Cozy studio in medieval Tallinn

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Pühavaimu, Tallinn, Harju County 10123, Estonia

The Space

Fabulous and unique studio apartment in the heart of medieval Tallinn, a Unesco world heritage site. The apartment is located only one hundred meters from the main square, (you could not be more central) yet hidden away in a secluded and quiet courtyard. Modern bathroom, with unique features (the toilet is built into an existing chimney) beautiful and functional kitchen and comfortable double bed. It is wifi connected.
An abundance of museums, old churches and restaurants are just minutes away. The Holy Ghost church, a medieval building (parts of the construction date from the 13th century) is to be found at the top of our street, as is the Tallinn city museum, housed in a 14th century merchants dwelling. Located at bottom of our quiet meandering cobblestone way is the hotel Schloessle a 5 star accommodation.
And just in case you thought Tallinn was only meant to be visited in the summer, I would like to reveal to you that during its dark and snowy months, Tallinn is one of the most romantic cities in Europe. Candle lighted cafes, an abundance of open fires in warm and welcoming restaurants, lively bars. Fewer tourists.
Autumn also brings the Dark Nights Film Festival, an international collection of some of the best and most talked about films of the year. A highlight for all of Scandinavia, and every theater in walking distance from the apartment.
It is also signal for the beginning of the music season. A time of chamber recitals, concerts and opera.
And as Christmas approaches, so does the construction of the Christmas Market in the Old Town Square. Said to be one of the best, if not the best market in all of Europe. Unique and finely crafted gifts are in abundance, as is gluh wine and Christmas cheer.

  • The location of this cozy studio couldn't be better - right at the heart of medieaval Tallinn, just two steps from the main square. It was a wonderful experience - taking walks at night under the stars along cobbled streets with Gothic houses and then going home right there in the middle of it all:)

The apartment itself is very convenient, everything is in working order, the cable TV and Wi-FI Internet work very well.

There is a supermarket not far away (where one can buy Tallinn chocolates and Vana Tallinn liqueuer cheaper than in a duty free shop at the airport), and a 24 hour shop les sthan 200 meters away in Pikk street. The airport itself is only a 5 miniute drive (less than 10 Euro if you use Tallink taxi service), the port from where we went to Helsinki by feryy is only a 15 minute walk.

We stayed with a 2,5 y.o. and he loved the studio and the city and everything:)

  • The apartment was warm and cosy and in a great location - walk out of the door, straight into the centre of old town. Modern and functional kitchen and bathroom (the heated floor was a big bonus!) and very clean.
Our only negative would be that the mattress was very uncomfortable (although better once we had turned it over) and the bed frame quite noisy.
We really enjoyed our stay in tallinn which is a great city. Anu was very accommodating, answered any queries immediately and went out of her way to help us store our luggage for our final day. Thank you!

  • Wayne's studio is the perfect little gem in the heart of medieval Tallinn. I could not have been happier, and I will always hope to stay here again if I come to Estonia again! Thank you Anu for making everything so smooth and easy, too.

  • We stayed at Wayne's place for 3 nights and we were welcomed by his friend Anu. She was really professional and informative.
The apartment is indeed nice and cozy, clean and quite.

I just have to point out that the sofa is really uncomfortable. We also had quite a hard time sleeping in the bed since it's quite noisy and mattress is not really comfortable.

Aside from that the location is simply SUPERB, being located in Puhavaimu it's just a few steps away from Raekoja Plats and a few minutes away from 24h grocery and market. Everything in the Old Town is just around the corner!

  • It was great experience!!! We arrived to Tallinn in early morning but Anu, a friend of Wayne, met us and took our baggage. The apartment was very cosy and clean. It's placed in the heart of old town. Well equipment and comfortable to stay. This apartment is unique because it's a good mix of modern and comfortable with some pieces of historical points. Hope my next stay in Tallinn I will stay at this apartment!

  • This apartment could not be better located. It's smack in the middle of the Old Town! You walk out the door into a fairytale. Very clean with good WiFi, TV and everything you need. A friend of Wayne's let us into the apartment and was very responsive to texts when we had questions. A bit short on hot water in the bathroom sometimes, but that's not really why you visit Tallinn!

  • To keep it simple, this is a fantastic apartment in an excellent location, with a great host. I'd very happily stay here again.

I am an Australian writer living in both Estonia and the Netherlands. I wrote my first book while living in an old schoolhouse in the Estonian countryside. Estonia, then newly independent from the Sovjet Union, made such a deep and hopeful impression on me, that I decided to buy an apartment in Tallinn, so that I would always have a home whenever I returned. Because my work often takes me to Australia and Latin America, I am in Estonia infrequently these days, and when that is the case, guests will be received by my Estonian friend Anu Liibek.
