About this listing
If you want to visit New York and experience Downtown this is the perfect place. It is in the hottest spot of Soho. The apartment is facing a garden so it is really nice it used to be a Restaurant, right now it is empty but that might change again - in that case there will be activity until 11 pm at weekdays and midnight on weekends. Once you walk down (there is no elevator) two flights you are in the middle of the best bars, shopping, galleries, clubs and interesting international people. The apartment is in Soho with the best shopping possibilities you can imagine but it is also close to China Town and Lower East Side. There you find more eclectic small shops and bars. The New Museum is steps away. The apartment is ideal for 2 guests (but can sleep up to 4 with a sofa bed) it has a fully equipped kitchen and a small bathroom with bathtub, Air Condition and wireless internet. My wife is a interior architect, she did a great job renovating it however it is by no means a 5 Start Hotel but a private apartment in a old building please consider this. The art on the walls are originals from my Gallery. All major Subways are close. The green line is right around the corner - the blue line is a few blocks on Spring Street and the red and Orange lines are on Canal Street. Cafe Select and La Esquina are two hotspots of Downtown NY - both bars are opposite side of our building. As I said the perfect spot for a fun NYC experience. Feel at home in NYC.
The apartment is newly renovated please respect it and treat it like your own. No major parties. Ideally 2 people maximum 4 guests.
Staying at Arne's Soho place was lovely! I found the listing on late notice after learning that I needed to be out of my New York host's apartment for 8 days and he worked around my schedule--responding almost immediately and even biking over to where I work to give me the keys.
The area was ideal for exploring a new (to me) part of the city, with neighboring Chinatown and Little Italy, plus Soho's shopping district, just a short walk away. And the place suits two perfectly, which worked out well with my boyfriend visiting for the holiday weekend (at no extra charge). Bed is very comfy, rooms were tidy, and kitchen came stocked with a full set of dishes, including a wine decanter. I did have some trouble with the stove and the kitchenette isn't built for cooking big meals...but that wasn't what I was there for anyway.
My only other issue involved the locks. First, I noticed that neither of the windows' worked; however, I texted Arne and he had a handyman there by noon the next day. And then towards the end of my stay, the automated padlock on the apartment door ran out of batteries. But Arne came by as soon as he could the next day, right after 4th of July weekend, and fixed it.
This apartment is ideal for those looking for more than a hotel room in a well-situated part of Manhattan. Highly recommend!
Arne was a great host. I reserved the day we needed the apartment and he made it happen. He met us there and took one of our heavy suitcases upstairs for us.. but the 2nd floor walk up is easy.
The apartment is neat and very clean and bright with the most beautiful view onto the two bricked gardens below, one hung with colored lamps in the evening.. You don't hear a sound from the street and it feels like the countryside with sunshine and greenery. We slept very well int he comfortable bed and the internet worked perfectly. The location is marvelous if SOHO is where you want to be.. and who wouldn't want to be there? There is a great breakfast spot across the street called Jack's Wife Freda that I highly recommend if you're not into getting coffee on the run… We LOVED this PERFECT AirBnB address and Highly recommend it. I will certainly be back and next time I'll reserve it ahead of time! Thanks Arne!
We enjoyed our stay at Arne's apartment in Soho. Great location close to good restaurants, transportation and sightseeing.
Arne was honest, friendly and helpful in our communication. The apartment is small, particularly the bathroom, and a little rough around the edges but pleasant. Arne was upfront about this when we wondered if our family of four would work in the apartment. Tight but cozy and worked fine at a reasonable cost.
Arne was very accommodating. The apartment was clean and we enjoyed our stay.
Great apartment! Arne was there to meet us when we arrived and provided an excellent tip about a taco place down the street from the apartment, as well as the wifi password. The location of the apartment could not be better--walkable to many things and right on the 6 subway line. The apartment was very clean and surprisingly quiet--it faces onto a courtyard. The sofa bed was comfortable and my friend had no complaints about the double bed. The linens, pillows, and towels were fresh. My only caution is that this would be a pretty tight squeeze for four adults. We were two single people and it worked out great, or it would be good for a couple and one child. We had an excellent time. Thanks, Arne!
Arne was a really nice host. Him and his family were very kind and welcoming. The apartment was a bit outdated for the price and needed a few repairs. The place is quite old and shows it's age. However, it was relatively clean and had all of the necessities that were needed. The location was great for us.
The description of the apartment was perfect, it is not so large for three, but the host told us this before the booking. But at all it was enough place for us three. The cleaning lady greeted us, because the host could not be there, but he was always available at the telephone.

About the Host, Arne
I am German but at the same time a New Yorker after living more then 10 years here. I am married with Kathie and we have two small daughters - which keep us busy. I do own Pablo's Birthday Gallery (Gallery for Contemporary Art) in NYC which is in my opinion the most exciting city in the world.
