The train and/or bus will take you to the convention center, downtown, the airport and many other places in about 15-25 minutes. The bus stop is 2 1/2 blocks from my house. The drive to downtown is 10 minutes and 10-15 minutes to the airport. There is no airplane noise. There is street parking in front of the house. It is plentiful and free!
My house is 10-15minutes away from the airport, bus station and train station. I will provide transportation to and from the bus station, airport or train station if my schedule allows for a $10 fee each way.
You do not need to get my approval to rent the room. You may instant book. There is no need to inquire first if the room is available. Airbnb does not let you inquire about certain dates unless they are already available.
I will do everything I can to make your visit comfortable and pleasant. Also, I have a cat if allergies are an issue.
Guests will have access to the whole house and yard except for my bedroom and bathroom in the basement.
Interaction with Guests
I interact with my guests as much or as little they like. I am a fun loving, open minded 60 something and I love to have people in my home and brag about Portland. I am happy to help you find where you want to go. I am usually here in the mornings just hanging out in the kitchen (It is big) doing computer work and answering any questions you may have. I also give piano lessons in the afternoons. Some are in the home. You may come and go as you please when I am teaching.
This neighborhood is very safe with plenty of beautiful homes and gardens. There is plenty of street parking with no meters. There are families out at play and walking around. Close by are several brew pubs and many shops and restaurants all within walking distance. I am in the Beaumont neighborhood, close to the Hollywood district. Many places are within walking distance, with easy bus lines to the areas that aren't, like Mississippi, Alberta and Hawthorne to name a few.
There are 3 major bus lines within 2 blocks of the house. There is also a lite rail connection close by in Hollywood and on 60th Ave. The buses will take you anywhere you need to go in Portland in about 15 minutes. You can easily get to the Alberta Arts district, Hawthorne Street, Mississippi Ave, the Pearl and downtown; all within 15 -30 minutes on public transportation. You can look up tri met in Portland on the computer and it will plan any short or long trip you want to take.
Other Things to Note
I have a cat.
There will be a note on the dresser explaining the rules of the house when you are here. I cover all the bases right down to the compost bin. I am flexible on check in times if you need to get here earlier than the posted 1pm, as well as check out times if you need to leave your things here after the 11am time. I have 2 bikes that are pictured here that you may use free of charge. I have a cat that is indoors at nights and in the winter.
I would expect that guests and myself are quiet after 11pm and before 8am. That does not mean you must be home; only quiet to allow others to sleep.
It will be expected that if you rent the room, you are the only one sleeping in it. You may bring a guest in to show him/her your space, but not to stay for an extended period of time.
Careful use of utilities is appreciated; lights and fans turned off when not in use and no windows open in the wintertime.
Only eat for what is for breakfast and don't use it for any other meal.
In the winter, the storm door needs to be kept closed tightly.
I expect guests to clean up after themselves in the kitchen, including the coffee maker.
I just expect common courtesy, responsibility and kindness.
Also, there is no smoking in or within 25' of home outside. Thank you.
I felt welcome and at home even though Leigh was out of town. She left helpful and kind instructions and the accommodations were clean and comfortable and the neighborhood is safe and convenient.
Leigh is a warm and kind host. I felt like she went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable, but ultimately gave me my complete privacy. The neighborhood is lovely and very safe. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
This was my first Airbnb experience. I was a guest of Leigh for 3 nights in one of my favorite types of residential neighborhoods, An older neighborhood in Portland full of, of course, nice old houses. Leigh's house was built about 1929 I think. So, the neighborhood was a big, big plus to me for its throwback to the past and for the peacefulness of the area. Leigh is a wonderful and helpful host who put me at ease immediately. I was very happy with the bath and bedroom facilities and the kitchen was wide open for use. I could ramble more but perhaps, suffice it to say, I am sold on Airbnb and since I go to Portland periodically Leigh will have my business. BTW, will also say that in my twice-yearly trips to Portland I have always gone solo and, being frugal, I stayed at the least expensive Motel 6 in the area. Then just recently my son told me about Airbnb and I am so glad he did. I paid about exactly the price for three nights with Leigh that I had been paying Motel 6 and, of course, got tons and tons more for my money then staying in a motel room.
We enjoyed our second stay at Leigh's home and once again had the place to ourselves while she was away for Thanksgiving. This time we got to meet her and a couple of her young piano students the day before she left home.
Great place to stay in Portland in a neighborhood with lots of access to restaurants, natural food stores, and entertainment venues.
An all-around wonderful experience and I'll definitely be a repeat customer. The house is homey, warm and inviting, clean and user friendly, in a great location. The entire first floor is where the Airbnb guests are -- in two rental rooms that share a nice bathroom. Leigh's on the lower level but the first floor is also her living space, which she shares with the renters. It's a terrific arrangement. Leigh is a truly lovely person and I always looked forward to our morning kitchen conversations. Definitely recommend!
Leigh was very lovely and accommodating. The house is quite cute and cozy.
Leigh is an easy going person & helpful with information .
Her place is quite convenient to PDX yet very very quiet .
I had a long day with several airports and was rather spent by the time I got to Leigh's place .
After getting things sorted I laid down for a few minutes to rest the eyes . It was so quiet , I was out like a light and had a great long nite of sleep .
The only downside was that my musical talent is all appreciation . . . I lack any playing talent .
Alas I was unable to use the beautiful piano .

I am a single woman, who teaches piano for a living. I am fun loving, easy going and open minded. I love interacting with my guests and helping them when they want it. However, I will not intrude. When not teaching piano, I sing in choirs, do gardening and explore Portland. There are many neat neighborhoods and places to eat and drink here.
Occasionally I travel to visit family in Illinois, California and England.
If you come and stay here, I will be able to point you in the right direction of many different places to have fun in Portland. I have lived here for over 8 years and continue to find it fascinating. Before living here I lived in southern California for 13 years and before that in Wisconsin for 15 years. I am one of six kids and have 2 grown children of my own and 2 young granddaughters who are one of the lights of my life. I was born and raised in Evanston, IL and am a Midwesterner at heart.
