Reconnect with nature at this unforgettable mountain escape.
This is the perfect getaway with friends and family if you’re looking to spend time in nature.

The bunkhouse is located between a waterfall and the Hashupi river, in a valley, leading to the Hashupi summer pastures with panoramic views of the Karakoram mountains all around.

Whether you want to meditate by the river early morning, sit and read inside with a cup of coffee or mountain tea, or go on a day trek; we have you covered!

The space
As the name suggests, this is a bunkhouse; meaning this is one large hut with eight comfortable single beds (each with its own window and power sockets), a living room with windows opening up to the stunning views outside, an open kitchen fully stocked with a gas stove, a fridge, toaster, microwave etc, a breakfast bar with stools and a dining table that seats 8 - 10 people.

Outside you’ll find two patios, one with a fireplace and day beds and another with patio furniture where you can chill with your breakfast coffee, brewed fresh with a coffee machine on site (coffee supplies are limited, please bring your own).

The bunkhouse comes with two bathrooms that are fitted with western toilet seats, sinks and showers with independent water heaters. Our water comes straight from a glacial stream which means the heaters do need about 10 - 15 minutes to reheat the water after each guest use (sometimes more, depending on usage). Please take short showers and conserve water for your fellow guests. Please bring organic soaps/shampoos to minimise your impact on the environment.

IMPORTANT: This is not a fully serviced hotel/motel. Please clean up after yourselves, especially the bathrooms after you shower so that it doesn't get wet and slimy (we have sponges in each bathroom so you can wipe the sinks/faucets). Please try to reuse the towels as much as possible during your stay because the nearest laundry facility is a 45 minute drive away and takes two days to return our laundry. Please keep kitchen and dining areas clean to avoid pests and keep your shoes off the carpets.

Where you’ll be

Shigar, Pakistan

We are located at the very end of a quiet little village called Hashupi. This is a shepherding population that relies on income from raising livestock and farming. This is not a place used to tourists and it’s a process to get the locals feeling good about strangers in their land. This is why it’s important for anyone visiting to remember they are in a quiet place, to respect and celebrate their silence, and to adapt to their cultural norms instead of sticking out and disturbing the peace. Having said that, the locals are generous and hospitable and can teach you a thing or two about their way of life in the mountains - if you’re keen on getting to know them.

I’m a 43 year old who left his career with the BBC World Service behind and set up a small adventure travel company six years ago. Since then, I’ve walked twice across Pakistan. Once alone to raise money for a remote school in the mountains and once for National Geographic as part of the ‘Out of Eden Walk’ Project.

I now own a beautiful Bunkhouse in the Hashupi village of the Shigar District. This is the second property I have as part of my off-grid unique stays project, The Shepherds Inn.

You’ll usually see me and my dog Athena (she’s a beautiful and mild mannered shepsky) on site managing your stays. I have a few locals that help me run the place, whether to help get groceries for your stay or clean up. We are always around but appreciate your privacy.

We are all looking forward to hosting and sharing your mountain adventures soon!
