Seven enchanting acres. One inviting getaway. Crawley House blends natural beauty with sophisticated style: you’ll have all the comforts of a high-end hotel while still enjoying back-to-nature bliss, dense woodlands for private hikes, a flowing stream, and some of the starriest skies you’ve ever seen. With perks like a movie theatre and mountain views, it’ll be hard to leave home, but you’re perfectly positioned for exploring the state’s best parks along with close proximity to Asheville.

The space
Add the Crawley House to your wishlist by clicking the ♥ in upper-right hand corner.

With acres to explore plus chic design and all the amenities anyone could hope to find in a mountain getaway, Crawley House has something to delight each and every guest. Find total relaxation in whatever form suits you: whether it’s an afternoon wandering the forest or an evening sipping a local red by the fire.

Vaulted ceilings, wood accents and a gas fireplace create the feeling of a modern mountain lodge in the living area. Curl up here with a book and gaze at the greenery while the sun slants in, then gather the group for pancake breakfasts in a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen. A sunroom just off the kitchen offers space to linger over your coffee.

Outdoor fun is found in abundance here. Face off in cornhole or explore the surrounding forest and follow the sound of running water to the stream. Birdsong is best enjoyed on the porch swing, and local beers are best clinked around the firepit with cozy Adirondack chairs. At night, the songbirds yield the stage to chirping crickets and the mountain views give way to a dazzling display of starlight.

At Crawley House, stormy weather is no reason for dampened spirits. Grab a board game from the full collection or show off your skills on the ping-pong table. Or stream your favorite flick in the dedicated movie theatre room, complete with a 100-inch screen, enough seating for a party of 8 and complimentary bags of popcorn
When it’s time to say goodnight, head to your choice of four queen-size bedrooms, each with serene color schemes and plenty of room to unpack. Three bathrooms mean everyone can get ready at a leisurely pace. Choose the master suite and you’ll be treated to an opulent tub, perfect for soaking sore muscles after a day of exploring.

Crawley House is set back far from the road on a quiet residential street, offering the feeling of a private estate. But just down the road is Route 64, and a 10-minute drive brings you into the heart of downtown, where you’ll find three beloved breweries and plenty of options for local cuisine. If wines are more your style, hop on I-40 and taste test your way along the Catawba Wine Trail.

Within 25 minutes, you’ll find both Lake James and South Mountains State Parks, where you can opt for afternoons traversing the trails and discovering waterfalls or sunning on the banks of an Appalachian lake. Looking for even more to explore? Pisgah National Forest is just over an hour away.

Downtown Asheville is within an hour’s drive. Take a day trip to tour the historic Biltmore Mansion, explore the dining and brewery scenes, or catch any number of local festivals, celebrating everything from art and music to gems and mermaids.

Where you’ll be

Morganton, North Carolina, United States

The fun picturesque town of Morganton is located in Burke County, about 63 miles east of downtown Asheville. Its location along I-40 makes it very convenient to stop for the visit in the foothills. Little known fact: This area is the oldest known European inland settlement in the United States, with Spanish explorers settling in the village of Joara in 1567!

Morganton and Burke County are a nature's playground with hiking, biking, camping, fishing, lakes and waterfalls. Explore two of the best state parks in North Carolina: South Mountains and Lake James. Plus, Pisgah National Forest across the north side of the county includes Linville Gorge and the Blue Ridge Parkway. From the Parkway, take scenic NC 181 South ("The Snake") for 27 miles to Morganton, passing along the way the entrances to Table Rock (pic above), Hawksbill, Upper Creek Falls, Brown Mountain Lights and more! See listings below for much more info about each.

Your first stop should be the Burke County Visitor Center (110 E. Meeting Street) to get plenty of info on area attractions, events and dining.
