The Space

KIRPAL MEDITATION AND ECOLOGICAL CENTER (KMEC)

A lovely octagon cabin with one queen size bed and one twin bed. The space does have the space for another twin bed comfortably (just let us know your needs).

The shared fully equipted kitchen and two fully equipped, clean, and modern bathrooms, with a great jungle view, are about 60 feet away.

Our spacious and open ten acre property is surrounded by a buffer of Jungle and features 150+ trees with 30 or so kinds of tropical fruit. You're welcome to help yourself to the freshest fruit possible whenever they're ripe!

Swimming is half a mile away at Isaac Kepo'okalani Hale Park, one of the few safe places for swimming on this rugged, extremely scenic, coast.

A body-temperature warm-pond park is just a half mile further, as well as excellent snorkeling in the wave-protected Kapoho Tide Pools with dozens of corals, and thousands of brightly colored fish.

The nearly constant lava-flow area is just half an hour to the West of us, and perfect for a sunset, or sunrise, hike where you'll often see a cascade of red-hot lava plunging 50 or 60 feet into the ocean boiling below. Truly awesome! A peak experience for most of our guests.

Shopping, a natural foods market, and delicious restaurants are 10 minutes away in Pahoa Town. Several large Farmer Markets operate on the weekends too.

Our Teak Meditation Pavilion was made in Bali and is, to us, a very holy and special place for prayer and reflection. We don't preach, or otherwise "reach out"...., it's simply there if you would like some peace and tranquility - which is, as most people tell us, is our main product. :-)

We are an alcohol and drug free, vegetarian facility having no eggs, meat, chicken or fish served or prepared here.

The cost contained herein is all inclusive covering the required Hawaii Hotel Room Tax Hawaii General Excise Tax.

  • We had really nice experience staying in the Kirpal Meditation Mango Cabin... Cabin was spacious and was next to Kitchen, Shower & Restroom. We had totally diofferent experience staying in the farm and we really enjoyed the birds sound. Host was so much helpful and gave us directions and even joined us for the early morning sunrise bath in the near by natural warm water lake. He shared all the details of the near by attractions. This place has lot of Orange and Papaya trees and host informed us we can have any ripe fruit on the property.. we can pick it our self and enjoy its great taste.

It is totally different experience you would feel like you are camping in the Jungle

  • My husband and I recently stayed at the Mango cabin for 4 nights. Even though I was assured by the host that the place was very peaceful, it gets very loud at night due to the musical accompaniment performed by the frogs. Luckily, I brought the earplugs. Furthermore, since the cabin is located right next to the communal kitchen, you can hear people talking and music being streamed from an electronic device. Also, if you have the light on after the sun sets, you will not get much privacy as the entrance door to the cabin is see-through.

  • El entorno es espectacular, el sitio es muy bonito y acogedor y el anfitrión es amable y simpático.
La habitación es fantástica PERO no es nada recomendable pedir una cama supletoria porque es una tortura para la espalda y se pasa frío.

  • If you are looking for a simple and remote getaway, this is your place. Our overall experience was a great one. The people were very friendly and accommodating. The grounds were immaculate. The Mango Cabin, in which we stayed, was the perfect size for our family of three (with small child). Loved the location and its proximity to the beach, farmers market and thermal pools. You definitely need a car to get out there. Would have liked to have stayed longer for sure!

  • Amazing experience, especially the bathroom open to the jungle and the sound of the frogs during the night.
Very cosy and quiet place, we really enjoyed it!

  • the mango cabin is a very lovely place to stay - so peaceful and with the sounds of frogs to fall asleep to!
the cabin is comfortable and the bathroom has a charming view of trees to look at while you shower.
one of the highlights is the incredibly beautiful road you travel along to get to the property (although i would advise arriving in the daytime!) - huge rainforest trees covered in vines. stunning!
the hosts were helpful and communication was always prompt.
make sure you go and have a soak in the hot spring nearby to the property!

  • Excellent relaxing place to stay on the Big Island for anyone who is looking for something remote, quiet and close to nature. It was like "luxury camping" ... we loved it.

  • Mari and Lenny are the perfect hosts. Their grounds and cottages are beautiul open air units with their own privacy areas. The open showers are situated open to the native greens on one side. Loved listening to the frogs and rain at night. Most comfortable beds on the island!!!

Great place to stay to explore the SE portion of Hawaii. We'll no doubt request to stay here again

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at the Mango Cabin for four nights in February and enjoyed it incredibly. The space manages to be both very much in the jungle while remaining well isolated from the only part of the jungle that isn't awesome (bugs).

The amenities here also leave nothing to nothing to be desired, you have access to a full kitchen right next to the little cabin and maybe the most fun 'bathroom' ever.

NOTE: I would recommend getting a vehicle for traveling around here if you've never been, we almost didn't and it woulda been a huge mistake. Tony's (search Yelp) is an awesome local alternative to expensive/boring airport car rentals.

  • The Mango Cabin is absolutely stunning even without factoring in the gorgeous property it stands on that's just minutes away from the water and hot ponds. Kmec was incredibly warm, welcoming, and happy to share his fruit and wheatgrass with all of his guests. My partner and I wished we could've stayed longer. This place was definitely our favorite. Quiet, romantic, and peaceful. I highly recommend this place and hope to visit again in the future!

Kirpal Meditation and Ecological Center
About
Kirpal Meditation and Ecological Center is a half mile from the ocean on the eastern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii, approximately seven miles from the small village of Pahoa. The 10-acre ocean-view property is blessed with average daytime temperatures of 85° F year-round, and 65° F at night, with cool, fragrant trade winds, surrounding tropical flora, including old growth mangoes, nearby swimming, surfing and snorkeling. This property was once a papaya farm and is now newly planted with bamboo, papaya, palms, banana and many other fruit trees. The octagonal Balinese meditation pavilion is set among shade-trees with an expansive view of the ocean. The island wildlife is all around us – a variety of birds by day and at night there's the pleasant chirping of Coqui frogs – and there are no snakes. Natural wonders include Volcanoes National Park, for lava and crater viewing, volcanically heated warm ponds and steam vents (as outdoor saunas) and other wonders of the lush tropics. Kmec opened in the summer of 2008 for pre-arranged seasonal meditation retreats and private meditation-vacations on request. Additionally, we would like to extend our welcome to Big Island travelers offering cozy cottages and open air kitchen and bath.
