I am so happy to have booked Stuart's place. He is the most wonderful host but more importantly he is an incredible ambassador for this part of Guatemala. It would be easy to arrive in Livingston and see it as just anorher Caribbean town in need of a little attention but Stuart will make you a delicious Tapado, Tropical Smoothie, Mojito and fresh Snapper and tell you why Livingston is worth getting to know a bit better.
Stuart put us in touch with Felipe a Garifuna elder who showed us "the real Livingston" and told us about the rich history of his culture. Stuart made special food for our two picky American teenager eaters and they were very upset that we had to leave. Our 13 year old thought that Stuart's Hawaiian Pizza, with pineapple much better than he had ever tasted, was the "end all and be all of excellent cuisine", and I must say that all of us agreed it was divine.
We cannot thank Stuart enough for his hospitality, for his helpfulness and for his excellent cooking.
Our room at Casa Nostra was pretty basic, no frills. However that didn't matter so much. Stuart's hospitality was top notch. Also, Stuart and his wife make some amazing food. Without a doubt the best pizza and breakfast I have eaten in Guatemala!! Thanks Casa Nostra, see you next time.
Stuart stands out amongst the rest. He was outstanding and timely with his communication prior to our arrival, answering any questions and making sure we knew how to get to his place. He and his wife make you feel right at home (a nice restaurant/house off the docks of Livingston). Stuart goes above and beyond to take care of all your needs - giving recommendations for places to go around town or restaurants to try. Speaking of food, Stuart and his wife offer arguably the most delicious, reasonably priced food and drinks in town. Try the mojitos and tapado! If you are looking for the friendliest of hosts and a easy going stay with great value look no further Stuart and Casa Nostra.
Stuart was welcoming and helped me with logistics for the next leg of my travels.
The room was clean with fresh cut ginger flowers in a vase on the bedside table.
There wasn't much air flow in the room, but a fan was provided, and the price reflects this aspect.
Had a great stay Casa Nostra. Stuart was extremely helpful and provided a very personal experience. The place is well-located, only a short walk from town and right on the water. Definitely have dinner at Casa Nostra, food and cocktails were delicious and we had a lovely night under the fairy lights. Was also a great way to meet other young travellers because a lot of the backpackers from Iguana had dinner at Casa Nostra. Though we're very glad to have stayed with Stuart because it meant that we got a great night's sleep as opposed to being stuck in a party hostel. Our room was also great because it had a strong fan that we could run all night. Only thing I could fault about Casa Nostra is that there is only one bathroom that includes the shower and toilet. We were fortunate enough to be the only ones staying, if there were other guests as well I'd imagine that the bathroom situation would get quite challenging.
But overall, a sweet little place! Thanks Stuart!
Ex banker, moved to Livingston 3.5 years ago from Arizona. I married a Guatemalan, Soledad and we opened our bed and breakfast in a great location. I buy my shrimp, calamari and fish from the boats docked off our back dock. We only use really fresh ingredients and are proud of our food and accomodations. We have 3 bedrooms and can accomodate up to 8 guests. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing and we can help you get the most out of your trip to Guatemala. I can help arrange Kayaking, boat tours, walking tours, fishing trips, snorkeling trips to the Cayos of Southern Belize or if you are a boater you can rent your own boat.
This is not the Taj mahal but it is our home and is very clean and comfortable. Anything you want, please just ask. We are known for our food so if you love great food I would love to have you.
