This cottage is the perfect escape from the rest of the world. It's so peaceful. I woke up to the sounds of the many birds on the island and loved every minute of it. There are bugs and geckos, but it's the jungle. This is the perfect place to stay for some R&R. Pahoa has some wonderful restaurants, we tried Pele's kitchen nearby and it was superb as well! Suzanne was wonderful and attentive! I couldn't have asked for better.
Suzanne is truly a super host and prepared everything you need for Hawaii travel, fluffy beach towels, aloe gel, bug repellent spray and more. She also has a few sets of snorkeling gears for the guests. We enjoyed every moment at the cottage and regretted not spending longer time. The cottage has a sound structure with beautiful dark wood and bamboo details. There's almost something magical about the outdoor shower! Making breakfast in the kitchen with the view of lush fruit trees and tropical flowers is one of my favorite memories in the Big Island. Friendly tiny geckos reside in it also help get rid of nasty mosquitos I let in accidentally. Hopefully, we'll make it back some time. Highly recommended!
We had a lovely time in this charming cottage. We were surrounded by lush jungle, succulent fruit trees, and blooming orchids. Suzanne greeted us when we arrived and gave us great advice on local spots to enjoy. She also gave us a tour of her garden -- we picked sweet fruit and nutritious greens to cook. Suzanne lives just across the street and was available if we needed anything. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well stocked. There were a lot of geckos that crawled around the walls but they were harmless and we just made sure not to keep any food out. If you want to check out this quiet, beautiful side of the island, definitely stay here.
Suzanne was an absolutely fantastic host. Her house is amazing, absolutely clean and the outdoor shower is great. The kitchen provided everything we needed and the location is perfect for exploring the south east of big Island. The garden is stunning with all the fruit trees, we will definitely come back some day when all of them they are ripe :)
Great experience at Suzanne's place. We loved the feeling of being immersed in nature
My husband and I just returned from four nights at Suzanne's teak cottage and we enjoyed the experience thoroughly. The cottage is beautifully furnished and Is surrounded by dozens of fruit and flowering trees. It's off the grid with no phone service but has wi-fi. You cook and bathe in rain water collected in a cistern; so great for your hair and skin. The cottage is run by solar energy. The evenings are the utmost in relaxation listening to the frogs and crickets outdoors and the bright evening stars. Do not miss Alahanui Park Hot Springs just 15 minutes on Route 137. Suzanne is a sweet person who wants to ensure that you enjoy your stay. You have complete privacy with the exception of island geckos which are harmless and added to the charm of this island adventure. This place holds some of our favorite memories of the big island. Don't miss the experience!!
The Balinese Teak Cottage was a beautiful place to stay--the setting is gorgeous, green and opulent. The house was equipped with all one needs to vacation. Suzanne was a gracious host--even caring for the laptop we inadvertently left behind until the following day when we retrieved it! We would happily return. Thanks, Suzanne
About the Host, Suzanne
I've worked in the hospitality industry serving guests with aloha for the last 25 years. I also enjoy gardening and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Some guests tell me the grounds look like a tropical botanical park. Hosting a vacation rental gives me the opportunity to combine my talents in creating rewarding and rich experiences for my guests and myself.
My objective in building the cottage was to create an ambience of old Hawaii, with a sense of timelessness for ultimate relaxation and peace.
