At-home coffee

Start your morning right with the french press.
Adventurers, you won’t forget the peaceful surroundings of this off grid rustic, 3 season campsite in the woods. Camp is designed to help immerse you in nature, and is tucked deep within the woods.

Warm up inside with a wood stove fire & brew coffee, roasted at the farm. Finish your day with a nice hot sauna.

A little romantic spot for couples to slow down and reconnect with each other.

Wifi is available by the house if needed. Camp has a tent outhouse with a portable toilet

The space
Step back in time with us to reconnect with nature and each other. Camp is a furnished 4 season 14x16 tent on a platform deck, designed for year round semi-primitive, disconnection camping. The site is off grid. While water is provided, there is no running water or electricity. However, solar lights and candles illuminate camp in an indescribable way. While you have 8 wooded acres to utilize, Camp has a little outhouse with a portable toilet as well, and closer to parking, there is an outdoor shower with access to water.

Parking is about 100 yards from Camp and a wagon is provided to haul your things.

Dogs are always welcome at Camp and many dogs find Camp to be their own personal paradise as well. We simply ask they are not left unattended.

The tent itself is very well equipped for cooking and comfort. With a full-size bed, and two comfortable chairs to relax inside, deck chairs outside and binoculars offer a closer look to our beautiful gentle wildlife that freely passes thru.

We have kitchen essentials, including pots/pans, dishes, utensils, towels, basic cooking items, a tea kettle, french press, coffee and tea. You can cook on the woodstove, however we've added a little charcoal grill and camp size propane stove for a little convenience.

Our wood stove keeps the tent nice and cozy on the cooler nights or just for a little ambiance. Wood is supplied for heat in winter when temps are below freezing. And we always have a little bundle for guests who want a nice sauna or to use in the stove. If you'd like to have a fire going all night outside in the firepit, wood available pretty much everywhere in town.

Camp has a private barrel sauna with detailed instructions. Robes, towels, and a little camp/sauna shower is provided as well.

We are 15 minutes from town and less than a mile to North Canal Township Park (aka Lake Superior Breakers Beach) which sits directly across the canal from McLain State Park.

Our location is an ideal spot for stargazing, with no light pollution. The public beach at the end of the road (1 mile) is well frequented for sunsets and viewing meteor showers and northern lights. If you hear traffic late at night, that's a good sign something good is happening and should perhaps look outside.

Guest access
You’ll have about 8 acres of private space. Mostly surrounded by trees with an abundance of wildlife, it’s a human and dogs paradise, we happily welcome all companions while encouraging guests to be mindful of nature, especially with very young or small dogs.

Other things to note
You can easily walk to Lake Superior from the house/camp. A beautiful mile walk or ride down the road takes you to a beautiful beach perfect for sunsets, stargazing and catching northern lights. We provide two sets of snowshoes during your stay to enjoy around the property, if needed to hike to camp, and if you’re up for hitting the trails in town.

Jason and I moved to Houghton in 2017. We bought our farm in 2018 and have been caretakers for many different animals ever since. We’d like to share our peaceful place with likeminded explorers, and hope those who visit experience something special. We have 2 spots. Our apartment is an attached unit with a private entrance, and our camp is an off grid site at the back of our property.
