Welcome to our Winnipeg Treehouse Bed & Bath By The Beach listing! We are delighted to host visitors from around the world by offering our large MASTER BEDROOM as a houseshare, and when you glimpse some of our photos, you'll know why we call our place a Treehouse!
The room we have available is a PRIVATE room in a two-bed, two-bath custom home located on a very quiet little tree-lined street in the Bluff Heights Historic District of Long Beach, just a few blocks from the beach.
This master bedroom also has its own PRIVATE MASTER BATHROOM (with oversized tub), and the room can easily accommodate TWO people in the queen sized bed (the mattress is a firm one). Also included are a very large closet space with mirror doors, a large desk (not pictured), a chest of drawers, and two night stands.
Rates are SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME based on SEASON and DEMAND, so if you see a rate you like, our recommendation is to BOOK IT before it changes! Rates include ALL utilities, parking (which is hard to come by in beach cities!), laundry room access (washer, dryer, drip dry racks, and large folding area), linens and towels, WiFi, furnishings, and whatever else is noted in the "Amenities” tab. So if the current rate does not work for you, please DO NOT ask for a discount…instead, please check the listing regularly for any rate reductions.
We have a MODERATE CANCELLATION POLICY, however, this CHANGES to a LONG TERM CANCELLATION POLICY for stays of 28 or more days (whether you INITIALLY booked 28 or more days, or you ALTER your reservation to add more days that equals 28+ during your stay)...for information about how the Cancellation Policy differs for short versus long term stays, click on the "Cancellation" tab to the right.
If you are interested in an extended stay of 28+ days, please be sure to read the FAQ section of the airbnb website for more info on how longer-term bookings are handled.
For our international visitors from SLOVENIA and any German-speaking countries, we speak fluent Slovene (grew up in Slovenia), as well as a little German, and our next door neighbors are from Holland, so our Dutch visitors also have someone from their homeland to chat with (they also speak German)!
If your budget is too tight for this room, or if you have ADDITIONAL PEOPLE in your group, be sure to also check out our affordable Treehouse Couch By the Beach listing (under "My Other Listings" to the right or in my Profile). Also be advised that sometimes the Couch IS booked, so the living room may not be fully accessible during these times.
The Bluff Heights Historic District (part of the Belmont Heights area of Long Beach) is very eclectic and charming, characterized by historic Craftsman bungalows, an artsy crowd, and a very friendly neighborhood. Our home is a BACK HOUSE on the second floor over garage space, with a deck overlooking a charming garden and surrounded by lots of beautiful trees, where guests can enjoy some rest and relaxation. Living room and kitchen are also available, and grocery stores are within walking distance. We have TWO CATS and ONE DOG, so pet-friendly visitors ONLY please!

I stayed in the Tree house last week. It was just as described. Lara is a great host, welcoming and engaging. I also love her neighborhood. It is architecturally and culturally interesting and safe. I walked to the ocean, to several parks, to a movie in Long Beach's historic theatre, and to several coffee houses. I would go back in a heartbeat, and hopefully will!
I've stayed in multiple AirBNB places around the world, Lara's is definitely the best! So wonderful to meet someone so likeminded in the world of personal development. Whenever we're in Long Beach, we know where we'll be staying :D
Lara's Treehouse was just as good as it can be. We had to prepare our semester abroad and she was so helpful and friendly. Very kind person. She makes you feel home real quick.
Her place is really nice. Her Bed & Bath is as very good so as her Couch. We slept on both of them. Actually there is nothing bad I can say about this place or Lara.
Any time again!
Lara s a lovely person. Had great talks at coffee time. I had not been in the Long Beach area in years and she was very helpful and had lots of info on the area. We walked the area late at night and felt safe. The Tree House is sweet and the hostess is very friendly. The room was clean as was the bathroom. I would stay there again.I love animals, so that was no problem. We didn't spend much time there during the day but what time I was there I felt very comfortable.
Lara (sounds like Sarah) is a fantastic host! I stayed for over two months straight and then came back for a few more days. The location can't be beat and the room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Less than a 15 minute walk and I was on the beach. Great restaurants are only a 5 minute walk away. (I recommend Cafe Piccolo) Film even set up and shot a scene for a new movie, (Veronica Mars) only a couple of doors down from Lara's Treehouse during my stay. I will definitely be back!
This really wasn't a bad stay. Lara is very helpful in telling you what sites to see and what places to go.
