High above San Miguel in a lovely private walled 3/4 acre compound with gardens and fruit trees lies this cozy chapel with own kitchen, bathroom and patio. A tiny store right next door means you can buy some necessities. Kitchen and bathroom are separate from the chapel, a few feet away across the patio.
Owner has lived in the big house on the property for almost 30 years and the neighborhood is safe and friendly. This is NOT a gated community- it's a real neighborhood with its own personality and style.
The Virgin of Guadalupe on the corner draws Friday prayer nights and all the neighbors know each other and are friendly to foreign visitors.
The apartment is merely 8 downhill blocks to the parroquia in downtown San Miguel.
Free enclosed parking feet from the apartment.
Internet on porch of "big house" on property.
Bargain rental with great style!
Sara is one of the most compassionate, caring people I have met. She both anticipates needs (she stocked the fridge with necessities knowing I would arrive not having time to purchase food for the next day) and solves problems immediately as they arise. I have never experienced a more perfect stay anytime in my travels--Sara made my stay in SMA an experience to write home about!!
Sara was a great host; made me feel instantly welcomed and was easy to talk to about just about anything. The accommodation was perfect for me. Personally I would have found it difficult to match what I had. A beautiful place to live (the chapel) and the surrounding grounds are extensive, beautiful and very private. I loved the mostly Mexican neighborhood and the little cobbled alleyways to get there. You have the choice at Sara's to either hide away or blend in with the locals. This accommodation best suits the independent traveler or couple who would like to spend more than just a few days in beautiful San Miguel. I wouldn't recommend it for families or people who are not very active. There is a lot of uphill walking which I loved but some people might not. Taxis are cheap and easy to find but could become expensive if you are there for the long haul. Although the city center is only a 15 minute walk away it's down a fairly steep hill. Good cardio on the way back up. However if this isn't going to worry you then get in quick. This place is a winner and so is Sara. You will love your experience here.
Sara and her partner Bill are big hearted hosts. Their clan who reside on the property and in the neighborhood and world make the experience of staying with them even more colorful amidst the comings and goings. The accomodation in the chapel is private but also part of this little community as you choose.
Sara F. was an extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful host who went out of her way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. She has lived in San Miguel for over 30 years and has lots to share about local restaurants, markets and the lifestyle of the town. While we enjoyed being tucked away in a residential neighbourhood, there isn't much right around the chapel so you have to treck into town for most things. That being said taxis are widely available and affordable. Just depends if you like to be in the thick of things or tucked away. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and would especially recommend a trip to the botanical gardens nearby Sara's place.
Sara's chapel is lovely, simple and beautiful. Bath and kitchen were in a separate little building across the patio, and everything worked without any glitches. Whatever I needed was provided; the setting is a little above the city center, very quiet and secure, and it made an ideal base for exploring. Sara is a lovely and charming hostess, and it was a delight to meet her. It was the best place I ever stayed in in Central Mexico, and I did not want to leave! Thank you Sara!
My stay in the chapel was perfect...for one man or a young couple the price was right.Sara has a beautiful home and the walled compound and gardens were amazing. With the help of the maid and Sara's niece,Lisa, my stay was quite comfortable.
My husband and I had a fantastic time in San Miguel de Allende and really enjoyed our time in this Chapel. There's so much charm--and, fun to think about, lots of history in this place.
We arrived early in the morning and Sara's friendly housekeeper, Marta, welcomed us and gave us great directions to coffee shops, etc. We also met Sara's niece, who was staying in the "big house." She was super helpful, too. Prior to our trip, Sara was quick to respond to our emails and answered our questions with great recommendations; a fabulous host.
There are a few things to know: this place is on the top of the hill, above SMdA. It's a hike of slightly less than a mile to the jardin, but it's mostly vertical--or seems it. Another word to help convince you to bring good walking shoes: cobblestone. We like hiking, but if you don't, there are cabs.
Also, the chapel is "cozy" (code for small--but so is the price) and, if you're not familiar with the layout of some Mexican houses, you have to walk outside to get to the kitchen or the bathroom. We have great memories of our vacation and would definitely stay here again!
