We LOVED our stay at Kohala! The house was very well equipped for time in the sun and relaxation. Several hours were spent on the lanai enjoying the gorgeous view with daily whale sightings. We would return in a heartbeat and appreciate all of the useful tips and advice from Lisa and Dani. Thank you for letting us enjoy the best of Hawaii at your lovely home!
Jan. 2014. My husband and I met up with a couple of friends for a week here and we all agreed we would definitely book with Lisa again if we ever return to the Big Island. The view was awesome. Every morning, we enjoyed coffee on the lanai and watched the whale activity -- and they were active! The house had everything we needed and nearby were a farmer's market and some good stores for necessities, fabulous take out, and snorkling equipment rentals. Lisa's wonderful assistant gave us the run-down on these local spots when we arrived. Our only trouble was with the pillows and one bed (please understand, these are individual preferences, but the four of us agreed). Pillows were all too thick and the bed in the back bedroom wasn't comfortable for us. The loft bed was good and so was the master bedroom bed. Other than that the house was perfect! We followed our stay here with two AirBnBs on Maui and as for my husband and I, we wish we'd stayed the full two weeks here at Lisa's wonderful home!
The view is spectacular, the level of comfort is perfect and we truly enjoyed every moment in it as a family of four. You can enjoy the terrace in the evening with a perfect barbeque, hammock and sunset. And if you happen to be there in October, during the Iron Men race, you can help volunteers give out drinks to these amazing racers.
Although we had a mishap at the start of our stay Lisa handled everything very professionaly and timely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house, looking at the whales frolicking in the sea below us.
Perfect house for a family with the loft and second bedroom or 2 couples. The location is quiet and the house is well stocked with all the necessary basics, including BBQ and boogie bords. It is conveniently located near some great sandy beaches (Hapuna, Spencer, Kua) yet away from the tourist resorts. Thanks Lisa for opening your house.
Communicating with Lisa was easy and pleasant. She is very responsive, friendly, and kind. Her house is spacious, bright, well equipped, with a gorgeous view of the ocean. It is quiet and private. The back lanai has really comfortable sofas and chairs to lounge in while watching the amazing sunsets and whales in the distance. The master bedroom is especially lovely...big comfy bed looking out over the ocean. There was a full moon when we were there which made late night walks really magical. During the day, the hills behind the sparsely populated development were often illuminated by a huge rainbow cloud. At first we were a little disappointed by the location---the surrounding area feels a bit desolate. And it was extremely windy. Lisa and the other home owners there must have a spent a fortune landscaping to create wind breaks and their lovely gardens. (I learned later that winter, when we were there, is the windiest time.) There's a wonderful little beach, Spencer Beach Park, about 5 minutes drive from the house. And there are three restaurants we enjoyed not far from that beach. We also enjoyed three other beaches with good snorkeling within 20 minutes drive of the house. After we adjusted to the stark landscape and wind, we relaxed into the amazing view of the ocean and really enjoyed being in Lisa's comfy, user-friendly, family-feeling home. And it was a good base from which to explore the western side of the Big Island.
