Room faces a busy street, so you will hear some street noise. Fruitvale is an eclectic area of Oakland. There is a huge Mexican influence but it is also very diverse. If you are looking for a comfortable room to relax in at the end of your day, this space is right for you. If you are looking for a super hip and trendy area and San Francisco to be right outside, this may not be your best option.
Off street and gated parking for a small or mid-sized car or motorcylcles (free street parking for larger vehicles/SUVs). Kitchen/livingroom access. Charming back yard. 5 minute walk to huge Mexican grocery store.
Interaction with Guests
I work full time, and keep fairly busy, but I am always happy to chat when I'm cooking in the kitchen, and usually won't turn down a walk to the market or to get a taco down the street.
The neighborhood is diverse and eclectic. This is a lower-income, working class area - so expect extremely inexpensive mexican dining and taco trucks. The nearest Supermarket is only a few blocks away. The nearest Cafes are near the BART station (15 minute walk). Two Mammas Cafe is all-vegan and serves Sunday Brunch.
Fruitvale BART (1 mile/15 minutes)
-The 14 bus line stops right outside
-Supermarkets, taquerias, dry cleaning, 24 hour 7-11, shops, park w/basketball courts.
Less than 10 minute drive to:
-Alameda (Nightlife, dining, beach, etc)
-San Leandro/Castro Valley
Other Things to Note

Now this is a really nice place. I stayed at Michelle's lovely house for two weeks and everthing was perfect. The listing's description is very accurate and the amenities are excellent. Michelle is easy to talk to and made me feel welcome.
Really enjoyed my stay here. It was just the type of space I needed to unwind at the end of long days in the midst of a transition to a new apartment. Michelle was super nice and we got the chance to chat from time to time. I felt comfortable and welcomed and used the kitchen quite a bit while I was there. Also, the tub/shower is awesome and the backyard is a really nice touch. Thanks again, Michelle!
Michelle was a great host. She was very accomodating to my arrival time. I got in later than the time that I had planned and she was fine with it. The gated parking off the street is a plus. The bedroom and bed were comfortable as decribed and pictured. The bedroom faces a busy street but wasn't so bad during the night. I was able to get great nights of sleep. I really enjoyed my stay and appreciate that Michelle opened her home to me.
I enjoyed my stay in Oakland. The place is close to the BART station so it was easy to go downtown or to San Francisco. The house was very quiet and friendly.
About the Host, Michelle
Hey there, I'm 35 and have had great experiences using AirBnB!
I love to garden, cook, hike, attend yoga, ride my motorcycle, and share dinner with friends. I'm a healthy eater, believe in sustainability, and am pretty low key. I'm mostly vegan, but you don't have to be; I do it for health and will not be offended!
I look forward to meeting you for your short-term, affordable stay in the Bay Area, and am not looking for a long term tenant at the present time.
$5 Medium Pepperoni Pizza.
Follow the green spots on the map on Courtland for a pretty 4 block walk to a beautiful wooded area with a little creek!
Closest walk. Sit-down restaurant for Mexican Food or breakfast. The music can be quite loud, but the food is good and inexpensive. Portions are large. Daily menu specials.
Old Jewish Cemetery. Nice for about a mile round trip walk from the house. Longer if you do a loop inside the cemetery.
Walkable. Has lots of Latin-American food items and is cheap! Try the salsa bar. Also, the Churro guy is out front until 8pm, and the plain churros are vegan.
A beautiful little Carnegie Library. They let you borrow books!
Walkable. Good, basic, sit-down mexican food. Serves American Breakfast too.
If you can't find what you're looking for at Mi Pueblo, try Smart & Final. It's also on the walk home from BART.
Several businesses, including the "Roll Up Bike Shop" (Sells Used Bicycles) and the Vulcan Thai Cafe, which feels like it's in someone's livingroom.
All-vegan menu. Sunday Brunch. French Press coffee.
Cute little park with swings. I like to walk through here after the creek and before the Cemetery when I'm doing a neighborhood walk.
BART is the train that will take you to San Francisco, Berkeley, Richmond, etc.
Vegan refried beans, homemade tortillas, and sustainable meats. Try the veggie taco; it's amazing!
Cafe with Beignets.
An Oakland Tradition for ribs and bbq.
Walkable - if 1.5 miles is within your range. Great little breakfast spot. Try the hash!
Good coffee, and also it turns into a wine bar at night.
Smaller Sized market with lots of whole foods, Organic Produce, etc.
Opens at 4am. It's not a walk, but a short drive.
Very Cheap. Not a lot of organic or finer foods. If you have a car, this might be a good spot for you to stock up.
You may just be a student at mills college.
Great organic and sustainable foods.
Closest place for wood-fired pizza. It's a drive or about a 4 mile bike ride. You can also take a bus to Alameda. There's lots of shops and other restaurants.
Mom and Pop business. In a sketchy part of town and they buzz you in. Open noon-7pm. Super cheap, super authentic Indian food. The best and closest spot to get Indian take-out if you drive.
Closest Movie theater; in a nice, walkable area with many restaurants.
About a 3.2 mile loop around the center of Oakland. Scenic. Lots of restaurants and walkable areas. along the outskirts.
Nice walk along the beach!
