The Woodshed Lodge is the closest independent lodging to Jay Peak. We are a 6-room bed and breakfast, with a unique and authentically rustic charm, set back off the road on 25 acres of quiet woods. Aside from proximity to the mountain, our guests enjoy the outdoor hot tub, the large back yard with a stream-fed pond, the banquet/dining room for gatherings, and a cozy, family vibe. Oh, and breakfast! This listing is for the entire Lodge (private group), with innkeeper/cook onsite, for <20 guests.

The space
The Lodge is a unique property with a 120 year legacy. After originally hosting the lumberjacks that came to this area for timber work in the early 1900's, the Lodge was converted to a more traditional bed & breakfast model in the 50's to host skiers who traveled to the (then) up and coming Jay Peak ski area. The three owners since have continuously added on and upgraded the structure with modern comforts and amenities, but were always careful to retain the historic charm which is so unique and rare these days. We now host nightly guests, private groups, and events year round and pride ourselves on offering a clean, quiet setting, friendly service with a focus on GOOD FOOD, and a laidback, family campground-style ambience. If you’re the type that enjoys a step back in time with like-minded souls, come see us at the Woodshed!

Modern and luxurious, we are not. But what we lack in state of the art modernity, we make up for with a heavy dose of charm and ambiance, above-average food (compared to our competition), clean and comfortable rooms and beds, and laid back service with a smile. Five of our six guest rooms feature private, attached bathrooms. The sixth also has a private bathroom but it is detached (across the hall). All bathrooms have stall-showers, and one of them features a jacuzzi tub. All bedrooms have a queen bed, and three of them also include x2 additional single beds. Assuming all beds are full, we can host up to 18 guests. There are also a couple of fold out cots for smaller humans and we may be able to stretch to 20 p, depending. Downstairs there is a large, rustic kitchen, an amazing dining/banquet room with five large dining tables, wood stove, breakfast bar, sink station, and a refrigerator. There are also two common sitting areas (living rooms), one with a smart TV & DVD player.

*Please note that the main kitchen is part of the innkeeper's personal space, where she cooks for herself and for the guests. As such, guests will NOT have access to the main kitchen - although they are welcome to use the efficiency kitchen in the dining room (full fridge/freezer, hot plate, kettle, toaster, microwave, sink). By request, the innkeeper may agree to allow occasional use of the oven/stove in the main kitchen to heat up food, and occasionally (for additional $ and by advance request only) may offer to prepare family-style dinner for the group. We also work with a couple of local restaurants and caterers who often bring and serve dinner to our guests onsite.

Inside, you’ll be transported back in time thanks to the authentically rustic construction and ambiance. We have renovated many of the rooms and bathrooms bathrooms and now offer some basic modern amenities such as high-speed WiFi, a hot tub, and keypad locks - yet the Lodge retains her unmatched historic charm. We have 6 rooms, 5 of which offer private attached bathrooms, and three of which (the XL suites) offer multiple-bed options (up to three beds each).

The common areas include x2 living/sitting rooms with book-share libraries, TV's, and high speed wifi access, as well as our especially charming dining/banquet room that you'll want to write home about. This room boasts a wood stove set on a hearth made from local river stones. The walls, floors, ceiling, and counter tops are made from local, reclaimed wooden beams. There is a collection of vintage wooden hand tools that are original to the property, as well as a collection of rare vintage skies. You'll find communal coffee and tea stations, a communal refrigerator for guest food & bev, a sink, a microwave, and a hot plate.

"Outside is where the magic happens". The Lodge is set amongst 25 acres of quiet woods, set up high and about a half mile off the road. We have over 10 acres of yard space, plus an adjoining 15 acres of untouched woods that are perfect for nature walks, bird watching, etc. Our guests enjoy a laid back, family-friendly setting with a campground vibe. Many nights you will find a few of the guests gathering together around one of our fire pits in the yard, fishing in the trout pond, or looking for frogs and salamanders in the stream with the kids. There is a stream running through the property which feeds the pond and serves up a beautiful background audio track. In our primary yard, there is deck & patio with outdoor furniture, BBQ grill, and a 6-person hot tub. We also have multiple fire pits around the yard for those guests who'd like to keep the family circle. If you keep your eyes peeled (and sometimes even if you don't!), you're likely to spot some of our local residents from 'the neighborwoods' - chipmunks, red squirrels, birds of prey, muskrats, foxes, skunks, beavers, and black bears.

We aren't fancy... but we do have a background in preparing and serving halfway decent food, and we pride ourselves on offering above-average breakfast grub for our guests. Whatever ingredients we can't grow in our own raised beds, we source from local farmers, produce stands, dairies, and bakeries. Included in the price of the rooms is an 'above and beyond' hot continental breakfast bar. Additionally we also offer a hot/ made-to-order menu each morning: $10/$5 adults/kids. We like to think that this is the best value on the mountain (and the only place to get a hot breakfast in this area), but come see for yourself! *See our menu on our website!

The Woodshed Lodge is the closest independent lodging facility to Jay Peak Resort, just 3 miles and less than 5 minutes up the hill. We are only two minutes from the two of Jay, where you can find a grocery store, liquor store, family restaurant, sandwich/deli/cafe, gas station, ski shop, and gift shop. For larger shopping trips or nights out 'on the town', the city of Newport is a 25 minute drive. For epic mountain biking, Burke Mountain is about 45 minutes. For hiking, we are 5 minutes down the road from the access to both the Catamount Trail and the Long Trail. On the other side of the mountain (about 12 min drive), you'll find the charming town of Montgomery, with multiple dining and Apres options.

In addition to the nightly room bookings, we host weddings, events, and group retreats. Please message us to inquire about booking out the entire property.

Hi, we’re Bill and Karla! We both hail from the Carolinas originally, but have recently relocated to Jay, Vermont after falling in love with the Green Mountain State. Both of us have a strong background in hospitality, having spent our careers working on charter yachts. We purchased the Woodshed Lodge in May of 2021, and after a couple of months of renovations and restructuring, we are very happy and very excited to be able to host you in this uniquely charming, historic property.
