Suzanne's Teak Cottage was exactly what we were looking for on our Big Island visit. We arrived on Wednesday evening, and she pointed us to Uncle Robert's farmer's market down the road about 5-10 minutes. It was great! We didn't pack any soap, so we got a couple bars of locally made soaps, some veggies, and a dozen farm fresh eggs.
The outdoor shower was great! Just make sure if you are out, you get back to beat the bugs and have some light.
In the morning while I was making breakfast, the sun spotted geckos were hanging around, watching intently. If you turn your back on some fruit, they'll be there to sample, so I suggest cleaning up right away.
Suzanne provides two sets of snorkeling gear, and a couple beach towels. There's not a lot of sandy beaches on the South side, but there are some beautiful tide pools.
All in all, the Teak Cottage was exactly what I expected and hoped for. We've been referring to it as our "glamping" experience. It's a little rugged and a little luxurious. The kitchen provides the tools you need to make meals, the bed was so comfortable, and the water was always hot for a shower. Everything we needed after exploring the different parts of the Big Island.
We are having a beautiful and vibrant spring here, rain at night, sunny all day, fragrant flowers in bloom and fruit on the trees. Melissa stayed in contact with me the entire time she was here and said she was having a great time. If she had told me she was having any problems with bugs outdoors instead of writing the complaint in a review, I would have been happy to have the area treated promptly. Communication is key, most vacation rental owners are happy to do what it takes to ensure their guests are having a great vacation!
The cottage was extremely lavish, well-equipped, and comfortable. The interior design is an astounding work of art with a cooling ambiance. Enveloped by trees, we loved the seclusion as well as the closeness with nature that the cottage provided. It allowed us to take in and really appreciate the soothing climate. Additionally, there was an abundance of towels and toiletries provided.
The free snorkeling gear usage was a big plus for convenience! There are great snorkeling and swimming areas so close-by.
Suzanne is a lovely person and generously accommodating host. We didn't have any issues or needs during our stay but if we did, she'd definitely be more than willing to provide. She is extremely kind and will give you comprehensive recommendations for activities if you need them.
Suzanne was very welcoming, explaining the accomodations, the surroundings and the local sites. The cottage and grounds were as described. We loved the Bali designed cottage which Suzanne ordered as a kit house from Bali and with special changes had built herself. The grounds were beautiful.
What a lovely cottage. So private and truly peaceful. Sounds of the coqui frogs to fall asleep to and birds to wake up to. Glorious jungle setting. We loved the outdoor shower and screened in kitchen. It's definitely remote from the busy beaches and resorts but that's what we wanted. Beautiful.
Suzanne is a lovely person and she'll even find glue for you to fix your flip flop. :)
Suzanne is an excellent host and her cottage is a gem in paradise. We arrived at night and found the cottage to be very inviting and comfortable. We woke up in the morning in paradise. Everything was beautiful and green, birds singing. The outdoor shower is a fantastic experience. The internet was out while we were there but Suzanne was very generous and let us use hers whenever we needed. There is also a little café down the road that has internet and very good healthy sandwiches including vegan options and vegan ice cream. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and Suzanne gave us a tour of the garden and showed us the green edibles and fruits growing. If you’re going to be cooking ask Suzanne for a garden tour, we enjoyed adding the greens to our meals. She also gave fantastic recommendations for things to do in the area. We would be happy to stay here again the next time we are in Hawaii.
Our trip to The Big Island of Hawaii was our first experience with Airbnb and we are very satisfied. Suzanne was very helpful about places to visit while in the area. The cottage was as exactly as represented online. Very cozy nestled in a jungle atmosphere with beautiful trees and flowering plants. The outside shower was one of our highlights. It was convenient to beaches and sightseeing. We highly recommend the cottage and Airbnb to anyone anticipating using this service.
I've worked in the hospitality industry serving guests with aloha for the last 25 years. I also enjoy gardening and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Some guests tell me the grounds look like a tropical botanical park. Hosting a vacation rental gives me the opportunity to combine my talents in creating rewarding and rich experiences for my guests and myself.
My objective in building the cottage was to create an ambience of old Hawaii, with a sense of timelessness for ultimate relaxation and peace.
