My house is 10-15minutes away from the airport, bus station and train station. I will provide transportation to and from the bus station, airport or train station if my schedule allows for a $10 fee each way.
You do not need to get my approval to rent the room. You may instant book. There is no need to inquire first if the room is available. Airbnb does not let you inquire about certain dates unless they are already available.

Interaction with Guests
I interact with my guests as much or as little they like. I am a fun loving, open minded 60 something and I love to have people in my home and brag about Portland. I am happy to help you find where you want to go. I am usually here in the mornings just hanging out in the kitchen (It is big) doing computer work and answering any questions you may have. I also give piano lessons in the afternoons. Some are in the home. You may come and go as you please when I am teaching.
This neighborhood is very safe with plenty of beautiful homes and gardens. There is plenty of street parking with no meters. There are families out at play and walking around. Close by are several brew pubs and many shops and restaurants all within walking distance. I am in the Beaumont neighborhood, close to the Hollywood district. Many places are within walking distance, with easy bus lines to the areas that aren't, like Mississippi, Alberta and Hawthorne to name a few.
There are 3 major bus lines within 2 blocks of the house. There is also a lite rail connection close by in Hollywood and on 60th Ave. The buses will take you anywhere you need to go in Portland in about 15 minutes. You can easily get to the Alberta Arts district, Hawthorne Street, Mississippi Ave, the Pearl and downtown; all within 15 -30 minutes on public transportation. You can look up tri met in Portland on the computer and it will plan any short or long trip you want to take.
Other Things to Note
I have a cat.
There will be a note on the dresser explaining the rules of the house when you are here. I cover all the bases right down to the compost bin. I am flexible on check in times if you need to get here earlier than the posted 1pm, as well as check out times if you need to leave your things here after the 11am time. I have 2 bikes that are pictured here that you may use free of charge. I have a cat that is indoors at nights and in the winter.
I would expect that guests and myself are quiet after 11pm and before 8am. That does not mean you must be home; only quiet to allow others to sleep.
It will be expected that if you rent the room, you are the only one sleeping in it. You may bring a guest in to show him/her your space, but not to stay for an extended period of time.
Careful use of utilities is appreciated; lights and fans turned off when not in use and no windows open in the wintertime.
Only eat for what is for breakfast and don't use it for any other meal.
In the winter, the storm door needs to be kept closed tightly.
I expect guests to clean up after themselves in the kitchen, including the coffee maker.
I just expect common courtesy, responsibility and kindness.
Also, there is no smoking in or within 25' of home outside. Thank you.
Leigh left clear instructions for my stay and was responsive to any questions I had. She is also very welcoming and fun to talk to. I felt right at home in her house!
The neighborhood is great and really safe. There is amble street parking if you have a car.
It's a very wonderful and comfortable experience to live in Mrs.Johnstone's home. Everything has been considered and well arranged which made me feel really at home. The room is 100% as described, clean and comfortable. The back yard is beautiful. Thank you warm-hearted Mrs.Leigh Johnstone.
I had a wonderful stay at Leigh's place in Portland. The house is close to public transportation, a grocery store, and some nice restaurants. I was on bike, and all of this was very convenient. The room was clean, and bed was comfortable, and things around the house were well-labeled and easy to find. Leigh has very clear guidelines for guests that are easy to follow. Would stay here again!
Our stay with Leigh was a great first experience with airbnb. The room was clean and just how described. The house was charming and in a lovely neighborhood. We took Lyft to and from downtown Portland at about 22$ per ride. There was one woman staying in the room next to us with whom we shared a bathroom, but we hardly ever saw her. There were no keys provided for us and the door was left open until everyone was in for the night, and the back door was left ajar most of the time for her cat to come and go. Though I did not feel uncomfortable with this, some might, so it is good information to have. All in all, our stay with Leigh was comfortable and homey.
It was my very first airbnb experience that turned to be wonderful! When I arrived in the evening everything was set perfectly for me. Leigh is very easy-going yet active person, as well as such a hard-worker ;)
The house is located in a quiet residential area but restaurants, cafe and supermarkets are close enough to get to by foot. If you got a big luggage, it may not be so easy to get to the house as you'd need to walk for a few blocks from the nearest bus stop. But no worries - Leigh can even offer you a pickup for a very reasonable price!
Leigh greeted us when we arrived and showed us around the house. She was very sweet and kind. There were directions on the door and house rules in our bedroom. She made us feel at home and was a great host.

About the Host, Leigh
I am a single woman, who teaches piano for a living. I am fun loving, easy going and open minded. I love interacting with my guests and helping them when they want it. However, I will not intrude. When not teaching piano, I sing in choirs, do gardening and explore Portland. There are many neat neighborhoods and places to eat and drink here.
Occasionally I travel to visit family in Illinois, California and England.
If you come and stay here, I will be able to point you in the right direction of many different places to have fun in Portland. I have lived here for over 8 years and continue to find it fascinating. Before living here I lived in southern California for 13 years and before that in Wisconsin for 15 years. I am one of six kids and have 2 grown children of my own and 2 young granddaughters who are one of the lights of my life. I was born and raised in Evanston, IL and am a Midwesterner at heart.
