About this listing
Don't let my low prices fool you. Minutes to Centro! Lovely fully equipped WHOLE CHARMING APARTMENT. Cared for, Clean, Comfortable, and yours for the price of a mere room. I've decided to put the month of Sept on special for only $400!
Welcome to my beautiful and comfortable apartment, which has potable tap water, good water pressure, all the linens, pots and pans, the usual appliances one needs, outside dining space (and inside too). You can book for much longer, but anything over 30 days must be through me.
Get a whole apartment for one or two people for the price of a hostel, or just a bedroom in someone's house. There's usually other guests within this three home oasis to share information with. This is truly the best value I know of in San Miguel. Don't be fooled by the price. This is below most other prices in San Miguel, but it is VERY nice, and clean and
It is a long trip for most, and we want you to be immediately welcome and comfortable. Enjoy your first breakfast and snacks on us, (except during arrivals August 30-Sept 10, as I will be out of town), as well as enough paper supplies to last your first few days. There will be a map and information awaiting you, to help get you started and some breakfast and snack foods and beverage.
Included: use of shared laundry machines, 9-9pm only...gas and electricity, safe tap water, and WiFi. Weekly cleaner is scheduled for you and only costs you $60 pesos per hour, about $4usd. We pay the weekly gardener.
This apartment has a king bed and an individual sized day-bed sofa in the living room. Sleeps 3 comfortably... We've gathered hand loomed Mexican fabrics for the bedspreads and coupled that with good quality, all cotton, US linens. Beautiful Mexican tiles, ceiling fans, high quality cabinetry, fuse into a colorful, charming quiet elegance, yet is casual and comfortable.
The kitchen is fully equipped, modern and clean. Linens, dishes, cookware, microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker, are all included. There is a walk-in closet in the bedroom. The property was built in late 2008, so it is modern with antique and homey touches, and Mexican charm.
We are located in Colonia Santa Cecilia, which is a level 20- 25 min. walk or 8 minute bus ride to the center of town, (just about a mile). The bus stops half a block away and runs every 10-15 minutes M-F and a bit less frequently on weekends. Taxis are frequent and inexpensive. It's a good location to reach paths used by bicyclists and hikers.
There is a basketball court where Zumba is held, and a children's playground about 2.5 blocks away. There are outdoor produce markets on Monday and Saturday within 6 blocks. There are small stores on every street. And terrific hamburgers and pizza can be gotten at the pizza restaurant 2 blocks away...tell them what you like on it or it is very funny, what they will add...(hotdog).
There are many art and language classes to choose from in SMA, and a plethora of cultural events! Samana Santa at Easter time is the biggest celebration of the year. There are nearby hot springs, and many spas, fabulous restaurants, equally fabulous street tacos, wandering minstrels, mariachi bands...it is too varied to describe. Many people come for a visit and end up buying or renting a house to move to!
Please note, there is no smoking allowed inside, but outside on your terrace is fine. If your stay is 9 days or less, you may use our laundry soap for your laundry.
There is a patio (with table &chairs just for you), and a shared laundry. This is a 3 home oasis, so you all share the front entrance, then have your own private homes built around the courtyard and large old Mesquite tree. You can be on your own entirely, or get to know your neighbors for a community feel.
There's room for a couple of bicycles, if you are bringing yours. There is undeveloped country right behind the house, so bring your birding glasses!
Interaction with Guests
You will be greeted upon your arrival...please arrive during daylight hours, between 1pm and 8pm if possible, or talk to me so we can discuss your options. Departures by 10 am unless I have agreed to a later time...don't be shy to ask, it might be fine. I am happy to walk you around San Miguel to help orient you, unless I am traveling at the time you are here. You can email or call me for information as well, and if I am by chance traveling when you visit SMA, there will be another person who will take my place, if not to walk with you, at least to give you a nice orientation, tell you how to hop on a bus or taxi, or to walk into the historic center.
Rated the number one destination in the world by Conde Nast Magazine in 2013! This "World Heritage" colonial city is the seat of Mexican independence. There are marvelous festivals all year long, indigenous as well as modern. Most years finds film, flamenco, jazz, Cuban, classical, etc festivals. All have at least part of the celebration free of charge...the film festival is all free, and is international.
I hope you will go to you tube and search for some of the wonderful vimeos on this sweet town, so you can see it for yourself. I cannot show them here, they will be blocked.
The historic town is charming, cobbled and friendly! There are hot springs and organic farms surrounding San Miguel. The restaurants are marvelous, and you can find lots to do by day and by night.
Your immediate neighborhood, or "colonia" is called Santa Cecilia. It is a typical, original Mexican neighborhood with little stores, eateries, open-air Monday and Saturday markets, etc.
The bus is half a block away, costs 5 pesos, and takes about 8 minutes to get into the center. Taxis are about $3-3.50.
It is a pleasant, flat walk into town, one mile to Centro Historico, and the main road has just been completely re paved, with a broad smooth walkway...no more cobbles on this road or walkway!
Other Things to Note
You may book here on airbnb for up to 30 days...if you want to stay longer, that's more than great!! but you must make those arrangements with me directly. Rent and security deposit of $150 for the time booked after your initial res, come to me directly.
