Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Red Gate Cottage is a thoughtfully appointed 3-bedroom, 3-bath home overlooking the French Broad River, just 15 minutes from Hot Springs along a picturesque mountain road. This newer-built retreat offers river views from nearly every room, three private porches, a well stocked kitchen, firepit, high-speed Wi-Fi, and the rare comfort of a private bath for each bedroom. A very comfortable home base with close access to the river, beautiful trails, the mineral springs, and nearby mountain towns.

The space
Red Gate Cottage is a thoughtfully designed river-view home just outside Hot Springs, NC. Completed in 2020, the house was carefully positioned to take full advantage of the surrounding landscape, with views of the French Broad River from nearly every main room and beautiful sunsets over the water and mountains.

The home blends modern comfort with vintage character, featuring a collection of antiques and family pieces gathered over the years. Quiet spaces to read, gather, or simply enjoy the view can be found throughout the property.

Entry

A stone path through the gardens leads from the parking area to the front entrance. Guests enjoy convenient self check-in with a keypad lock.

Kitchen

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and gathering, with modern appliances, cookware, dishware, utensils, a drip coffee maker, and an electric tea kettle. Coffee, sugar, and a small selection of basic spices are also provided.

Main-Level Bedroom & Bath

The downstairs bedroom features a queen bed, abundant natural light, and a private screened porch overlooking the river. The ensuite bathroom includes a soaking tub and custom walk-in shower.

Upstairs Bedroom & Bath

Twin Loft Bedroom & Bath

At the top of the stairs is a spacious loft-style bedroom with two extra-long twin beds, a writing desk, and river views. This room also includes a private ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. Please note this space is partially open to the stairway and connected by a doorway to the upstairs queen bedroom.

Outdoor Spaces

The outdoor living areas were crafted using local stone and designed to make the most of the setting. Enjoy evenings around the firepit, morning coffee on one of three porches, or sunsets overlooking the river.

Guests often spot wildlife throughout the day, including bald eagles, great blue herons, and Canada geese moving along the river corridor.

For quieter moments, the cottage includes comfortable reading areas, puzzles, games, a small library, and a writing desk with river views.

While the setting feels peaceful and removed, modern conveniences are available throughout the home, including high-speed Wi-Fi, Roku TV, Wi-Fi calling capability for cell phones, and a landline.

Please review these important details for your stay:

• Access Road: The cottage is accessed via a few miles of a gravel road. It is well-maintained, but please drive with care.
• Connectivity: Due to the rural location, cell service can be spotty. Your cell phone will work perfectly when the “Wi-Fi calling” setting is enabled on your device. A landline phone is also available in the cottage for your use.
• Fishing: For guests interested in fishing in the nearby Paint Creek corridor, a Tennessee fishing license is required.

Guest access
Guests will have private access to the entire home and its amenities for an uninterrupted stay. This includes all three bedrooms, three bathrooms, the kitchen, living areas, and three porches. For your convenience, a keypad has been installed on the entry door for easy, keyless self-check-in. The house is fully stocked with linens, towels, paper products, dish soap, bath soap, trash bags, and coffee filters.

The cottage has parking for 2-3 cars along the left side of the home.

River Road can be accessed by car, bike, or foot with spots to fish and get in for a dip in the Paint Creek corridor just down the road.

Other things to note
What does the area offer that will tempt you to leave your cottage with river views?

The French Broad River offers opportunities to raft with a guide, rent an inflatable kayak, or canoe or kayak on your own. There are various put-in points and take-outs close by at Murray's Branch and Paint Rock.

The picturesque Paint Rock corridor is just a mile down river past the cottage. This area is full of possibilities for hiking, picnicking by the creek, biking, swimming, or fishing (TN license required). A beautiful waterfall called Dudley Falls is a few miles up the Paint Creek Road.

The cottage is just fifteen minutes from the charming town of Hot Springs, where there are restaurants, a new brewery and a small grocery store. Hot Springs has been famous for its healing mineral springs for over a century. The current spa with hot tubs by Spring Creek and the French Broad was opened in 1998.

There are plenty of hiking opportunities on numerous trails and Forest Service roads. The beautiful Laurel River trail is only a few miles away, and the Appalachian Trail goes right through Hot Springs. You will find it to be a great home base for exploring other hiking areas in the mountains of Madison County and beyond.

About forty minutes away is the historic town of Marshall, NC, with a lively arts and music scene and some interesting restaurants. If you are coming from Asheville, take the opportunity to stock up at the Ingles grocery, gas station, and pharmacy on the Marshall bypass.

For those willing to explore excellent local cuisine, head to Asheville, known as a foodie's paradise. There is also the famous Biltmore Estate, the NC arboretum, and several spots to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

And you don't even have to drive anywhere to enjoy a walk or bike ride down River Road and nearby hikes just off of the road into national forest.

Details about more hiking, fishing, and other activities will be provided in a notebook at Red Gate Cottage.
