It was a delight to stay here. Beautiful area. Clean room, hot water, nice ambience. Robert was very friendly and helpful. I arrived late at night and he came down to the street to meet me and make sure I got in ok. Wonderful to be able to do laundry and use the kitchen. I loved the view of El Misti from the terrace. I wish I could stay longer, and I would definitely choose to stay here again. Highly recommended.
Great place to stay. Felt totally welcomed and Robert is possibly the worlds nicest Peruvian.
Good WiFi and I was able to get a bunch of work done, while also exploring Arequipas sites and amazing food.
This place is in a great location for exploring downtown Arequipa on foot, in a safe neighborhood, with a nice roof for a drink or a book. It's clean and quaint, and while Gawain was out of town, his brother-in-law Robert lives there and was very nice and accommodating. Thumbs up, thank you!
We rented a pick up truck down the road to explore Colca Canyon, only for one (long) day. If you're interested in seeing it and comfortable driving a 4x4, it's amazing, but too vast for a day. I'd recommend finding a guide to do a 2 or 3 day camping trek. Maybe bring extra gas, as resources after Chivay are sparse!
We stayed for a few days passing through Arequipa to hike the Colca Canyon. We loved it so much we even asked to stay an extra day! Robert was incredibly helpful, generous, and always willing to share a laugh. The room was clean and spacious, and the apartment itself was very pleasant as the open design welcomed cool morning breezes. The best part though - the terrace. We could hang laundry, relax under the pergola, all while staring at the massive Chachani and Misti volcanoes looming overhead. Do not hesitate to stay. The location is perfect too, very close to the downtown historical district, and Gawain and Robert are very easy to communicate with. Thanks for the wonderful past few days!
The place in the House of Friendship, as Gawain's place in the Street Melgar 12 is called in Arequipa is indeed a wonderful place to stay, from all points of view: the central location in the city, the Robert's hospitality and amability, the house and its roof terrace with the beautiful view to the mountains. I had a wunderful stay over Christmas 2013 in this house, I really felt at home, and only can recommend to everybody opting for this place in Arequipa.

It's a cute place right in the heart of Arequipa. The nice rooms are centred around an open courtyard with lots of flowers. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a common room with a dining table. The terrace really is amazing and Roberto, who welcomed us was extremely friendly and helpful. For us it was the perfect place to spend a few days in this beautiful town.
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous.....It felt like home away from home. The combination of the other guests, along with Roberto's warm and open presence made us immediately fall in love with the place. The location is ideal and their place is located off the main drag, so it was nice a quiet. I feel you can't go wrong if you stay here
We could not wish for a more perfect place to stay in Arequipa. A very comfortable stay with plants in the courtyard, a good kitchen, use of washing machine, large bedroom and a rooftop where one can relax and see the sunset and the volcanoes. It is a short walk to the central plaza, bakery, supermarket and large local market. We immediately liked Roberto who is friendly and attentive. We would not hesitate to return.
Everything was great! Friendly hosts and great location.
We loved staying here. Robert was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome. We were lucky enough to meet his parents and sample some of their organic homegrown fruit. Location is great, just a short walk from the plaza, secure and quiet. The rooftop terrace is delightful and is regularly visited by a cheeky hummingbird who seems to know exactly when to flly off as you get your camera ready. Just make sure you ask about the little trick with the hot water.
