About this listing

I DO book for more than 30 day, but you must talk to me first.
Lovely clean and comfortable 1 BR 1 Ba with king and individual beds, potable water, everything you need on your vacation. Fully equipped, good WiFi. Near bus. 8 mins to Centro Historico, 5 mins to Fabrica La Aurora art studios and galleries. Walking to Centro is about 20-30 minutes.

The space

Very well appointed and fully equipped one bedroom apartment, with outdoor dining area as well as indoor. WiFi, DVD and TV, cable.
There is a main house, and two one bedroom apartments in this compound. This is a smoke free environment, but outside is okay.

There's usually other guests within this three home oasis to share information with, plus I am happy to help get you oriented when you first get here, if I'm in town.

Included: use of shared laundry machines, rules and times posted in laundry room, gas and electricity, safe tap water, and WiFi. Weekly cleaner is scheduled for you and only costs you $250 pesos, (abt $15usd). Cleaner is not optional. We pay the weekly gardener.

This apartment has a king bed and an individual sized day-bed sofa in the living room. Sleeps 2 comfortably... We've gathered hand loomed Mexican fabrics for the bedspreads and coupled that with good quality, all cotton, US linens. Beautiful Mexican tiles, ceiling fans, high quality cabinetry, fuse into a colorful, charming quiet elegance, yet is casual and comfortable.

The kitchen is fully equipped, modern and clean. Linens, dishes, cookware, microwave, blender, toaster, a way to make coffee, are all included. There is a walk-in closet in the bedroom. The property was built in late 2008, so it is modern with antique and homey touches, and Mexican charm.

We are located in Colonia Santa Cecilia, which is a relatively level 20- 30 min. walk or 8 minute bus ride to Centro (just about a mile). The bus stops a block away and runs every 10-15 minutes M-F and a bit less frequently on weekends/holidays. Taxis are frequent and inexpensive. It's a good location to reach paths used by bicyclists and hikers.

There is a basketball court where Zumba is held, about 2.5 blocks away. There are outdoor produce markets on Monday and Saturday within 6 blocks. There are small stores on every street. There's a place selling fresh roasted chickens about 2 blocks away.

There are many art and language classes to choose from in SMA, and a plethora of cultural events! Semana Santa (Holy Week) at Easter time is the biggest celebration of the year. There are nearby hot springs, and many spas, fabulous restaurants, equally fabulous street tacos, wandering minstrels, mariachi (URL HIDDEN) is too varied to describe. Many people come for a visit and end up buying or renting a house to move to!

Please note, there is no smoking allowed inside, but outside on your terrace is fine.

Guest access

There is a patio (with table &chairs just for you), and a shared laundry. This is a 3 home oasis, so you all share the front entrance, then have your own private home. You can be on your own entirely, or get to know your neighbors for a community feel.

There's room for a couple of bicycles, if you are bringing yours. There is undeveloped country right behind the house, so bring your birding glasses!

Other things to note

We're happy to provide enough paper products and shampoo for your first few days.

This sweet little casita is a real gem. Absolutely lovely with a stunning courtyard. Everyone here has been wonderful: the maid, Paty; the upstairs neighbor; and of course, Sharyn herself, who even left me wine and bread and cheese for my arrival. I definitely plan on returning!

Thank you Kimberly. I'm proud that at least some of your next novel is being written in my casita. You are a lovely presence here, and always welcome back!

The unit is well equipped, and has a nice patio. Wifi is flaky at times.

Response from Sharyn:
I'll see if I can do something about that wifi. We don't like flaky wifi!

Beautiful room, reminds me of Van Goghs bedroom! The most amazing artistic retreat in the heart of real Mexico.

Sharyn went out of her way to help the Uber driver find the place. I had a lovely stay and did not want to leave. The home was cozy and comfortable. Sharyn even brought toys for my 1 year old daughter to play with. It is just outside of the city in a quiet neighborhood but only a mile from downtown San Miguel. I would highly recommend staying here.

Sharyn was a wonderful host, and helped by leaving a few basic foodstuffs in the kitchen to make the beginning of our stay that much more easier. Our casita was very comfortable, and there were fun travelers in the other units that made our stay that much more enjoyable. While there's so much to do in San Miguel, we always enjoyed our downtime at the Hideaway.

Loved location. Not too far from centro. Great if want to be outside of centro but close access. Easy catching bus or taxi into centro. The return not so easy. Must catch blue and white bus that says San Luis del Rey. Lots of blue and white busses pass by but not to Colonia Santa Cecilia (san luis del rey direction) where place is located. Area is typical rural looking for Mexico. Do not be intimidated once you enter behind the walls it feels safe and secure. And beautiful! Outside walls was safe and secure too. Used Uber alot. But Uber new in SMA 1 sometimes no driver available or 2x surge in price. Taxis tended to charge $40-$50 pesos to return to house. Accomodations are as shown in photos. Hot water excellent! Bathroom spacious! Bed comfy. Washer and dryer in room in courtyard, although a bit noisy but just close windows. Apartment ground floor. Sharyn helpful and friendly! Internet not always consistent. Was able to watch netflix movies. But had to deal with intermittent loading issues. And sending videos took awhile in . worked well. I use Chromecast when I travel. TV not an updated model. Older TV so unable to use chromecast. Mosquito's! Keep doors closed and all is good!!! The windows were awesome when closed blocked outside noises. Roosters in the morning...if light sleeper might wake you. I slept through sister who wakes up early told me about it. Some dog barking noticed. Nothing excessive to me. Don Chilly Willy on street going into Centro after bridge(la fabrica aurora/same street as Dana). Great Pastor tacos!! 7pm to midnight Thurs, Friday and Saturday only. Try their pineapple/onion/jalepeno sauce with taco...Que rico!!! Cheap price too!! I recommend Sharyns place...she has other rentals on property. The bigger home is gorgeous. The other we did not see the inside of. Sharyn is looking to sell.....Would be great investment for someone interested in living and renting in Mexico!!!

I received a very warm welcome to the casita after a long day in transit. I enjoyed the lovely, well-appointed, and peaceful home during my visit to San Miguel de Allende. I was very impressed by all the thoughtful attention to details in the set-up of "my home away from home". I admired all the gorgeous colorful decorations and the lush garden. I felt very fortunate to have had such a wonderful space to stay in while in San Miguel. Thank you.

Response from Sharyn:
Hi Sarah, Thank you for a lovely review. I see that you wish something was written about a mid-week cleaning, in the booklet I provide in the apartment. In the listing itself, I say that a cleaner will come about one week after you arrive. I hope that's when she did come? Everyone arrives on different days, so there is no set day for the cleaner, except to say that it will be about a week from your arrival. I will take your suggestion, and make a note of it in the information booklet. Thank you so much for coming to SMA and for using my apartment!

I retired to Mexico from California with a desire to re-connect to creativity and fun and adventure. It has not disappointed me! Inspiration is everywhere. I feel so fortunate to live in a thriving artist colony. I had no idea how culturally diverse and wonderful Mexico is. Come for a visit, and you just may stay forever for the lifestyle!

I have a son, a daughter, and 3 wonderful grandchildren still in California and New Mexico.
