Guest Access

Guests have access to kitchen, TV/family room, living room, dining room, back deck and yard, laundry facilities, linens, parking passes, bikes.

Interaction with Guests

We take our interaction cues from our guests. Some are more private than others and we respond accordingly. We appreciate knowing if a guest is coming or going when we hear the front door open, I've only had one guest not say hello or goodbye upon entering or leaving.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is very urban and eclectic. We like the diversity this brings to our restaurants and the food offered in our grocery stores. There is a wonderful Thai grocery across from Safeway. And there are Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Thai and Burmese restaurants all within walking distance. We are also walking distance to a tranquil woodsy park with a lovely hike/bike/jog trail along a creek.

Getting around

We are a mile from 2 Metro stations and one-half block from a bus stop. Also the neighborhood is very bike/walkable. If you want to grab dinner, a movie or meet friends after work or sightseeing in DC, take the Metro to the Silver Spring Station. If you want to unwind or decompress, get off at the Takoma Station (also cheaper from DC) and enjoy walking along the residential, tree-lined street back to our house.

Other Things to Note

We have had great guests and there are many we have truly missed after a long-term stay. We recently posted a world map to plot the origins of our guests and have had representation from every continent except Antarctica. We can honestly say we don't just do this for the extra income. We like sharing our home and we want you to be comfortable and enjoy your visit.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Gail and Danny were excellent hosts. They are friendly but not intrusive and were quite easy to work with and flexible. The house is about a 15 minute walk to the AIRP theatre and there are many restaurants nearby. All in all, a great place to stay while at AIRP.

  • Gail and Danny were great! Their home is conveniently located close to the AFI theatre, about 15 minutes walking distance and great for AIRP attendees. Very welcoming and helpful, both Gail and Danny gave my fiance and I rides to downtown and the train station when able. The room has everything you need, the bedroom has a small desk for studying, the bed is comfortable and empty drawers and closet are available. There is an adorable living room with fire place as well. Gail made terrific banana bread and muffins and provided bagels and bananas for breakfast. Fresh coffee was available every morning. Overall a wonderful experience for a home away from home. Highly recommended!

  • Gail and Danny were great hosts! I really didn't spend much time at the house, but the room was nice and the neighborhood was quiet and close to everything I needed. Gail even picked me up at the Metro station! All in all a very pleasant experience.

  • I really enjoyed 4-weeks staying with Gail and Danny at their lovely house. They were very accommodating. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The location is very good for 10-minutes walking to downtown of Silver Spring and free street parking. Good scone, banana cake and chocolate cookie Gail made, very impressive sailing with their great boat, fire place in lovely garden, Danny's great photo studio, very comfortable living room, friendly cats. All of them were my irreplaceable memories. I would highly recommend staying here.

  • I had an excellent experience staying at Gail and Danny's home. They are great hostes and at their place you're feeling like you would be at your own home. I was there for 4 weeks for participating to an AIRP course. Their home is just 15 min walk from the AIRP course location, just perfect for a morning walk.Downtown Silver Spring is about 10 minutes walk. By staying at their place you're feling less tourists and more as a local.I like this feeling. They are very nice and welcoming. Gail and Danny they even invited me and an other guest to go sailing with them in the Cheasapeake By where their sailboat is parked. It s a wonderfull day. Maybe one day I'll get back at their place with my fiancee for a sailing internship with Danny and Gail :). They will help you with everything you need during your stay. i remmend their place for staying .

  • Many thanks to Gail and Danny for providing such lovely and warm room. They are very nice and easygoing people, helping us to star a new life in a strange country. They let us share breakfast and use their bikes to go to find housing. They also provided many suggestions for us to resolve problems. It was much better to stay here than in a hotel. We really enjoyed this experience. Thank you again!

  • I had a lovely stay with Danny and Gail. They were friendly and accommodating. It is so great to stay in a home as opposed to a hotel. Their house is lovely surrounded by big old trees in a quiet neighborhood. I highly recommend this airbnb.

  • Having spent the whole summer with Gail & Danny (May - September) I can say that this was the nicest (and longest) stay away from home I have ever had. 4.5 months. Everything was clean, extra towels, sheets, etc. were always available, as was the use of the washer/dryer in the basement, space in the kitchen cabinet (and fridge) for my goodies. Gail and Danny's son and daughter would occasionally drop home from college, providing another couple of fun people to talk with.

As hosts, Gail and Danny go out of their way to help in any way they can to make you feel at home. I have borrowed an umbrella, rode their bikes that Danny has on hand, (complete with cable & locks), been offered a rain jacket (which I never considered bringing) for messy days, and even an extra pair of sneakers for the last week I was there after I packed up all my stuff (including my sneaks) to send home. Gail often makes fresh muffins for in the morning, has fruit on hand, different juices.. how nice is that?

On the occasion that my wife came to visit, Gail & Danny were warm and welcoming to her as well. After a while I felt like part of the household. I fed their two kitties every morning (I was first up in the house, usually by 5:30) and fed the fish in my bedroom as well. The tank had a gurgler to aerate the tank that was the perfect sleep machine... it would send me off to sleep. Danny said I could unplug it at night if I wanted, but I enjoyed it and grew used to it quickly.

It's a nice house on a nice street (totally safe area) with a big back yard complete with a huge hammock. A 15 minute walk will take you to your choice of two Metro stops. One being the last stop in DC, the other being the first stop in Maryland. I went one way for a pleasant walk, and rode to the next stop when I wanted to hit either the Safeway, Whole Foods, City Sports, or another place along the way home. I left my vehicle in Oklahoma, and didn't pump a drop of gas for 4.5 months and never missed it. (Okay, I rented a car once, also within walking distance, to drive to West Virginia one weekend.)

All in all, I had a great stay, and will stay with Gail and Danny again if/when I return to the area and they are not booked up. There's tons to do in the area within walking distance... movies, Men's Warehouse, Frozen Yogurt, lots of great restaurants, (try Charm Thai, the best!) and a plaza where they have free concerts all summer long. In the winter I hear it's an ice skating rink! If you stay with them, please tell Mac & Cheese (their kitties) "Hi from Les." Highly recommended, a great stay.

  • A wonderful stay! Very comfortable home. Gail made muffins one morning that were delicious. Her generosity extended to her buying some Greek yougurt that I like.........totally unnecessary but wonderfully accepted! The moment I arrived she helped me with directions I needed to the Metro. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • My stay with Gail and Danny was my first time using Airbnb and I could not have asked for a better experience. The house is spacious, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect. As mentioned in other reviews, the house is walking distance from both the Silver Spring and Tacoma Park metro. It is also very convenient to two grocery stores, many restaurants, and the business center of Silver Spring. Gail and Danny are very accommodating hosts. Gail checked to be sure that what I liked to eat for breakfast was available, and had space in the refrigerator for fruit or other snacks if I needed it. As I was out and about for much of the day, it was fun to have a place to “come home to” and discuss what I had been doing at the end of the day. As long as my son continues to live in Silver Spring, I hope that there will be a room available for me at the Pecks’ when I come to visit.
