The Space

If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, a 4 mile scenic bike ride to Kingdom Trails, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. The house is a artisan's dream, with built-in cherry cabinets, hardwood floors and concrete counter tops. Everything you could possibly need is here for a perfect Vermont vacation; wood stove, washer and dryer, fire pit, well appointed kitchen, trails to hike and snowshoe and a small cabin in the woods (with it's own woodstove). Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. Enjoy some veggies from the organic garden. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.

My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio (now a small cottage, perfect for 2 people to rent), woodworking shop, metal studio and house.
I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill.

  • A perfect spot to relax after a day of skiing at Burke. Our stay was brief but we enjoyed our time in the cottage and loved the view! We arrived just in time to see the sunset, which was amazing. Meryl was a helpful and responsive host. Looking forward to returning!

  • It was little tough to find at night given that the streets changed names when you cross town lines and some signs were missing; but it was well worth the extra effort. Bed was comfortable, water was hot, heat worked very well, place was very clean and well maintained, scenery was amazing. Owner was responsive to pre-stay questions. It was just 5 miles (15 minutes) from the Kingdom Trails and well worth the travel for the space, peace, and comfort.

  • Meryl had an amazing cottage in a perfectly quaint and scenic part of Vermont. It was wonderfully situated only minutes from Burke Mountain which left us with an unforgettable experience of snowboarding freshly powdered slopes. We will DEFINITELY try to come back in the summer for a change of scenery. Highly recommended.

  • Beautiful location at the crest of a hill overlooking the mountains. Interior was spacious, inviting, and very relaxing. Great heat and hot water; important for a chilly winter's night. We loved it and plan to return again soon.

  • We had a great time at this beautiful, peaceful, light-filled cottage. We enjoyed the simple, tasteful decor and Meryl's lovely paintings. The surrounding landscape is spectacular. I'd love to go each season. Meryl was very responsive as a host.

  • Meryl's studio was just what my friend and I needed. It was quiet, cozy, and beautifully designed. Meryl left us a set of Pentel markers, some nice drawing paper, and instructions to 'Have Fun!' We did that and had a very good sleep, the best of the trip. Anyway, if you want a peaceful and comfortable mountain retreat, book Meryl's studio!

  • I rented the cottage to have a quiet, inspiring location to work on my book. What a great choice it was! The cottage was lovely and clean, the bed and chairs comfortable, and the kitchenette had what I needed to make easy meals. The adirondack chair on the porch faced the stunning valley views and sunsets, and the art inside the cottage and on the property fed the soul. I enjoyed long walks on the network of trails on the property and on the surrounding country roads. Meryl was so kind and friendly and Lyle, the dog, gave me Daily Dose o' Dog.

  • Meryl's cottage was perfect for our Vermont get-away. The cottage itself is so charming, comfortable and super-clean. We loved watching the sunset from the front porch drinking a glass of wine. The surrounding area is beuatiful and we enjoyed taking a leisurely walk around the grounds. Meryl was wonderful, she gave us great tips on where to walk and where to eat. We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Vermont and I can highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing get-away in a beautiful place. Thanks Meryl!!

  • Meryl's cottage was the perfect place for us to stay. We were there a very short time a admittedly did very little. It was an excellent place to do nothing and I am sure it would be a wonderful place to do many things. The talent of Meryl and her husband flows through the buildings and grounds seamlessly. Highly recommend

About
I am an artist and have been painting forever. I have a studio on the property. My husband, David Tanych, is a sculptor, and he also has a studio here. Together we created this compound from a bare piece of newly logged land. We constructed the buildings, built the stone walls and planted the gardens, creating what we believe, is heaven on earth. This is a a unique place, calm and private with incredible views. The Northeast Kingdom is REAL Vermont. Ski areas, golf courses, hikes, swimming, biking and kayaking are just a few of the activities that abound. if you want to have a true, old fashioned Vermont experience, this is the place for you!
