Out experience was very positive. We met maris daughter who was an extremely kind and helpful person. Would Definantly recommend or stay again. Thankyou so much
Myself and a friend recently stayed in Mari's house during our trip to visit NYC over the weekend. We arrived a little late after having some difficulty finding the house, but we were greeted by one of Mari's family members and shown to our room. The room was as described, and comfortable/quiet for the time we were there. Fresh bed sheets and towels etc were provided and the location was excellent - only a 20-25 minute bus ride from Manhattan (the bus stop is a 5 minute walk).
The only thing I would note is that the instructions on getting the bus aren't great. We were on the way back from Manhattan trying to find the house and got off at the wrong end of John F Kennedy Blvd. If you are getting this bus back, then stay on until 10th street and then the house is just a few blocks down from there.
Overall, a great experience and hassle free!
The host Mari wasn't there when we arrived, but her daughter greeted us after we knocked on the door and waited for a bit. She was very relaxed and kind, and "checked us in" quickly. The room was in an attached apartment at the back of the house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms that were being used by other guests. There was a VERY strong cat piss smell in the common areas. We were happy that they accepted pets, as we were traveling with two cats, but it seemed like previous guests had not been too clean with their pets? We were allowed to park in the small driveway the first night. However, when we returned home the second night there was no room due to the way the owner's cars had parked. We decided to park in an empty spot on the street and were shocked when we were hit with a $50 "non-resident" ticket. We were never warned about this!!! When I mentioned it to the host (who had cell issues and never answered the door, so I had to email her and wait for an often delayed response) she only lamented about how I should have parked in the driveway and how they normally charge $10 for this, so why didn't I do it? She also claimed that parking info was stated in the listing. It probably is, but it would have been nice if, after a 15 hour flight, she would have told us ALL of the parking rules when we asked about them. If we knew we would have gotten such a ticket, we would have tried a lot harder to get them to move their cars. No cash offer to offset this oversight was given. The room itself was fine. Nothing fancy, but the bed had clean sheets and that's what matters the most in a room to us. Regardless, we're still giving a low rating because of the ridiculously high parking ticket that could have been easily avoided.
Mari's place was a cute place to stay at! I didn't actually get to meet her but when I got there and called her she was very helpful and made sure we got into our place okay. Also, there was one night where my friends and I were almost stranded, so I called her in a panic and she tried her very best to help us get back home! An extremely nice sweet lady. As for staying at her place, the location wasn't bad, luckily for us we were able to park in her driveway but if you don't request a spot right away parking would be difficult. Only thing I have to say is that if you're a clean freak or picky with cleanliness then I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place. Unfortunately there weren't screens on all of the windows so there was a few bugs hanging around in the place. And since there are other roommates, if they use anytbing in the kitchen and don't clean after themselves, then expect to have ants as visitors. If that's something that does bother you then this may not be the place for you to stay. Meeting the other roommates was fun too!!!! But honestly, other than that I enjoyed it and the prices was great for it! Best part too is that there's a close by diner that delivers to the place so if you're feeling lazy and want breakfast, just place an order online and they'll deliver it right to your door! Pretty awsome!!! Thanks again Mari for letting us stay there and for being very helpful :) such a kind person!!!!
