This green, colorful, clean and cozy house was built in 1923 and remodeled in 2004. As the homeowner, I've taken the liberty to paint each room a different color. The house has nice light, shade trees, a fenced back yard and deck with plum, fig and peach trees, a front porch for sitting with simple, beautiful landscaping.
Conveniently located in central east Austin, you are: 1 - 2 miles from the University of Texas, Downtown, Austin Convention Center, and you'll find yourself near local cafes and restaurants (Eastside, El Chile, Blue Dahlia, Eastside Pies, Bennu, Farmacie, Justine's and more). ~ 3 miles from Wheatsville Food Coop, Whole Foods, Central Market & Lady Bird Lake trail.
Just a 5 minute walk to Commuter Rail Station will take you downtown during the week in the ams and early pm with expanded service on weekends and during special events. You are ~ 5 miles from Zilker Park (ACL festival site).
You'll likely be staying in the large master bedroom which opens to a sweet patio/deck, nice light and private full bathroom. Bed is queen sized pillow top. Very private. If for some reason, the master bedroom is not available, a smaller room with floor level futon and adjacent bathroom will be made available. Ask if this is important to you.
Amenities: Dishwasher, gas stove, washer/dryer, HDTV, wifi/internet, Dish Satellite, filtered water, fully equipped kitchen.
A small dog named Diego will also be your friendly host.

Higher rates during SXSW, Austin City Limits and Formula One. 3 night minimum stays for ACL & Formula One and 4 night minimum for SXSW. Transportation to and from event locations may be available and prearranged for a small fee.
During ACL (possibly other dates) my 2013 Genuine Buddy Scooter 125cc may be available to rent for $30 a day. Just 5 miles from Zilker Park where ACL is held, you can drive, easily park in the neighborhood, possibly right at the festival grounds with a short walk. Two people can comfortably ride and helmets (Sm & med) will be provided. You're required to have a motorcycle license to drive anything 50cc or above. If you don't have insurance, we can discuss a deposit.
NOTE: When the street view comes up, it does not reveal the actual house area. There are several unoccupied homes in the neighborhood but 90% of the homes are occupied. This area of Austin is considered a "transitional" neighborhood with newer homes, remodels and older, run down homes. I take my dog, Diego, for long walks at night by myself. I feel safe (if the area is a concern to you). Many people have lived in this neighborhood their entire lives.
I highly recommend that you and your guests review the house guidelines before booking.
This property is approved for operation by the City of Austin for short term rentals. Lic #: OL 2014016513
(See Zen East-entire house listing for more about house/area).
In addition to above mentioned, guests will also have access to ipod/iphone speaker, space in the fridge and freezer for your own food, espresso or drip coffee maker.
Interaction with Guests
I should be available, upon your arrival, to answer any questions about the house, Austin, transportation options, restaurants, etc. Other than this, if an interesting conversation happens, fine, but not expected. At any time during your stay, you are welcome to ask/text questions. I may be spending time in the yard/garden, out with friends, walking my dog, spending time on the net or watching TV. This is your trip and time and I will respect your needs for quiet, privacy, contact and accommodate your needs as best I can. If I am out of town during your stay, you'll be figuring out more on your own but will have the house to enjoy by yourselves.
Close to downtown, UT, SoCo area, hike and bike trails. Residents are diverse and eclectic: artists, long time residents, students, professionals, families, single people, etc. I personally feel very safe, having lived here for 10 years, comfortable walking with or without my dog at all hours of the day.
Bus 6 & commuter Rail (MLK station) takes you downtown (1 - 3 miles depending on location), 5th St and Comal, and in the other direction as far as Leander, Tx. Close enough to bike downtown, to LBJ Lake hike and bike trail and walk to many cafes, restaurants in the area.
Other Things to Note
The art in this home reflects a more Eastern sentiment, including nature scenes. If small statues or photos of a Buddha make you feel uncomfortable, I am happy to move some but not all. Please consider this as my home may not be the right place for you and your guests.
In addition, if I am in town during your stay, you are welcome to schedule acupuncture or Asian style bodywork therapy. I am also happy to refer you to high quality professional massage therapists, chiropractors, yoga and Pilates studios nearby. Limited hours during weekends.
A brief profile for all guests along with photos is requested before your booking is accepted. Helpful info to share: nature of your visit, hours you keep, environment you're looking for.
Not allowed: loud parties, smoking (outdoors only), heavy drinking, illegal drugs, pets (small, well behaved may be considered with deposit), fires, including candles, indoors and outdoors.
I expect you to treat this house as if you were visiting your family or a friend and want to be invited back. If you break something, I request that you bring it to my attention as it may not be a big deal. If you don't know how to use an appliance, please contact me.
While guests are welcome to visit during your stay, parties or sleep overs are not permitted. You must be on the premise when guests are visiting and keys are to be shared with pre-approved guests only.
The house is located in a residential neighborhood so respect for neighbors is appreciated. 10 pm noise ordinance applies.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I had a great time staying with Paddy. She is a lovely person and a wonderful Airbnb host. I felt right at home and that's the best thing you can ask for with an Airbnb host. She communicated extremely well and helped me have a wonderful time in my visit to Austin.
I had a very pleasant stay in Austin and Paddy was quite friendly and helpful. She helped me find some places in the neighborhood (which I enjoyed staying in), and her place was like a relaxing oasis. I would definitely stay here again.
Paddy couldn't have been a more accommodating host. Her place was comfortable and near the rail line for quick access to downtown. All and all it was a great place to stay.
Paddy's home is charming and she is a very gracious host. She was kind enough to walk me around the neighborhood and make me feel at home.
At first I thought the location was a bit far from downtown, but there's a bus route that is a mere 2-blocks from her house and it takes all of 10-minutes to get to The Capital. Biking in the area is great too; it's about a 15-minute bike ride to/from Downtown. Paddy was kind enough to drive me to a bike rental shop.
The neighborhood is a bit eclectic with a mixture of Austin locals, artists and activists. I was fortunate to be there the same weekend as East Austin Studio Tours (EAST), which gave me a chance to explore that section of Austin. Paddy & I went to an outdoor performance that was a few blocks from her home, which was (website hidden): Diego is a cutie.
Paddy was very professional but also friendly. The house was lovely, the location was really perfect, and her dog Diego is very cute.
Very nice, took me to the co-op healthy grocery and gave rides when possible. Has a sweet little dog and a lovely home to share.

I am a long time resident of Austin. I earned a few degrees at UT many years ago. Some of my interests include gardening, meditation, film and film making, swing dance, biking, hiking and finding ways to leave a smaller footprint on the planet. I have a small dog, Diego, who is sweet, energetic and very friendly. If you don't care for dogs close up, this may not be the best option for you, UNLESS you are renting the entire house.
During the week, the two front rooms of the house are treatment rooms and I offer Oriental Medicine: acupuncture, herbs, nutrition and Asian bodywork therapy. One room is easily converted into a bedroom with a new double futon.
If you're interested in quality professional massage, acupuncture & or herbal therapy, it may be possible to arrange this "in house" with a little advance notice.
Austin offers many fun and unique things to do year round. Some events, like ACL, Formula One and SXSW, leave many folks with few places to stay as hotels tend to book up. You might prefer staying in a quiet, home environment and save a little money cooking some of your meals with more space, privacy and lounging space.
