This apartment is light, spacious, and eclectic. Perfect for one or two people. A nice bedroom overlooking a garden with a king-sized bed and large living room is perfect for having friends over or a nice night in. The bathroom is recently remodeled with a brand new floor and shower (so if you see in reviews that the bathroom was a problem - no longer!)
There is a nice sized kitchen with everything you would need to cook a very good meal, and the space to do it. Sadly, no balcony, but the windows in the kitchen and livingroom overlooking a park do make it feel as if you are outside.
The bathroom is quite small, but there is a standing shower with good water pressure and always lots of hot water!
No smoking. No pets. Free, unlimited internet.
The location is in ALTONA which is near to many bus lines, and a 10 min. walk to the major Altona Bahnhof. The street itself is very quiet (though there can sometimes be noise of children playing during the day) and it's a across the street from a park (where I have blankets you can use to lay out in the sun!) as well as a cultural house called Haus Drei that holds many classes and events every day during the week. The apartment is also a 15 min. walk to all of the popular areas of town: Sternschanze, Reeperbahn, and St. Pauli.
It will be necessary for guests to do their own laundry and cleaning at the end of their stay to ensure that the next guests have clean linens and towels! Laundry detergent will be provided. You are more than welcome to bring your own sheets and towels to avoid doing laundry - but be aware the bed is VERY BIG. 200x200!!!
Interaction with Guests
I will not interact with the guests at all. Key pick up is generally at my work location (the State Opera) which is, truth be told, not TERRIBLY convenient, but it's safe, open 24hrs, and then guests can come at their leisure without having to worry about arriving EXACTLY at the time they planned. The key will NOT have to be returned to this location - making your check out easier!
It's a family neighborhood with a park RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET, including a cultural house with a garden Cafe, wall climbing on Saturday's, and basketball and table tennis. There's a small kiosk one block away that's open even on Sunday's for those quick bites you may need. It's very near tons of restaurants and shops, but not directly in the middle so you're guaranteed a good sleep and a quiet, safe neighborhood!
Other Things to Note
We LOVE our apartment, and also love sharing it with guests when we are out-of-town!
That means you'll find our favorite tea in the cupboard, onions or garlic in the veggie baskets, or other signs we live there ...because we do! You're welcome to help yourself to these things; our home is your home during your stay and we prepare it as we would for our good friends.
Guests are required to do their own laundry at the local Wascherei (5 minutes from the apartment) and cleaning. Basically guests are required to leave the apartment as they found it for the next guests. If they do not do so, a fee of 60 euros could be applied if laundry or cleaning are not completed. If keys are lost, the replacement cost of 45 euros will be applied. I've kept the rental cost low (69 euros a day) for the whole apartment because of the extra work that guests need to do - but it seems worth it to have a whole apartment to yourself with NO cleaning fee!
Rebecca's apartment is a charming place to stay. It is well equipped and has a delightful outlook with tree views front and back from the first floor windows. And a very comfortable bed. A range of supermarkets and cafés are reasonably close by, as is an IKEA store. It's only about 700 mtrs from Hamburg-Altona station. Or there is a bus at the close-by corner , if you can work out where they go. There are two things to be mindful of though. (A) we had to pick up the key from Rebecca's work location, which is not near the apartment. So we had to leave and guard luggage at the central station whilst one of us went to get the keys. A bit inconvenient when you arrive in a strange city. (B) you need to be prepared to allocate some of your holiday time in Hamburg to the laundry & cleaning tasks in order to save on a cleaning fee. Otherwise, we had a marvellous time in this very comfortable apartment and can recommend it, with the above two comments noted.
Yes, I know what you mean about the inconvenience of getting the keys. It's proven, however, over time to be ultimately the best way. Not all guests are as punctual and good at communicating as you two! As I need to pay someone myself to check on the apartment, when they waited for guests sometimes guests would show up terribly late, or early and then get frustrated, etc. It's not an ideal location, but it's always open, safe, and then the timing is less of an issue for all parties.
+ nice and friendly contact
+ reliable and quick response by e-mail
+ street parking in front of appartment
+ easy key handover
+ very quite location in nice neighborhood
+ very comfortable bed with excellent matress, fresh bedcloths
+ overall clean appartment
- bathroom needs major remodelling due to several damaged or missing tiles
- wet towels at check in, needed to dry over night
- fridge: smelly
- not clean stairs outside the appartment
Excellent area of Hamburg. So, as soon as you arrive at the entrance of the ground floor, the first impact will be negative(too much dust on the stairs at the entrance), but after turning the key in the lock, what you see will be the paradise in comparison with the exterior of the apartment: Rebecca house is lovely, clean(very clean) and furnishing accurate. Ah, in comparison to other proposals in the city is not expensive.
Very nice apartment, fantastic location (20-30 minutes walk to the harbour - Landungsbrucken). I highly recommend it.
