Experience the weekly market where you can discover local produce such as foie gras, truffles, confit de canard, oysters, and many famous French wines including Monbazillac, Duras and St Emilion to name but a few.
Further afield, Bordeaux, Agen, Perigueux and many other places of interest, in the Lot, Garonne,and Dordogne valleys are all accessible day trips. The Atlantic coast is 11/2 hrs away with the beautiful sea-side resorts of Arcachon, Biscarrosse and Biarritz.
South West France is an outstandingly beautiful place for walking. Le Pontet is ideally situated between the Lot, Garonne and the Dordogne valleys, as well as being close to towns and cities with beautiful architecture and history.
For the Fishing enthusiasts, Trout, carnivorous fish, carp, whitefish and migratory fish are all to be found in the Lot, in fact there are officially 20 varieties of fish swimming around in the Lot. In addition, there are some foreign invaders in the shape of American crayfish (which must be killed on the spot), but as they are excellent eating this causes little concern to the French angler. The native crayfish is a protected species.
Try a relaxing days fishing on the river Dropt where you could catch, Bream, Carp, Cat Fish, Perch, Pike Trout, and Zander whilst enjoying all the local wildlife around you. The local Anglers Federation publishes a comprehensive booklet each year on the rivers, the rules for the catch and the different season’s for different species.
If Classic Cars float your boat, then why not incorporate your visit to us with a day or two, attending one of the many Classic Car exhibitions in the Aquitaine region. Marmande has an annual ralley as does Bergerac.
