Welcome to The Homestead Cottage. A beautiful 19th century building in the heart of Goathland. The property is attached to our family home, but is completely self contained. On site, we also have The Homestead Kitchen, our restaurant that offers relaxed fine dining (open Weds- Sat lunch and dinner, and lunch on Sundays. Closed first week of Feb, first two weeks of August and first week of November for staff holidays)

The space
The Homestead Cottage is full of country character, with beamed ceilings in the living room, and through the wooden windows you will look out onto the beauty of the North York Moors.

We hope that you will find everything you need and want it to feel like a home from home.

KITCHEN
A modern space with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, microwave, kettle, and toaster. We both love to cook, so have provided you with plenty of pots, pans and tools in there - if you find we’ve forgotten anything, please let us know as we are happy to lend anything that’s needed.

DINING
Within the kitchen, there is space for dining at the table. We love a sociable kitchen where you can chat, cook and eat together. We have a highchair available on request. There is also a table in the living area if you prefer to eat in there.

Of course if you don’t feel like cooking, we have our on-site restaurant, The Homestead Kitchen. A small 24 cover dining experience, giving the best examples of locally sourced ingredients cooked up into delicious meals. Open lunch and dinner, Weds - Sat, and a long lunch on Sundays. Booking is advisable.

RELAXING
For cosy days and nights, the living area has a big sofa, and comfy chair. Large flatscreen smart tv with access to on demand services (you will need your own log in details).

IMPORTANT NOTE RE TV: due to the local mast getting struck by lightening, there is currently no digital tv signal in the village.

For warmer days, the cottage has access to a walled front garden which is south facing.

BEDROOM 1
A light and spacious room, with king size bed. Bedside tables and lamps, hanging space, desk and chair, chest of drawers.

BEDROOM 2
Another king size bed, along with built in wardrobes with ample storage space.

BEDROOM 3
Cosy twin room with two single beds. Bedside cabinets and chest of drawers.

BATHROOM
Modern bathroom with toilet, sink and shower over the bath.

Where you’ll be

Goathland, England, United Kingdom

We are situated in a beautiful spot at one end of the village. There are many beautiful walks straight out the door.. the footpath down to the Mallyan waterfall is next door, or you can also head that way and go off towards Beckhole, and even join the old railway line and walk right to Grosmont.

Next door is the Mallyan hotel, a great place for food and drinks, and it even has its own coffee shop on site with plenty of outdoor seating. Due to the proximity, you may hear some incidental noise from people chatting in their outside seating area, but this is generally just during the day and we have never found it a problem. It’s certainly worth it for the access to delicious cakes and drinks!

A ten minute stroll down the road will take you to the sweet little row of shops and tea rooms in the centre of the village. From here you can head down to the North York Moors steam railway and watch the locomotives go by (as seen in Harry Potter!)

There is a bus stop right outside the cottage, head north for Whitby, or south for Pickering / Malton / York.

Hello I’m Cecily. I live with my partner and two young children in the beautiful village of Goathland. We spend our days running our small restaurant, The Homestead Kitchen, and letting out our cottage next to our house. I love being back in the countryside where I grew up!

The cottage is self contained, but attached to our family home. We also run a small restaurant at the far end of the property so we will generally always be around and about should you need us.

The gardens at the rear of the property are all for our private use, so you may see us around and about out there.
