The Space

Stunning Asian-inspired jewel set in gorgeous Japanese gardens with pond. Sand dunes and ocean steps away with private access from quiet neighborhood, making this section of beach relatively deserted. Dunes hold heat and burn off summer fog so the Inglenook area is a sunbelt, yet only 10 min from Ft. Bragg. Custom furniture from local fine woodworkers, Bose surround sound, wi-fi, bamboo heated floors, fully equipped kitchen, glass block spa shower with impeccable craftsman details everywhere.
There is a 2 night minimum. All fees are included. Owner lives in main house on the property.
On-site massage available from licensed professional- a total treat.

Guest Access

The gardens and pond and the State Preserve sand dunes

Interaction with Guests

After initial orientation, not at all unless invited to.

The Neighborhood

It's a private lane with private access to the entire Ten Mile Beach Preserve. Very safe and although it feels rural, you can be in Ft Bragg in 10 minutes.

Getting around

No. You need a car or bike.

Other Things to Note

North of Fort Bragg feels much less congested but it's still close to town. The beaches from the cottage north to Westport and beyond never have many people. If you are looking for peaceful and serene, this is the place!

  • Our stay at the Zen Jewel was nothing short of magical! We loved the energy of the place and of Lindsay! Lindsay made our stay wonderful and helped us pick the best places to see, hike and eat at.
I highly recommend the Zen Jewel for anyone who wants to unwind, disconnect and see some of the most breathtaking nature that the US has to offer.
We will come back for sure!

  • Linday's place is beautiful, quiet, and clean. The house is filled with natural light and the main windows in the living room face towards a large private pond and garden. The kitchen is convenient, with a full size fridge, stove, sink, microwave, as well as a small oven. In spite of the natural light, the bedroom sliding doors are very good about keeping out light if you want to sleep in.

  • The Zen Jewel really is accurately named. Relaxing, private, quiet and impeccably setup. Our trip started with a kind greeting from the owner, Lindsay, who gave us a quick rundown of things and then left my wife and I to our short vacation retreat. The freestanding house looked even better in person. It was clean (we really are neat freaks) and had everything we needed to cook, hang out and just be... Frogs croaked, birds chirped, we walked on the amazing sand dunes down to the ocean and frankly didn't want to leave. A+, we'll be back.

  • Lindsay was so easy to communicate with, the whole process from start to end was smooth. She was a very sweet and kind host who we would love to see again!

  • The zen house is very well done, everything is high quality. A great place for a quiet, relaxing escape. The adjacent sand dunes are very interesting, too!

  • Lindsay is a great host. The place is amazing -- the attention to detail in the design of the building and how comfortable it is blew me away. Also, the dunes are a 5 minute walk away and you get the beach to yourself (seriously, looked for miles and saw no one...).
    Will definitely come back.

  • Lindsay has the most perfect place for us to stay. We shall be returning. Simplicity and tranquility best describe the cottage and surroundings. It is a sanctuary! Thank you, Lindsay.

  • Brief weekend trip to Mendocino and Lindsey's guest house, hospitality, and garden made it all a memorable experience. Thank you.

  • beautiful place -- it is definitely as pictured. lindsey is lovely and really liked the way she respected my privacy. not very comfortable though. no bedside table for book -- glasses or a glass of water. couch and chair are not comfortable -- though the outside seating space is. and for the money -- it would be nice to have basic condiments like coffee and tea and sugar or honey and salt and pepper to cook with. would have been too much to cook anything. lovely to look at -- and to experience the garden -- though amenities are missing.

    Response from Lindsay:

Actually Linda there is coffee, tea and condiments. Guess you just didn't see them. There are also bedside tables stowed in the closet for those who want them. Too bad you didn't ask.

  • Lindsay's Zen Jewel Sanctuary was exactly that. The house and property are the definition of tranquil and serene. My partner and I had high expectations when we booked it, and it exceeded them. We had minimal contact with Lindsay; we appreciated that she was very hands-off, but let us know she was available if we needed anything. The shower was amazing. Our only complaint is that the bed was very soft, and our backs prefer a firm mattress, so sleeping was a bit rough. Regardless, We hated to leave and would love to return soon. We highly recommend staying here.
