Voici: Nice and clean apartment with a great host! Marina was very helpful and very quiet! We recommend this spot to anyone looking for an inexpensive stay in Brooklyn. We would definitely go back for second stay.
I was accompanied by my wife and two kids. Our stay in Marina's house from March 31st to April 3 was pleasant. On the day of arrival though Marina came from work late in the night but we were warmly welcome by her boy friend Andrey. Thank you Andrey for help. We found both Marina and Andrey as excellent people who very well understand privacy of their guest and comfort. The presence of their cat occasionally is really a fun especially for kids. Overall, we found the things in place as described by the host hence I recommend this place.
Marina was very accommodating! She is very quick at responding, and I enjoyed the place. However, if you are planning to spend most of your time in Manhattan, this location is a bit out of the way. Overall a great experience.
Marina is a very kind hostess, I booked her room for my friend's family, I just worried about they might feel so strange to stay in a private room, but my friend told me they had very wonderful time with Marina after, and ask me to leave special thanks for Marina.
Marina is friendly and active. She met me in the city to give me the keys because she was working there and was sleeping till after I left the apt in the morning each day so I didn't see her much. She invited me to her bf's rock show. He had a similar schedule so I didn't talk to him much either.
There is a possibility of you having a roommate with another guest but this wasn't my experience. If so, the bedroom is very big and adequate for a few people. The room had decent daylight from the one large window. There were also a couple lamps and fans. The room temp was fine. Since it was just me staying I had my choice of a futon bed or small bed. The small bed was firm and I slept fine on it.
The bathroom is large with good daylight. If you read her info you'll notice you'll be sharing it with 2 cats. One of them peed in the toilet in front of me, pretty cool) I have cats so I'm like whatever. One of her cats is a real friendly guy who will say hello by rubbing on you. The other keeps her distance and runs around, a bit hyper. The shower head is very high, a person about 6'6'' could shower comfortably. The kitchen is also decent size. I left my food in the fridge and nobody ate it. It's several blocks from the subway but the neighborhood is safe and I walked it all hours of the day. Her front door is modern, steel, and with 2 modern locks. Not the 100 year old wood ones with 10 coats of paint and 4 50 year old locks like many of NYC apts. I enjoyed my stay!
In all honesty Marina is a very nice person and very friendly host, but the prices she charges for a shared room simply are not right in my opinion. There are plenty of better options for the prices charged here.
Location: not convenient or near the subway. Walking 12 blocks back and forth to the train and home everyday sucked.
Room: shared it with plenty of random strangers. Neighbors are loud. The ceiling cracked and fell on my things. Photos are not current. My things were constantly reorganized and I didn't really like that.
Overall apt: filthy due to the cats hair and them crapping everywhere, and there were several roaches. (why is there a cleaning fee?) I never felt comfortable cooking in the kitchen. Bathroom reeked of cat poop and even found it in the tub 3 times... I cleaned it up... Each time...
I was desperate to move to NYC because I found a job, and I got stuck with this place but I am grateful to her for opening up her home for 30 days while I apartment hunted. She even let me stay three extra days half price so I could move into my own apartment. That being said, I still need to be honest about my experience here.
Marina thank you for your hospitality and I hope this helps you improve the experience of your next guest.
Thank you for taking your time to write such a thorough review, Nijel, and im sorry you had such a miserable experience...
However things like location, room being shared, presence of cats and potential consiquences shouldn't have been a surprise as my listing is beyond detailed and honest and mentions all of the above, it was your responsibility to get aquainted with the description before booking.
The ceiling paint was a mere accident which was addressed immediately, I had management and workers come and assess the situation and a renovation will be done; thats also a reason why I had to move your stuff, and I explained it to you.
And roaches appeared because apparently there is a remodeling happening in a couple apartments in the building and the basement so that forced them out of their habitat, its been quite a shock for me as well, and the measures have been taken.
Lethicia: Marina and Andrey her boyfriend was a very great hosts, they were always here to help us when we needed. The room was big and clean and we appreciate the fact that Marina prepare towels for us, like in a hotel ;) She is a very good person, open-minded and willing to discover other (website hidden): Airbnb is an amazing experience but sharing it with Marina and Andrey made it even better. Both gave us many good advices about the life in New York. The apartment is located in a borough and an area that we liked, so we were pleased to be there. We were also delighted to share their passion for Art. Thank you for sharing your universe! We look forward to seeing you in Europe!
