Entire private ground floor of the historic Eliza House. Handicap Accessible.
Accommodations for up 8. Upper 2 floors available for rent separately as: "Eliza House upper 2 floors", allowing for 16 people to stay. This space includes 2 bedrooms, 1 bath & Kitchenette. Grand historic home of James and Eliza Blanchard, son of Alvin Blanchard, village namesake. Interior design true to the original architecture and style of the home.

The space
The house was built by James and Eliza Blanchard, James was the son of village namesake Alvin Blanchard. We have named the house the Eliza House to honor the woman the house was built for.

The front entrance can be used, but we suggest parking in our parking lot with ample space, and a car-port. The entrance for the ground level space is under the carport. This leads to an entryway with doors that lead to the front sunny bedroom and the main living space.

The apartment retains its original woodwork and architectural style. Great care has been taken to make renovations and furnishings fit the style of the home. The large original fireplace is the focal point of the Livingroom.

There are two bedrooms, one in the back behind new French doors, with a direct entrance to a closet and the bathroom for the space. A new decorative wrought iron headboard has been created by a local craftsman for the bed. The second bedroom is on what was formerly the open porch of the house. Windows facing the south and east have recently been installed to make a light and airy room. Dual shades provide sheer or room darkening window coverings giving options for almost complete darkness or sunlight at the tops with privacy at the bottom.

We offer a small kitchenette and dining area, right along side the grand ornate wooden staircase. We have a small full sized refrigerator with a freezer, a kitchen sink with garbage disposal, a small workspace, coffee maker, toaster and microwave. Also a movable fold open buffet with workspace top. A 4 person dining table is also in the kitchen area. There is no stove or oven and no vent fan. With no vent fan or proper cooking space we request that no frying or cooking that disperses grease into the air be done. Microwave cookware is provided.

A little more history of the home. It was purchased from Eliza Blanchard after the death of James, by our great-grandparents, Hannock and Pearl. Their son Rex and his wife Francis also lived in the home. The third generation to live in the house, Tom and Kay, made big changes to the upper two floors, turning it into a showplace for their furniture and interior design business on Main Street in Blanchardville. This business closed in 1998 upon their retirement. The fourth generation of the family to live in the house is Paul (your host), who lived there prior to being married to Julie, and then the whole family lived in the house for a year while their home was under renovation. For 75 years, up until early 2017 four generations of the Saether family operated a funeral home on the lower levels of the home. As the second family to own the house and the fourth generation of our family to own the house, we wish to welcome you to enjoy the Eliza House.
