The Village "Hinterrhein"
Nice little village in the Swiss mountains, 80 inhabitants: Hinterrhein is a nice place to start tours by walking or biking summer and winter time. Ski areas Splügen and San Bernardino reachable in 8 minutes.
That the village is near the road, and there can be some noise at night.
Nice alp panorama, wild water rivers, lakes, wild animals, lot of museums and history.
Distances: Chur 35-40min, Lugano/Locarno 1 hour. By train a few minutes more.
Please see also the cusomers testimonials; here one of my choice which describe the appartments very incisive: "This little gem lies just north of the San Bernadino Tunnel. An extremely sweet alpine hamlet just off the autobahn. Dominik's mother runs the tiny village store which has a wide range of groceries and on this occasion she was the welcome party. The accommodation is a ski chalet but functions equally well outside the ski season and is well equipped with fully functioning kitchen and generous use of coffee machine and pantry and even some breakfast provisions in the fridge. Beds were extremely comfortable and bedding of high quality ; a welcome sight after a long drive. We only stayed one night as we were passing through but were reluctant to leave and this place would be a good base for a longer walking or mountain biking holiday. Communication with Dominik prior to the stay was great and he was very helpful with offering to book somewhere for us to eat."
The hole apartment is available to you.
Nature, hiking, biking, snow sports from the finest, a lot of snow (1600 above sea level), not far to Milano (2h) or Zurich (2h). Very small village with only 80 people.
From Zurich by train to Chur, then by bus to Hinterrhein. From Bellinzona by bus direct to us.
We like the hospitality of course. The apartment is cosy n it meets our expectation. Dominik's mom was kind enough to wait for us cos we arrived rather late that nite drove fr Innsbruck. My son esp enjoyed the snow that awaited us... We wish we stayed longer but we have a few other destinations to go to... Overall, it was a lovely experience for us since we are from a tropical climate country of Malaysia.
We had a fantastic stay at Hinterrhein, with much much snow!!!
The house is fully equipped, it was very easy even with a 3 years old child. We found every thing we needed for breakfast at the small shop in the village, and everything else at Splüngen, 10min far from Hinterrhein by car (nice ski/snowboard place, luge for small children).
We look forward to go back, maybe in summer!
I your looking for that perfect Swiss Alpine hideaway in the mountains look no further this is a great place to stay! The accommodation was brilliant with everything you needed to make your stay enjoyable. Place was delightfully clean and cosy with a wonderful wood burning stove to keep you warm at night. I was welcomed by Dominik's mum whilst couldn't speak much english did not matter as she patiently pointed out all the key features of the apartment. I highly recommend a days drive out at St Moritz Bernina Pass scenery is unforgettable!
A quaint, out of the way place, a little difficult to find but we were well provided for and comfortable.
The little town of Hinterrhein is beautiful in the summer. We stayed on the top floor of this lovely chalet. It has a nice balcony and living room and a very well equipped kitchen. It was clean and comfortable. The lady that Dominik had give us the keys runs a nice little shop in town. There are lots of organic farms in Hinterrhein and you can buy fresh cheese. They drove the goats through town one morning during our stay and it was lovely to see. This chalet would be wonderful for a group of 7 or 8 people traveling together.
Dominic was away on holiday so I did not meet him but he was tremendeously helpful and quick to respond with everything. He gave me very good directions and his mother was actually waiting outside the house for me when I arrived.
His mother and father were absolutely wonderful. The little we could communicate through our language barrier was gorgeous through body language. His mother . . . let me know when the cows with their bells would be walked through the small town the day after the children put on a cow bell performance. The rolling hills were beautiful. It is quite close to an army base so you must go up into the mountains by bike or foot not along the river in the direction away from Splügen, but the army men were very polite.
Dominics dad actually drove me into Splügen and introduced me to a woman from the main tourist office there who gave me free access to the Internet as the one at this house was not working.
This shared house was fantastic as the couple there were riding down from an area near Fribourg to Lugano and they had their own bathroom so I was free to have a relaxing bath on my second night here with music in the background – it was delightful after a day in the hills spotted with cows. I think I saw the most beautiful cow I have ever come across just down the road sitting by another one.
This family is very accommodating and they even provided fresh food for breaki each morning as Dominics mum owns the only shop in the small town – just behind the house. Fantastic! Everyone will feel welcome here.
Great place to stay in the winter, very nice skiing in Splügen. The house is comfortable, quiet, everthing you need is there. The hosts are very friendly.
Dominik and his mother were really kind and helpful.
the cabin is amazing and cosy, very well equipped and above all: the cabin's beautiful location in a tiny, yet authentic alpine village is unforgettable.
we really recommend this place to others. there are many beautiful places to see in the area as well.
Sehr gemütlich. Alles da!
