A large and comfortable bedroom (200 sq ft/19 sq m) with a small private terrace. The apartment is in a very well-kept and traditional Back Bay townhouse with a lovely view of the Charles River. Convenient to subway and bus lines.
Room (200 sq ft/ 19 sq. meters) with a private entrance and small terrace in my apartment in the Back Bay on Beacon Street. Furnished with a queen size bed, a desk, chair, small bureau . Pillows, bed linen, towels and continental breakfast are provided.
The apartment itself is a first floor, 1125 sq. ft duplex down and has a nice view of the Charles River. There are 1 1/2 baths and the common areas (kitchen, living room, dining area, full bath) are shared. There is a lot of art on the walls, thousands of books, cd's, lp's and dvd's (in case one gets bored with Boston).
Lovely neighborhood, great walking on the Esplanade along the Charles River and beautiful restaurants and boutiques on Newbury Street.
Easy access to subway to downtown, you can walk to MIT in 10 minutes over the Mass Ave bridge and the No.1 bus is one block away and goes directly to Harvard Square (about 20 minutes).
The apartment public areas are available to enjoy during your stay. Guests may cook but have to clean up.
Interaction with Guests
I work during the day and am often out at night but am always glad to share some conversation and a glass of wine if I am there. I am present as I also live in the house.
This is the quintessential Boston neighborhood. Well, kept, tree-lined streets give you a sense of what it must have been like when these houses were all single family dwellings. There are great restaurants, cultural institutions and shopping close by and transportation via MTA trains and buses, cabs and Uber make this a really convenient place to live
#1 bus goes directly to MIT and Harvard and is 1/2 block away. Green Line stop is 4 blocks away and direct shuttle bus to airport is 4 blocks away.
Other Things to Note
Please note there are two cats - they are short hairs so not a lot of fur flying around but they are friendly and those who suffer from allergies should be aware.
1. It would not be possible to have large numbers of people over.
2. If you don't want the cats in the room you will have to keep an eye on them. They are very sneaky.
3. Barbecue is available in the summer.
4. For security reasons, please make sure that outer doors are firmly shut when entering and leaving building.
5. English muffins, bagels, cream cheese, butter, jams, fruit, yogurt, milk and hard boiled eggs are in the fridge for breakfast. Selection of cereals and breakfast bars.
James is kind, friendly and an all around great host. He makes a real effort to make you feel comfortable. The location in back bay is great--walking distance to fenway, hynes convention center and many great bars and restaurants. I definitely recommend staying here.
James was friendly and flexible. His apartment was very well located. But, we are not cats fans so his cats were just a bit too much present.
Great location - very nice area close to Charles River. James is absolutely a great host! Great conversation, helped in all possible ways to makes feel confortable. Truly a nice find.
I was in Boston for three days for a conference, on the other side of the Charles river from James' apartment. Outside of sleeping, I didn't spend much time in the apartment. The description of the accommodation is accurate. There's lots of closet space and lots of free clothes hangers. The room is tidy - if somewhat dusty in corners - and comfortable. I slept well. I found the bureau handy for writing a few emails at night, but consider asking about a more sturdy chair if you're planning to use it for any significant amount of time.
James is a friendly and authenticate raconteur. He knows Boston well, and was helpful about getting me oriented, not to mention that he leant me his Hubway pass (bike sharing) for the duration my stay. He is concerned that his guests should be comfortable.
I am a repeat visitor. Love the location, room clean, and host is charming.
Great location, great host. James was inviting and his home is in the best location possible. Enjoyed chatting with him and felt at home.
Very nice apartment on Beacon Street - right in the heart of old yet trendy Boston! The guest bedroom is in the basement with a couple of big windows looking at the street running along River Charles.
A former professional opera singer I now live in Boston and work for a large hospital as an administrator. I like good food, good wine and good conversation (not necessarily in that order). Can't live without coffee in the morning or good music on the stereo. Loved watching Smash and almost any British TV comedy or drama (I'm a sucker for an English or Scottish accent).