The only issue I had was with the rental dates when I was moving out. I moved in a day later than I had originally paid for due to scheduling with my work (I paid for Saturday but wasn't able to move in until Sunday)...and at the end of my stay I needed to move out Sunday, but my booking ended on Saturday. Instead of being nice about it and letting me stay that one extra day at the end (when I moved in a day later at the beginning), Lara "let me pay" for an extra night's stay. So basically I ended up paying for an extra night that I didn't stay there at the beginning. I guess that's not too big of an issue, as she could have not let me stay there and I could have been stranded for the night. Also, there are 2 cats and a dog. I love animals but sometimes the dog's barking got a little annoying when I came home at night (even though I was super quiet).
This place is at a great location and Lara is very welcoming, just be informed that you will be able to hear the neighbors and your roommate do or say anything due to the thin walls. Also, be aware that visitors need to be out at midnight every night.
While I appreciate Melissa's kind words, it seems that in the majority of this review she is expressing issues that she never brought up to me directly, so to respond...
Regarding rental dates...
Her stay got off to a poor start before she got here, as I had to ask her several times to give me a 2-hour check-in timeframe, even though I make it clear in my House Rules that I need guests to make an appt for check-in because my schedule is so variable.
When she finally did give me a timeframe a few days before her arrival to check-in between 2-4pm on Sat. before Easter, she ended up letting me know shortly before her check-in time that she was running late, which I appreciated. But she couldn't give me ANY idea of when she would be able to arrive. So SHE suggested checking in the next day (Easter Sun.) and since I already had plans on Saturday after her scheduled check-in time until late Saturday night, I agreed.
On her checkout day, she seemed to have a similar issue of not knowing when she could check-in to her new place, so at the last minute, she asked to stay an extra night, and asked to pay cash for it (against airbnb policy). I already had plans that evening, and it was an imposition to have her stay an extra night, but I agreed, as it seemed she had nowhere to go.
It was HER issue that she didn't know when she'd arrive, and it was SHE who suggested checking in the next day, and she didn't ask for a free night! If she had, I would have told her that it is not my fault if she was unable to keep her appointment, and it seemed that she understood this when she brought up checking in the next day. And she was already getting a deeply discounted rate for a longer term stay, and I had also let her sister stay a few nights for free, even tho I usually have an additional. guest charge, and it is usually done at time of booking.
I felt that Melissa didn't take responsibility for her own actions and lacked respect for my time, and apparently based on her review above expected me to then offer a free nite to make up for her lack of planning. And she never apologized for the inconvenience. So no, I was not about to throw in a free night after her indecision affected me on four different days, and so yes, I did "let her pay" for an extra night's stay.
Regarding my dog Spoti...yes, she does bark when a newcomer arrives, as she is still a relatively young dog in training. Most dogs will. She also had a very bad experience as a pup and because of it is wary of newcomers for a while until she warms up to them, which I made Melissa aware of. This desensitization process can take a while, and I understand it can be annoying, but Melissa also brought multiple guests to the house, and most dogs will bark if there are strangers coming in and out, especially if in another room. She would at times come home late, and the neighbor's dog would bark as she walked up the path, which also triggered Spoti to bark. But aside from when a guest comes in, Spoti is a quiet dog. Melissa informed me that she had never had a dog, so perhaps the Treehouse was not the best choice for her, as my listing indicates I have two cats and a dog.
Regarding thin walls, yes, they are thin, can't do much about it, but it really is more of an issue late at night. When I was awakened by Melissa and her guests late in the evening, I asked her to be a little more quiet. She never asked that of me, even though I asked if I was being too loud at times, but she never said it was a problem.
When it comes to hearing neighbors, the neighborhood is a relatively quiet area, but the room overlooks an alley with apartment buildings across the way, so during the rare times when there is noise, I pop in some earplugs and shut the window.
Finally, the midnight guest cutoff is also clearly noted in the House Rules, which Melissa was made aware of and agreed to prior to booking.
This is a fabulous place to stay. Lara and her pets are very cool.
I highly recommend it if you're looking to stay in Long Beach.
My second time staying with Lara was perfect. She has a beautiful house and spacious master bedroom that's quiet at night even though it's centrally located. Spots and Orio (her dog and cat) are endless fun as well. Thanks Lara!
Lara was very friendly and her apartment was lovely and clean. Her pets are very sweet, too!
Lovely home with excellent space and facilities. Lara was very welcoming and hospitable.
