neighbors close by on both sides. Most of the homes on camp road (Fire Rd 61) are full time, but the home to the left of ours is a week-end home and is often empty. The house to the right belongs to a lovely couple who have a wonderful extended family with young grandchildren who come for visits. The noise is happy playful noise and not in the least disruptive, but if you want seclusion, this may not be the place.
There is a Hannaford a mile away so you can buy water and other things you need. There is a boat launch roughly the same distance. The Chinah Dinah offers a good meal just up the road. Bach's is an ice cream shop that is within walking distance. There is yoga and a farmer's market in Waterville or Augusta, both about 20 minutes drive. The Lake St George Brewery just openned up a short drive up Rte 3 and it's across the street from an ice cream shop, so there are treats for all ages.
