About this listing
If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, a 4 mile scenic bike ride to Kingdom Trails, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. The house is a artisan's dream, with built-in cherry cabinets, hardwood floors and concrete counter tops. Everything you could possibly need is here for a perfect Vermont vacation; wood stove, washer and dryer, fire pit, well appointed kitchen, trails to hike and snowshoe and a small cabin in the woods (with it's own woodstove). Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. Enjoy some veggies from the organic garden. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.
My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio (now a small cottage, perfect for 2 people to rent), woodworking shop, metal studio and house.
I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill.
Please wash dishes before leaving. Sometimes there is a small terrier, Lyle, on the premises.
Don't feed him...he's fat enough already.
Everything was lovely. Great books. Comfortable space. Great location to the amazing Kingdom Trails. Wow. House was just as advertised - beautiful, comfortable, clean and private. Meryl was very responsive and a great host - warm, friendly, even offered to let us pick vegetables from her garden. Couldn't have been better. Thank you!
The location was amazing! The views from the property are spectacular. The house was stocked with firewood for the outside fire pit as well as inside wood stove. The beds were comfortable and living area great for getting ready in the morning. Great value for the area. Thanks Meryl!
Wonderfull house with a great view, close to Kingdom Trail. Perfect for 6 people. We had a great time!
Meryl welcomed us into her home through rapid correspondence via email, and upon arrival, via a personalized tour of the house and the idyllic property, encouraging us to explore the local terrain and to eat from the garden. The residence is perfectly positioned for exploring the riches of the NE Kingdom while offering all creature comforts upon return in the evening, including watching the sun set over the mountains in the distance. We are grateful for the privilege of being able to relax and recuperate in such a serene setting, and look forward to returning.
The host left the door open for me as we were coming late from a wedding in the area. They worked with my schedule which was terrific. The place was clean and very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.

About the Host, Meryl
I am an artist and have been painting forever. I have a studio on the property. My husband, David Tanych, is a sculptor, and he also has a studio here. Together we created this compound from a bare piece of newly logged land. We constructed the buildings, built the stone walls and planted the gardens, creating what we believe, is heaven on earth. This is a a unique place, calm and private with incredible views. The Northeast Kingdom is REAL Vermont. Ski areas, golf courses, hikes, swimming, biking and kayaking are just a few of the activities that abound. if you want to have a true, old fashioned Vermont experience, this is the place for you!
