54m2 apartment in a very charming red house in the heart of Reykjavík. Located 5 minutes walk from the city center and the main shopping street Laugarvegur. It is a very charming apartment in a quite neighborhood and close to the best restaurants in Reykjavik if you are a gourmand.
THE APARTMENT has 2 rooms. One bedroom with a large double bed and a small bed. In the living room there is a big sleeping couch where 2 people can sleep. I will provide both bedding and towels for each guest. The living room also has cable tv, free wifi and this is also where the kitchen is.
The kitchen has all necessary utensils for cooking and a bar in the middle where you can either eat or drink a glas of wine while your partner is cooking.
The bathroom has a shower, toilet and a heated towel rack for your convenience.
LOCATION is excellent with public transportation nearby and all the fun and interesting places to visit.
No smoking inside the house and take good care of everything like it is your own.
We had a really great stay at the Little Red House. The location is completely brilliant - it's set back from the road so really quiet, but a very short walk takes you straight to the shops and cafes in the centre of Reykjavik.
The house was lovely and warm which we really appreciated as it was so cold outside! Perfect size for two people with everything you could need, and a few things were left out for us which we really appreciated since a very delayed flight meant we didn't arrive until past 4am and were exhausted and hungry
Gerda is a brilliant host - was very communicative and helpful before the trip and always fast to responsd, and gave recommendations and even brought a spare pillow over during our stay. I completely recommend this place!
This place was so wonderful! Extremely close to everything, right in the heart of the city. We were easily able to walk everywhere we wanted to within minutes! Gerda was such a great host! She addressed all of our needs so quickly, and even sent her husband over to lend us extra towels and a hair dryer. There was coffee and such at the house, which was so great for the mornings. The house was so cozy and adorable, very comfortably fit 3 of us (adults). I would definitely stay here again!
Our stay at the Little Red House was nothing short of great. With a perfect location just northwest of the famed church, Hallgrímskirkja, it's pretty much minutes from anywhere you'd want to go in Reykjavik. It's just a block or two from a street with free parking, if you are looking to rent a car like we did.
The house itself is very cozy. Perfect amount of space for 2 people. Though it technically can sleep 4 (1 queen, 1 twin & a couch), I wouldn't recommend it. WiFi is solid & fast. The neighborhood is nearly silent, though there was one morning that we got woken up by the loud construction on the street.
Gerða was an excellent host, though we regret that we never actually met! Communication was prompt & we had no issues during our stay. If you like to rent from someone who leaves you to your own devices, look no further.
All in all, this is a perfect place to rent as your base camp for an Iceland adventure.
The little red house is perfect for a short trip away to Reykjavik. Gerða was very helpful with directions and very speedy with replying to our queries. We also had a few supplies to keep us going on our arrival which was very much appreciated.
The house is equipped with the basics you may need whilst on holiday and is was very warm and cozy and very peaceful.
The location is great for exploring the city, only five minutes from the bars and cafes.
My husband and I had a great stay at the little red house! It is the perfect size for two people and easy walking distance to downtown Reykjavik. Gerða was an excellent host and very responsive to all my questions. If we ever make it back to Iceland we will stay at the little red house! :)
My wife, 2 year old son and I stayed for two nights at the Little Red House in late December. Overall our experience was excellent, but with one important caveat which I will discuss below. The apartment was fantastic, very cozy and comfortable. When you looked outside and saw all the snow and lots of christmas lights in the dark, it felt *very* christmassy. We loved it! Location was superb, just a 5 minute walk from the main shopping streets, so you're really in the middle of everything, and exploring central Reykjavik around christmas is a lot of fun. Gerða gave us lots of helpful information before we arrived on where to find groceries, good value restaurants etc, and that was very helpful.
In terms of amenities, the apartment was well kitted out. It had a fast 4G wifi connection, and there's an Apple TV, so we were able to stream movies onto the TV from our iPhone. The kitchen is functional so you can do simple meals, although we ate out most of the time. Gerða left us some supplies (milk, rye bread, yoghurt) which was really helpful since we arrived very late. The bed was comfortable and big enough for all three of us. The hot water is super-hot and smells of sulphur (rotten eggs), which took some getting used to at first, but I believe this is normal for Iceland. Finally we got there in a hired 4WD car and were able to find cheap on-street parking right outside the apartment with no problem. (The ticket machine has instructions in English and accepts credit/debit cards.)
The one caveat I have is that the path leading to the apartment, which involves going down some small wooden steps, was *incredibly* slippery with ice. The same is true for the street (Óðinsgata) leading all the way up to the shopping street Skólavörðustígur. So you have to exercise caution, which is fair enough because this is Iceland in December. But with a small kid, the ice on the steps and the path becomes scary, and we were petrified of slipping whilst carrying him. So if you're visiting with a young family during this time of year, you should definitely keep this in mind - maybe bring some crampons! We're glad we brought our pushchair along, because it was much easier to walk up the icy street with our son in it (not least because it gave us some extra support too - even the locals were wobbling around everywhere). Gerða was away during our stay, but after we'd left, she suggested we should have iced the steps, and I'm sure that would have helped a bit.
Overall though, it was a really great place to stay on our first trip to Iceland. : )
The Little red house was the perfect stay for my trip to Iceland! It’s charming, nice, comfortable and warm (it was quite cold outside). Located in the middle of everything you might want to visit in Reykjavik, but very quiet though.
Gerða was a great host. She was flexible, when my arrival was later than expected, and provided me some breakfast because the shops were already closed :) Later she brought me an extra pillow, she was very fast in communication.
Thanks for everything, I had a great time in Iceland.
