Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
This house goes beyond your wildest Big Bend glamping dreams. It feels like you're staying at a resort, but you have the whole property all to yourself. Located on a private ranch bordering FM 170/The River Road just 7 miles SE of Presidio, TX, near Big Bend Ranch State Park and only 40 miles to Lajitas, this custom adobe exudes luxury: a well-equipped kitchen, pillowtop mattresses, organic linens, Molton Brown spa products, & more await!

The space
Thoughtful touches abound at La Centinela, right down to the name of the home. La Centinela is named after the Mexican Mountain just opposite of Rio Bravo Ranch. The architecturally-designed adobe is perched high above FM 170 (widely considered the most scenic road in the Lone Star State). Panoramic views only available to our guests include views of the Alamito Creek / Rio Grande Confluence, as well as Sierra Rica, one of the tallest mountains in the region, the Cerros Las Cuchillas on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande and the rocky flank of the La Centinela Mountain (and namesake). Earth Space of Santa Fe, New Mexico, custom-built the adobe and used authentic adobe brick construction for this 2-bedroom 2-bathroom masterpiece, including 2 kiva fireplaces and a 1,000+ sq. ft. back porch complete with 6 giant open arches. Guests gravitate to the porch morning, noon and night for coffee sipping, sight seeing, photography, star gazing and the like. Curl up with a good book or a loved one to reconnect with your thoughts, your friends and with nature. Every window at La Centinela boasts a view, and the porch arches are no exception! The windows aren't the only features that are intentional. The entire space has been carefully thought out for your stay, whether it's the open-concept furniture arrangement in the living room, carefully curated mirrors and art, certain style and comfort elements or even hand-chosen books and keepsakes that tell the story of the land and house you have chosen to visit.

Guest access
All parking at La Centinela is free. Guests can park right in front of the home. There is ample parking for 4 on-site vehicles. Additional vehicles can be accommodated upon request. Guests of La Centinela are granted access to explore the entirety of Rio Bravo Ranch during one's stay.

Neighborhood highlights

The nearest inhabited house is almost 1 mile away and not in sight from Rio Bravo Ranch. What is in sight? The stars, the Milky Way and the amber twinkling afar from the lights of Ojinaga, Mexico are in sight and beautifully frame the dark sky that the Big Bend works so hard to protect. You are welcome to stroll the property and explore our unique riparian area of ancient billowing cottonwood trees. You may be lucky enough to spot the rare pair of Mexican Gray Hawks that call Rio Bravo Ranch home or any number of other species of wildlife, including but not limited to, javelina, jack rabbits, road runners, and the occasional wandering llamas that traverse from the neighbor's (about 2 miles down the River Road) farm.