Public transport is very close at hand, for the one mile 7 minute ride into the Center. It takes about 20-30 mins for most walkers, depending on your pace and ability, of course. Taxis pass on the same road as buses, and will cost about $40 pesos during the day.
You may have me book the cleaner for as many days a week as you like, just tell me ahead of time. You've already paid for the cleaning when you leave, but for any other cleanings, you will pay about $4 usd, 60 pesos per hour.
There is garbage pick up at your door at least once and sometimes twice a week. Listen for the sharp clang clang of metal on metal, and go out to the street to dispense your rubbish like they do it in Mexico! It's an adventure! No smoking indoors, outside is okay. No loud parties. We are a mature, quiet, community. No pets. Use your own laundry products after one load on me. Use laundry machines from 9-9 only. No electric heaters, and conservative use of gas and electricity...Thank you!
We ask our guests to use appliances and furnishings as gently as possible.
You may purchase bottled water at the door when it is being delivered...about $2 for a very large bottle. Save the bottles to trade for full ones! We can usually provide you with a start.
We pride ourselves in providing you with a clean, safe and serene environment, and ask that you do what you can to help us maintain it. Thank you so much!
I loved this place. Sharyn was a great hostess and went above and beyond by giving me a tour of part of SMA. I loved the space and would stay there a gain in a heart beat!
This little house is charming. It is clear that people have worked to include endearing decoration, and most of the things a traveller may need, such as a well-equiped kitchen, an umbrella, cable TV, blankets, etc.
The location is north of Fabrica La Aurora, in a neighbourhood separate from downtown San Miguel. Being away from the downtown has the advantage of more peace at night, except for a few noisy dogs now and then. The street outside the house has not been paved, and the zone seems a bit rougher than other parts of San Miguel, but all that is transformed once you cross the entrance to the house and enter the common patio, where the placid environment is dominated by a tree that sounds like the ocean when the wind blows.
The place was thoroughly clean when I arrived, and Sharyn was always eager to help. The neighbours were friendly too. A very enjoyable place.
Hi Sergio, thank you for your thoughtful review. You must be a writer, it's so well written.
I usually don't take last minute reservations, but that is why there was not a fresh bar of soap. I wanted to accommodate you, but had a schedule that didn't have time to get there before you did. And there are lots of towels! I don't know if you looked in the bathroom cabinet...if they weren't there, the cleaner must have left them in the dryer! so sorry if that is the case.
We loved staying at Sharyn's place in San Miguel de Allende. Sharyn is a kind and generous host. She warmly greeted us when we arrived and drove us around the city to help us get oriented and buy a few things for the house. She appropriately checked in with us over the time of our stay and was always friendly and helpful. The apartment is exactly as described and was clean and lovely. It is part of a two casita (apartment) and one larger casa complex, and looks out onto a lovely inner shared courtyard/patio. It feels private and is. It's perfect for two people. The kitchen has pretty much everything we needed to do our cooking at home. We love how Sharyn decorates the place--she's got great taste! The residence itself is located just northeast of the city in a working class neighborhood that's in process of what appears to be stalled development. There are lots of unfinished abandoned cinderblock buildings amidst mostly-completed lived in houses. We didn't mind it (Sharyn's place is beautiful both inside and out) and appreciated that mostly Mexicans (very friendly) and not expats lived around us. We attended a language school (AHA) in SMA and walked to and from school everyday (about 3 miles roundtrip). However, public transportation is SUPER easy in SMA, and there's a bus stand two minutes walk from the house.
For runners and trail bicyclists, this area is perfect. We found lots of trails (a great alternative to running on cobblestones) and there's a huge, lovely field behind the house on the way to the city. We took the path through it everyday on our walks to and from school. We told Sharyn we'll write a more detailed description of good places to run from the house so she can keep it in her information folder in the casita.
We plan to return someday we loved it so much!
Sharyn's house is beautiful. The place is thoughtfully decorated in a Mexican style as if by an interior designer. All the fixtures and switches work well, as if new. It's an easy bus ride into town or walkable if desired. The place met and beat our expectations. Sharyn is also very friendly and helpful regarding information about town, where things are, and what to do. We would definitely stay here again.
We really enjoyed ourselves in this apartment some 3 kms north of San Miguel.
Sharyn was a most welcoming host and we felt at home quickly; a neighbor gave us access as we arrived later than we thought and we saw Sharyn during the next couple of days;the kitchen had items for our first days' breakfast and was really clean,as was the rest of the apartment.
The location was easy to find by car, from the map Sharyn had e-mailed us.
We have already mentioned the apartment to others,so they may both avoid the busyness of the town and also have the privacy that the apartment affords.
Everything was perfect! This was my first time to SMA and I will definitely be coming back!!

About the Host, Sharyn
I retired to Mexico from California with a desire to re-connect to creativity and fun and adventure. It has not disappointed me! Inspiration is everywhere. I feel so fortunate to live in a thriving artist colony. I had no idea how culturally diverse and wonderful Mexico is. Come for a visit, and you just may stay forever for the lifestyle!
I have a son and daughter and two wonderful grandchildren still living in the U.S. My kids grew up in Marin County and graduated from UC Berkeley.
