Very well appointed and fully equipped one bedroom apartment, with outdoor dining area as well as indoor. WiFi, DVD and TV.
There is a main house, and two one bedroom apartments.
There's usually other guests within this three home oasis to share information with, plus I am happy to help get you oriented when you first get here.
Included: use of shared laundry machines, 9-9pm only...gas and electricity, safe tap water, and WiFi. Weekly cleaner is scheduled for you and only costs you $60 pesos per hour, about $3.50usd. Cleaner is not optional. We pay the weekly gardener.
This apartment has a king bed and an individual sized day-bed sofa in the living room. Sleeps 3 comfortably... We've gathered hand loomed Mexican fabrics for the bedspreads and coupled that with good quality, all cotton, US linens. Beautiful Mexican tiles, ceiling fans, high quality cabinetry, fuse into a colorful, charming quiet elegance, yet is casual and comfortable.
The kitchen is fully equipped, modern and clean. Linens, dishes, cookware, microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker, are all included. There is a walk-in closet in the bedroom. The property was built in late 2008, so it is modern with antique and homey touches, and Mexican charm.
We are located in Colonia Santa Cecilia, which is a relatively level 20- 25 min. walk or 8 minute bus ride to Centro (just about a mile). The bus stops half a block away and runs every 10-15 minutes M-F and a bit less frequently on weekends. Taxis are frequent and inexpensive. It's a good location to reach paths used by bicyclists and hikers.
There is a basketball court where Zumba is held, and a playground about 2.5 blocks away. There are outdoor produce markets on Monday and Saturday within 6 blocks. There are small stores on every street. And terrific hamburgers and pizza can be gotten at the pizza restaurant 2 blocks away...tell them what you like on it or it is very funny, what they will add...(hotdog).
There are many art and language classes to choose from in SMA, and a plethora of cultural events! Samana Santa at Easter time is the biggest celebration of the year. There are nearby hot springs, and many spas, fabulous restaurants, equally fabulous street tacos, wandering minstrels, mariachi (URL HIDDEN) is too varied to describe. Many people come for a visit and end up buying or renting a house to move to!
Please note, there is no smoking allowed inside, but outside on your terrace is fine. If your stay is 9 days or less, you may use our laundry soap for your laundry.
There is a patio (with table &chairs just for you), and a shared laundry. This is a 3 home oasis, so you all share the front entrance, then have your own private homes built around the courtyard and large old Mesquite tree. You can be on your own entirely, or get to know your neighbors for a community feel.
There's room for a couple of bicycles, if you are bringing yours. There is undeveloped country right behind the house, so bring your birding glasses!
Interaction with Guests
You will be greeted upon your arrival...please arrive during daylight hours, between 3pm and 7pm if possible, or talk to me so we can discuss your options. Departures by 10 am unless I have agreed to a later time...don't be shy to ask, it might be fine. I may be traveling when you're here...but if I'm here, I am happy to drive or walk you around San Miguel to help orient you, if I am able. You can email or call me for information as well, and if I am by chance traveling when you visit SMA, there will be another person who will take my place, if not to walk with you, at least to give you a nice orientation, tell you how to hop on a bus or taxi, or to walk into the historic center.
Rated the number one destination in the world by Conde Nast Magazine in 2013! This "World Heritage" colonial city is the seat of Mexican independence. There are marvelous festivals all year long, indigenous as well as modern. Most years finds film, flamenco, jazz, Cuban, classical, etc festivals. All have at least part of the celebration free of charge...the film festival is all free, and is international.
I hope you will go to you tube and search for some of the wonderful videos on this sweet town, so you can see it for yourself. I cannot show them here, they will be blocked. If you search, you can find the link for the web cam of our plaza...the activities are on weekends and holidays.
The historic town is charming, cobbled and friendly! There are hot springs and organic farms surrounding San Miguel. The restaurants are marvelous, and you can find lots to do by day and by night.
Your immediate neighborhood, or "colonia" is called Santa Cecilia. It is a typical, original Mexican neighborhood with little stores, eateries, open-air Monday and Saturday markets, etc.
The bus is half a block away, costs 5 pesos, and takes about 8 minutes to get into the center. Taxis are about $3.50.
It is a pleasant, relatively flat walk into town, one mile to Centro Historico, and the main road has just been completely re-paved, with a broad smooth (URL HIDDEN) more cobbles on this road or walkway!
Other Things to Note
If you rent this, there is a possibility that I will need to occasionally show the whole property, as it is for sale.
Public transport is very close at hand, for the one mile 8 minute ride into the Center. It takes about 20-30 mins for most walkers, depending on your pace and ability, of course. Taxis pass on the same road as buses, and will cost about $45 pesos during the day.
You may have me book the cleaner for as many days a week as you like, just tell me ahead of time. You've already paid for the cleaning when you leave, but for any other cleanings, you will pay about $3.50 usd, 60 pesos per hour. If you don't make arrangements otherwise, I will schedule your first cleaning for a week after your arrival (not Sundays), and for each week there after. If you want a cleaner more than once a week, that is usually easy to arrange.
There is garbage pick up at your door at least once and sometimes twice a week. Listen for the sharp clang clang of metal on metal, and go out to the street to dispense your rubbish like they do it in Mexico. It's an adventure! You must be there to hand your trash to the garbage men. No smoking indoors, outside is okay. No loud parties. We are a mature, quiet, community. No pets. Use your own laundry products after one load on me. Use laundry machines from 9-9 only. No electric heaters, and conservative use of gas and electricity...I will give you advance notice if there is to be a showing of the property, and appreciate your cooperation in letting me show the apartment in good condition. Showings will not be before 10:30 am, nor after 6 pm.
One cleaning per week is non-negotiable, so please be sure that you let the cleaner in (or you can be out) by 10 am on your cleaning day. If 11 works better for you, you must let her know ahead of time. It is your responsibility to pay for a minimum of 3 hours $120 pesos on cleaning day. She will change your sheets and towels, launder them, wash your floor, clean the kitchen and bathroom.
There are often usable items in the cupboards and in the refrigerator, please help yourself, but don't take anything away with you that you didn't bring or buy...I put large bottles of shampoo, for-instance, in the bathroom, and you can use what you need, but not carry it off, please.
We ask our guests to use appliances and furnishings as gently as possible, so we can continue to offer a beautiful and comfortable environment for all guests.
You may purchase bottled water at the door when it is being delivered...about 25 pesos for a very large bottle. Save the bottles to trade for full ones! We can usually provide you with a start.
The tap water is potable, as we have a special system with ultra violet light and filters.
We pride ourselves in providing you with a clean, safe and serene environment, and ask that you do what you can to help us maintain it. Thank you so much!
I retired to Mexico from California with a desire to re-connect to creativity and fun and adventure. It has not disappointed me! Inspiration is everywhere. I feel so fortunate to live in a thriving artist colony. I had no idea how culturally diverse and wonderful Mexico is. Come for a visit, and you just may stay forever for the lifestyle!
I have a son and daughter and two wonderful grandchildren still living in the U.S. My kids grew up in Marin County and graduated from UC Berkeley.
