The space

Our home has a great room with tall ceilings, a nice porch. It is a two bedroom area, but we are only renting one of the bedrooms, the master. The child's bedroom will be closed for your visit. Beautiful hardwoods and cork flooring. A small but very sweet backyard. Lots of children's books and a nice adult library as well! We have a King size bed in our bedroom. In our great room one of the couches converts to a double bed. It is the style that just lays flat, not the type that hides a (squishy) mattress. A washer and dryer. We use organic cleaners and filter all the water, even the bath water.

Guest access

We are very close to Maple Street and also Oak Street, with famous restaurants and the Maple Leaf, a famous music hall. Also nice clothing and book shops etc. We are also walkable to Audubon Park, the Zoo, the Mississippi River, and the Mardi Gras Uptown parades. We have a small but nice backyard with a deck that is accessible and private. There is an outdoor shower on the deck. Our neighborhood hosts MidSummer Mardi Gras in August and is also a great place to stay if you are coming to town for SatchmoFest.

Interaction with guests

We will be away during this time, but our housekeeper will be here upstairs, if you need anything, or if you want extra cleanings. We will also be available by phone and email anytime you need advice/assistance.

The neighborhood

Our neighborhood is in such a great location, so close to it all, yet manages to have such a mellow low-key feel. We have great restaurants and shops, yet also tons of trees and yard gardens. It is truly beautiful to walk this area and as long as we have lived here, it never gets boring. The seasons, the flowers, the lovely homes, the feeling of this place, is very special. It is a very real part of the quiet beautiful understory that makes the art and music of New Orleans come to life. I sometimes say our area feels like a great big piece of the country squashed into a small space. We have a the River, nature, relaxed friendly people and a slow feeling.

Getting around

We are very close to the street car, and busses. We are also easy access on main roads to mid city, downtown, or Metairie. You can park for free and usually easily in front of our house. Just make sure you park in same direction as the traffic flow! And don't block the church.

Other things to note

There is a wonderful Baptist church nearby, the oldest "free church of color" in this whole area. If you are here on a Sunday, you can hear wonderful singing from our porch.
We have central air and heat in the bedrooms, and a large window unit for both up front.

House Rules
House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
Check-in is after 3PM

We are opening our family home to you as our guests. We expect you to treat the house with respect. No smoking at all. No parties. If you want to bring a pet, please talk with us about it first.
Also keep in mind that this is our family home. We are raising a young child here. It is not an empty hotel room. So our belongings will still be here. Please feel free to enjoy anything you find in the kitchen or rest of the home, respectfully.
If you use a few beans and rice or some olive oil or soy sauce, that's all good. If you use whole bottles of things, or go through the frozen goods in the freezer, then please replace. Moderate sharing of our kitchen supplies we welcome!

We are a family -- a married couple and daughter -- who live in New Orleans. We are creative and eco-conscious. We are conscientious in any space we inhabit. Even in chain hotels, we tend to clean up after ourselves...Thank you.
