You'll have the place all to yourself in this authentic apartment in an historic building in the heart of the city. Only blocks from Union Square, enjoy a quiet respite from your adventures in San Francisco.
The apartment is located at the back of the building on the 4th floor, overlooking a quiet courtyard. There is an old-school elevator typical of historic San Francisco buildings. Your experience will connect you viscerally with both the past and present city, and you can see what the life of a San Francisco resident is all about.
Wifi is available, and you can easily connect to the Apple TV from an iPad or iPhone to view your vacation photos and more!
There is a full kitchen for cooking, or many great restaurants are literally only steps from the front door. Enjoy nightlife of SF just around the corner!
Street parking in the area is very limited, but there are parking garages nearby for $20-25/day. The best option is to leave the car behind to explore the city. Five bus lines stop within a block of the apartment, only 3 blocks from the cable car, and BART and street cars are about 6-8 blocks away - and don't forget that a few taxi rides are a lot cheaper than renting a car! Also, there is a ZipCar rental lot just one block away - a really convenient and inexpensive option for an adventure to wine country, the beach, or just to drive over the world renowned Golden Gate Bridge.
The previous reviews say it all. Everything was great. I was somewhat worried about climbing for the bed, but it was no problem at all (more like a step up). Would recommend this place.
Phil was an excellent host - easy to get ahold of, responsive, and responsible.
The place was clean and orderly - exactly as advertised.
Great location, very nice surroundings.
This was a really convenient location in downtown San Fran. I stayed in Phil's apartment for 6 days while attending a conference and I was able to easily walk from the apartment to union square, moscone centre, SFMOMA, San Fran Opera House, and all of the great shopping downtown. It was also super easy to connect to transit or cable cars to head down to fisherman's wharf and Pier 39. There are lots of good restaurants in the area, and I felt relatively safe the whole time, even walking alone in the evening. The apartment was clean and perfect for my needs, it was quite quiet and I slept really well. It was also nice to have a little kitchen that I normally wouldn't have access to in a hotel, and there is a little grocery store right downstairs. Phil provided everything i needed, he met me at the apartment and gave me the run through, and he was always available via text if i had any questions. It was a great first airbnb experience and I completely recommend it for other travelers.
Nice location, Phil was very flexible on the check-in & check-out time!
The location was perfect! We're walkers and we could walk everywhere from Phil's apartment. However, we would recommend Phil's apartment, and it does have a quirky charm, only for those under 40. The bathroom needs significant repair and the loft bed was fine for us, but not for everyone. The building itself had a lot of character, but suffers from overall lack of maintenance especially in the lobby area.
Very central apartment just couple blocks from union square which made it very easy to navigate. Unit block has an elevator which made it great if you have a bit of luggage and unit is situated at back of the block so if you have noise concerns- it's all good here. Pretty quiet.
As Phil mentioned- bed can be a bit tricky but we managed just fine- was kinda fun.
Found a nice breakfast place just down the road which was handy and there are some grocers and places to eat nearby.
Made some use of the Apple TV which was cool. Shower was a little tricky to figure out at the start but once you got the hang of it was all good.
Check in was very easy as well as check out. Even though we never met Phil- he was very easy to contact throughout the process. Would Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place in SF.
My husband and I stayed at Phil's for just over a week. As I have seen mentioned, the foyer is slightly odd but the building itself has a lot of charm. Old elevator is very cool.
The apartment itself was exactly as photographed. It was clean, tidy and we enjoyed the Apple TV.
The bed was surprisingly comfortable although it was awkward to get in and out of the bed nook.
As for Phil, we never met him but he was helpful when we had queries.
Sutter st was a good location for our trip as we wanted to be close to the downtown area. It was easy to travel on foot without much bother. The neighbourhood seemed safe although it was obvious when you entered the Tenderloin (maybe 4 big blocks away).
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thanks Phil!
My partner and I enjoyed three nights at Phil's amazing apartment in mid-August. You may be startled by the feel of the apartment building in the foyer and stairs/elevator at first as it's aged but the apartment itself is spacious and clean. There was plenty of information about the local area (maps, tours, etc) which was great to have on hand. We were glad to meet Phil when we arrived who was happy to wait even though our flight was delayed for a couple of hours. The location was sensational and unbeatable. There is a general store right next door with alcohol, plus plenty of food - check out Bite ... AMAZING! The kitchen and bathroom were tired and a bit run down but nothing out of the ordinary for an older property and we were not too fazed. Although the information provided by Phil says there are animals in the building we did not realise this meant there had been animals in Phil's apartment as the listing says no animals allowed. When we arrived we noticed Phil had a small dog. I have allergies but thankfully was not affected by the small amount of dog hair on the couch and floor. Despite this, we would happily return to the apartment. Phil was a gracious host and was happy to look after our bags after check-out as we had a late flight. We will be back!
Phil was a great host, very accommodating and eager to share his love of the city. In reading the other reviews and corresponding with him before our arrival, we had high hopes for our 5 night San Fran stay. And while we loved the charm and location of his building, we were a little turned off by the cleanliness of Phil's bachelor pad, or lack thereof. It was certainly tidy and the sheets/towels were clean, but the whole flat, especially the bathroom, could have used a good deep cleaning. The building is understandably old and this is clearly a high turnover rental, but it was pretty obvious that the cleaning fee didn't get used to pay for a proper cleaning prior to our stay. Phil was very responsive and apologetic when we mentioned our concerns, he refunded the cleaning fee and even came by with a new shower curtain and tried to clean the bathroom for us himself. He explained that he was in need of a new cleaning person, and we hope he can get someone qualified in there between visitors to give it the cleaning it needs, because his place really is perfect for your romantic getaway or your business trip. I easily walked to and from the financial district every day for my conference, and there are endless options for eating, shopping, and entertainment within walking distance. There is a reasonably priced parking garage nearby ($25/24hrs), but we agree with Phil that you're better off leaving the car at home and using public transportation (there's a bus stop right on the corner). Despite our rather lackluster experience, we would still recommend Phil's place. We're sure you will love the charm and location of the flat, and Phil will do everything he can to help you enjoy your stay.
Phil was a great host, very friendly and everything worked absolutely fine. Four instead of five stars just because the bathroom needs some update - it was absolutely ok and clean, but the rest of the apartment is brilliant, so maybe this is a little below average. However, I just can recommend Phil`s apartement, nice place to stay in a perfect neighborhood.
