Enjoy a Thoreau-like getaway in our eco-friendly creekside cabin! Hand-built by an Amish craftsman, this beautiful 4-season log cabin is perfect for 1 or 2 adults seeking quiet solitude in nature. Yet we're only 12 minutes from the I-90 toll road, major shopping & dining; 2 hrs from Chicago; and 50 minutes from Lake Michigan.

The cabin sits on a wooded riverbank overlooking Christiana Creek, with full electric, lights, heat & A/C, kitchenette, indoor toilet, 2 twin beds, table and chairs.

The space
This is a spacious, four-season, hand-built log cabin with basic amenities and furnishings for 2 people. Bedding, towels, and kitchen/cleaning supplies all provided.

Solar! We generate most of our electric power from rooftop solar panels and storage batteries at our home next door. You can experience the simplicity of off-grid living and a "tiny-house" lifestyle while still enjoying basic amenities, electric outlets, and even USB charging ports.

Fresh water for drinking and cleaning is dispensed from a stoneware water cooler in the kitchenette (see photos). The cabin does not have indoor plumbing so additional fresh water is provided in convenient storage jugs, refilled at the outdoor spigot. An electric kettle/water boiler provides hot water for beverages, washing dishes, and cleaning up (see the photos and detailed descriptions).

Bathroom: The cabin has an eco-friendly, "dry" composting toilet in the attached bathroom (see photos and click on each for more information). Easy instructions provided by your hosts during check-in.

Showers: Guests can arrange to take a quick hot shower in our home next door. Solo female guests will be offered times when Regina is home.

Cooking: Guests can heat simple dishes on the single-burner hotplate or microwave, heat water in the electric kettle, and brew fresh morning coffee in the coffee maker. Ample food and beverage storage in the 3 cu. ft. dorm-type refrigerator. Basic pots, pans, kitchen utensils, and dinnerware provided.

Interior cabin dimensions are 12' x 20' (240 sq. ft.) The bathroom is 5' x 5'.

Where you’ll be

Cassopolis, Michigan, United States

Our 3-acre property is nestled in the beautiful rolling woodlands and farmland of southwest Michigan near the villages of Cassopolis and Edwardsburg. Our country road is a popular route for local bicycle clubs for its scenic views and low traffic. Guests can enjoy long walks on nearby gravel roads that meander along our creek and through farmland and wooded areas. Our rural neighbors are friendly and many have lived in the area for generations.

Evenings in the cabin are peaceful and utterly quiet with only the sound of crickets, owls, or the wind whispering through the red oaks around the cabin. Clear night skies are spectacular for stargazing, as we are located far enough from the light of major urban centers.

Nearby: County parks & hiking trails, great local restaurants, a hipster brewpub, historic sites (e.g. the Underground Railroad's Bonine House), Amish community crafts & furniture, lakeside villages, a ski hill, the Univ. of Notre Dame (35 minutes), and the Lake Michigan shore/towns just an hour away.

We are an active, community-oriented couple that has lived in the Michiana area for 30+ years.

Regina is from Oregon and served as Director of Campus Ministry at Saint Mary's College for many years. Jeff is from Minnesota and is self-employed as a holistic spiritual counselor, teacher and author after 25 years in healthcare chaplaincy.

Regina is a swimmer, cook, reader, and awesome chef; Jeff is a year-round bicycle commuter, runner, writer, and outdoor enthusiast. We both enjoy travel and the outdoors. Regina has traveled to Latin America to work with impoverished communities and work on her Spanish. Jeff has studied indigenous healing practices in N. and S. America, volunteered with the people of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in SD, and leads nature-based self-discovery and healing programs. We both enjoy contemplative spiritual practices and have done work with the Benedictine (Regina) and Trappist (Jeff) communities. We are working to make our guest cabin as welcoming and eco-friendly as possible!
