This holiday home is about one thing: peace.
If you enjoy the sound of your own thoughts to the back drop of the breeze through leaves, this place is for you. A true get away, a holiday for the senses, unwind under an olive tree in the mountains...
Nestled in the nook of an ancient olive terrace this property treads delicately on the landscape. Built underground with a strong ring like shape the curved ceilings and lightwells are a feast for the senses, changing the interplay of light as the sun moves overhead. With two cool double bedrooms to the rear, a bespoke shower room and huge dining/kitchen/living area. A 4m high atrium filled with plants, floods the property with natural light at it's centre. We love up-cycling our roadside finds to make beautiful original furniture and do so wherever possible. From the agricultural fruit boxes to our washing machine drum bathroom sink, the decor is certainly different! The kitchen countertops are made from polished concrete and are made in situ to fit the space. We love lighting and have coloured lights in the kitchen that smoothly shift through the rainbow just for fun! Access to the internet, DVD player, and stereo. Large shaded fly free area to the front of the property for dining al fresco and lounging enjoying the stunning mountainscapes. Built in BBQ area. We love to make atmospheric spaces for the comfort and relaxation of our guests.
The house is 4km drive on a partially alsphalted track to the pretty riverside village of Tivenys where you will find all local amenities and a very relaxed atmosphere. A further 20 minute drive takes you to the medieval town of Tortosa. The Els Ports nature park is a 40 minute drive, the coastal beaches 35Km, the nearest being L'Ampolla.
Eve's house is ingenious. The sky lights create a maze of beauty at all hours of the day. it is a house that has been lived in and loved. You can feel the relaxed vibe. You can try her localy pressed olive oil and home made jam. The stillness of the surrounding Cardo mountains is also worth the trip on it's own. You can explore the vast olive groves and discover many treasures. It is fit for a perfect vacation away from it all.
If you are looking for peace and serenity it can most definitely be found here. Up an extremely windy dirt road, ( which honestly is not for the faint of heart) to your own private oasis amidst the olive trees, you will find an intelligently designed cave house. It looks just as awesome as it does in the pictures.
While we didn't get the opportunity to meet the owner or caretaker, whenever we needed help (the internet kept getting knocked out by storms) we got a quick response.
One thing to note though is the bedrooms. Seeing as the house is actually a part of a cave, and the bedrooms are in the back with only a teeny window on the ceiling, they can get a little claustrophobic, even though there are high ceilings. We had to keep the bedroom door open to sleep comfortably. It certainly may not bother everyone, it didn't seem to bother some of our friends that came to visit, but just something to keep in mind.
The area around the house is fantastic, there are so many things to do and see within 30 minutes to an hour drive. We particularly loved the Priorat region. We most definitely felt like the seven days we spent there were not enough!
Thanks for the sparkling review Allison. We will get a fan to put in the bedrooms to help circulate the air a little for those super hot summer nights and leave a note to better explain how to open and close the light wells in the ceiling. Glad you enjoyed the area, makes me feel homesick!

We spent 10 days at the Eve's house during our holidays in May 2013. We had a incredible time there. We felt like at home during our stay. The unique architecture and warm welcome / energy of house, the incredibly view across the olive grove and valley below us, everything was amazing.
We arrived late at night, thanks to Eve's well written description we had no problem finding the "hidden" house. It a 15 minute journey from the main road on a mixture of dirt track and pave parts winding up into the mountains. We traveled with our 3 year old daughter. She enjoyed the garden and the swing under the olive tree very much. The kitchen was great and with a fantastic supply of local foods from the valley below we had no problem make lunch/dinner. Trip for fellow travelers, if you go out to eat. Go out for lunch and take lunch menus. Incredible value for the money (10-11 Euros pp). The area of the ebru delta and terra alta has lots of attractions, so not shortage of things to do. All in all one of the best vacations we had. We loved it and hope to come back one day. Thanks so much Eve for creating this unique place.
I almost want to keep Eve's place a secret for myself. It is a little paradise and was a perfect place to relax for a few days. The house is beautifully built and has all the comforts you need while being solar powered and innovative in its design-- though you can't be a high-maintenance person to be able to enjoy it. The surrounding olive groves and mountains are beautiful and it was very peaceful. We had trouble lighting the wood stove at first but once we did we enjoyed gathering wood and were sufficiently warm. We didn't meet Eve but she was lovely in our email exchanges and everything went smoothly with being let in and guided to the house by a friend of hers.
THANK YOU EVE
