Welcome to Granpa's Farm!
-- Saturday to Saturday rental during summer
Beautiful, gracious and simple four bedroom, three bath, year-round country home, sleeps up to 9, well secluded on two woodsy acres, near beaches, lakes.
Large (40' x 10') elevated mahogany deck looks out onto trees and conservation land. Great for watching birds and the occasional wild animal (turkey, deer, fox, coyote).
Off the beaten path, away from the crowds, yet only two miles from the center of town and shopping. Our custom-built (1970) classic Cape house, ~2,100 ft2, originally was a small farm, with barn. Nestled on two well-secluded and woodsy acres along a private, dead-end country lane.
-- Kent's Point Conservation Area (200 yards), a 28-acre peninsula with a mile of waterfront, a secret little beach (foot access only) at mid to high tide, and views clear across Pleasant Bay;
-- Deeded access to a cove (200 yards), bring your canoe or kayak or rent one and have it delivered;
-- The small nonprofit Namequoit Sailing Association (200 yds, founded 1950) offers week-long sailing lessons for children! Nice view of a beautiful cover from their hilltop.
-- Crystal Lake (0.4 mi), clear as the name implies, sandy bottom, is at the beginning of our private road. An easy walk, which is convenient: the parking lot fits only eight cars.
Nearby (by bike or car):
-- Pilgrim Lake (1 mile, sandy beach, great for kids);
-- Spectacular Nauset Beach (3 mi., no traffic lights), popular with surfers, is the Cape's best ocean beach, 10 miles long and within Cape Cod National Seashore;
-- Skaket Beach (3 mi.), on the warmer waters of Cape Cod Bay, faces West, great sunsets, walk for miles on tidal flats at low tide, sandy beach, great for children.
-- Nickerson State Park (four miles), 1,900 acres of gorgeous lakes and woods with trails.
-- Cape Cod Rail Trail is a 22-mile bike trail; goes through the center of Orleans, 1.8 miles away.
Deck is an outdoor living area equipped with a large gas grill, one large and one small dining table, both with umbrellas, seating for 12, and a lounge area.
This year we will be opening a large (unimproved) recreation room in a picturesque weathered ban with ping pong table and more seating!
-- Bright kitchen is well equipped for culinary artistry. New five-burner electric stove with convection oven. New refrigerator. All cooking utensils. Dishwasher, heavy duty washing machine and dryer, and other appliances in excellent condition.
-- Dining room (seats 8)
-- Large living room with fireplace, three sofas, flat panel TV
-- Dining nook in the kitchen (seats 4)
-- Full bath with bathtub
-- Large bedroom with full/double bed and two singles, many windows and sliding doors that open onto the deck
-- Master bedroom with queen bed, en suite dressing room, and small en suite full bath with bathtub
-- Two smaller bedrooms, one with two single beds, another with a full/double brass bed
-- Third full bath with shower
High-speed WiFi internet. Outdoor shower. Air conditioning in upstairs bedrooms -- but the house stays cool by design: it's well shaded by trees, attic is well insulated and ventilated. Floor fans also provided.
Beautiful, gracious and simple setting. Warm oak floors, and lots of nice details like stained glass, tiles, beams, brick work, bay windows, a large mantelpiece, old-fashioned stove hood, and wood paneling that glows. Hand-made front door fit for a castle. Tastefully decorated.
The house is immaculate.
Forest and acres of woods and more conservation land behind our house. We are one house away from a water view, and two houses from waterfront.
The weathered barn completes the atmosphere of rural tranquility on a country lane.
Just two miles to the town center with all amenities including excellent supermarkets, boutiques and some of the best restaurants on Cape Cod.
A great place for families, artists, groups of friends and people who want to escape the crowds and be close to beaches, lakes, nature and shopping in a charming, old, small New England town settled by Pilgrims in 1693; many of their descendants still live here. Granpa's Farm has been in our family for 34 years.
Birds sing all day. A peaceful private enclave within a great town.

We had an excellent time at Granpa's Farm-- its nestled in a private street in Orleans, Cape Cod with very convenient access to great nature and water. There is a pond and inlet just stroll down the rustic street, and we also adventured to nearby beaches and lakes (highly recommend Flax Pond in Nickerson State Park). The house is spacious and sweet, with great amenities for hosting groups and cooking up a storm. We relaxed in the sunshine and woods of the terrace and the grill was clean and ready to roar. David was exceptionally prompt and informative in the booking process and was a very thoughtful and hospitable host via his communications with us. There was a beautiful arrangement of fresh flowers when we arrived and he also was amenable to pricing options for extending the stay if we needed (we ended up leaving on time). His followup call at the end of the trip was very nice. We are very grateful for the relaxation in the beautiful surroundings of his home in Cape Cod! The pricing was also very reasonable for the digs. We would book this again. Just remember to bring your own towels, bed linens, tp & shower toiletries and you are all good.
The house is in a beautiful setting. The deck at the back of the house overlooks a conservation area, full of trees, and is a lovely place to have breakfast, sit and read, or lounge and do nothing. The kitchen has more pots and pans and bowls and appliances than any house we've ever rented. The upstairs master has great light and is very peaceful. On the not so good side, the living room has lots of games, but is not a particularly inviting room to hang out in.
Thank you for the kind words, Rick! As pictured, the large, beautiful living room is equipped with two comfortable sofas, deep leather armchairs, two coffee tables, lots of good books, a large flat panel TV with cable and, yes, games. It's decorated with hand-made ship models, and there's a large fireplace with beautiful brickwork. Other guests find it a warm and inviting room, although the deck is the main attraction in summer. I'd love to know what could make the living room more inviting! I'm always keen to make improvements to meet guests' needs. Thanks again!
My family had a fantastic stay here. The house and host are exceptional. The photos to this house -- and its lovely location -- don't do justice. The house is beautiful and charming, impeccably clean, comfortable and well equipped, and it's located in a very quiet and secluded large yard full of birds and nature, with several bodies of water a short walk away, beaches nearby, and a stunning waterfront conservation area almost across the road. David was very attentive and responsive, provided lots of insider suggestions of what to do and where to go, and really cared that we enjoy our stay to the utmost. There was a hurricane when we were here and David responded immediately to have storm damage cleaned up. Highly recommended, great place for families or anybody to go and relax, and be close to nature, the sea and lakes.

I travel a lot, mostly to Europe and Latin America, for my work as a consultant to international development organizations, NGOs and businesses. I love vibrant conversation, hearing great live music, reading fascinating books and all things pleasing to the senses and intellect. Suggestions? I also contribute time to helping filmmakers and artists. Variety is the spice of my life, and I love sharing the experience of my flavorful NYC neighborhood and a house close to nature on Cape Cod as an airbnb host (please see my reviews).
