The Space

The Fox Hole is a charming self contained studio style cottage in the heart of historic village, Woodbridge, in Southern Tasmania.

Woodbridge is one of the prettiest small villages in the Channel area and is conveniently nestled along the D'entrecasteaux waterways, abundant with gourmet foods, wineries and stunning natural beauty.

The cottage is open plan, a gorgeous kitchenette with benches made from Tasmanian Blackwood and beautiful Tas oak timber floors throughout.

There is a separate bedroom and bathroom and a pull out sofa bed in the lounge accommodates 2 extra people if needed.

A small courtyard backs onto the garden and a fruit orchard shared by free roaming chooks. Pick some apples and mulberries in season or help yourself to a lime or lemon for your gin and tonic.

Gilbert makes stunning Huon Pine Picnic Planks on the premises and are available for purchase. I also sell them at the famous Salamanca Market on Saturdays.

  • Definitely a lovely little cottage. Modern and stylish, very comfortable and spacious (we travelled with our toddler) and great provisions. Hosts were lovely and helpful.
One point to note is that this is a converted flat in a backyard - a very lovely one, but we were a little surprised that it was not more private (just a lattice screening front door from the house in front). We were expecting a more rural property given the description of orchards, roaming chickens, etc. and we were after that secluded feeling. It is winter so the half dozen fruit trees in the backyard were obviously bare which I imagine would be much prettier at other times.
It is definitely in a great location in terms of convenience, is close to Cygnet and the Huon trail and we could walk to the water (and a playground for our toddler) which was lovely. Would recommend if you are touring around and using it just as a base, very convenient and comfortable.

  • The Fox Hole was wonderful! We based ourselves here for 2-3 days, enjoyed bruny island and Woodbridge/surrounds. The studio is beautifully furnished, comfy bed, breakfast was devine and the kitchen has everything you need. The apples and lemons were yummy too! Thanks lizz!

  • Our stay at The Fox Hole was great. It is a gorgeous cottage, modern, very clean and comfortable. Eating delicious apples straight off the tree was a treat and we really enjoyed the breakfast spread too. Lovely to walk around the waterfront and so close to Peppermint Bay, perfect for our visit. Wonderful hosts, highly recommend.

  • The Fox Hole is absolutely delightful! My brother and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The breakfast provisions were so lovely and fresh. I loved having chooks strolling about the yard as well. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Fox Hole and a trip around the Huon Valley.

  • We spent the last two nights of our Tasmanian adventure at The Fox Hole - what a wonderful stay. The cottage was lovely with attention given to very possible detail, right down to the superb breakfast provisions. The cottage surroundings and local area are picturesque. Plenty or as little to do as you wish and a very easy (and quick) drive for us to the airport on our departing morning. Lizz is a fabulous host ... we could not resist purchasing a bag of her delicious granola and one of Gilbert's beautiful Huon pine picnic planks. This was the first time we have used 'airbnb' - will definitely use the site again. We didn't want to leave The Fox Hole and could not recommend it highly enough.

Hi I'm Lizz I have been living in Woodbridge with my husband Gilbert and two children for the past 16 years. We are mad about food. I am a pastry chef and currently run a small gourmet food business with my family which we operate from Woodbridge. We are involved in numerous markets and festivals where we sell our produce. Gilbert is mad about rare species timber and makes and sells stunning Huon Pine cheese boards. He is also very interested in Tasmanian history and has extensive local knowledge. In the summer we ‘jetty jump’, play around with boats and dive for abalone. The kids love to snorkel and there are plenty of beautiful places to explore. We love Air BNB. It is well run and user friendly.
