Livingston was our first stop in Guatemala. Stuart´s profile was very thorough- to the point that we changed our trip plans to stay longer!
For starters, a helpful tip is to not forget to ask Stuart for the name and address! There, saved you an extra 20 minutes of wandering around trying to describe to people the one white guy on the island. Haha!
Once we arrived, Stuart was very welcoming. His home is beautiful and instantly relaxing. When we arrived, he was in the middle of getting a pizza and tapado ready- both of which you MUST try.
A word about the food. We learned the hard way that most of the tourist-y spots for eating are not great. We spent a week being disappointed with the mainstream fare (save for the two ladies at the front of the main dock and further down la Calle Principal grilling deliciousness). Stuart was so helpful coordinating taxis, trips, and other tips, but if only he weren´t so modest about his food! Eat at least two of your meals there and save yourself some real heartache- and a stomachache, too.
Our room was comfortable, with a good strong fan to cool off the Caribbean heat. The outside area is gorgeous. And Stuart was always on hand to help! Great guy, great place, great experience.
Cannot say enough about what a great place this was. Small but quaint, perfect walking distance to the boats, markets, and restaurants. Stewart was so helpful and understanding with everything would be back in a heartbeat. Be sure to eat there as his pizza and tapodo are amazing!!
Stuart is a great guy and gave us a lot of tips about Livingston. Food was also very nice. Great place for a nigh's stay.
Stuart is a wonderful cook, works very hard! Always helpful with advice :) This is the best value for your money, it's unbelievable! And Livingston is a great place to get a break from it all!
My family and I had a great time in Livingston. Stuart and his wife Solidad were great hosts! We were curious about local history so they got us connected with one of the Garifuna elders. This elder gave us a tour of town and shared an oral history of the area. Stuart also helped us make arrangements for a kayak trip though the Rio Dulce Canyon and a day trip up the coastline to a small river with some beautiful water falls. Other reviewers have mentioned things about the great food that they can provide; I'll add that they are also very accommodating for guests who have some dietary restrictions. Solidad's traditional Tapado soup and banana milkshakes were fantastic!
My stay with Stuart was the highlight of my visit to Guatemala. Stuart takes a personal interest in all his guests whether they are staying there or just visiting his restaurant. The food at his restaurant is excellent. I recommend his seafood and his thin crust pizza. Stuart either cooks the food himself or oversees the preparation of the food. I mentioned that I was on a low carb diet and from that point on, everything Stuart cooked for me was prepared with that in mind. His beer is ice cold. His mixed drinks are the best in Livingston. My stay was a great experience.
Staying with Stuart was the best decision! He goes above and beyond for his guests to make sure they're comfortable, and happy. He also is a really great help if seeking information and advice about future destinations and around Livingston! His guesthouse and rooms were clean, safe and comfortable. You have to try his pizza, but I'm still thinking about his off menu breaded shark appetizer! Thank you so much Stuart!
Stuart was soooo helpful- both before and during our stay. He was patient, informative and quick to respond to our many emails. We stayed w him briefly; but enjoyed both our room and the delicious food he served on his back patio that was literally on the water. We would stay with him again and hope to visit again as he is an interesting, kind person.
This place is magic! And so is the food that Stuart and his lovely wife are cooking for you if you want. I would say that this is the only place where you can find great pizza as well as tasty local seafood.
Stuart who runs the place is such a great and helpful person!
I would definitely recommend this place!
What you see is what you get...a unique river-front location with access to all of Livingston, and great food. Stuart is the perfect host and the family atmosphere adds to the pleasure of this particular place. I don't think there's a better overall location in town. I will certainly stay here again in the future.
