About this listing

A wonderful and cozy place to stay just a stones throw away from Midtown Manhattan. Perfect for large gatherings, sleeps 8 guest comfortably an you can add air mattress' throughout to cozy up your stay with up to 12 guest. Perfect for families. This

The space

Situated just one stop from Manhattan in Dutch Kills, Long Island City, sits a lovely little house that we call The Cottage.
Built in the early 20th Century, this frame house would be like an old story book cottage if it weren't so close to the city. There are 4 bedrooms to accommodate a large group. There are accommodations for infants also, so just let us know. All of the bedrooms are on the second floor with a full bathroom to use.
The main floor has a full kitchen with a family size refrigerator. So if you plan on staying for a while, fill up the fridge. There is a dining table that can easily accommodate a large group (six chairs, but can be extended to hold 10). The living room is comfy and cozy and you will always have lots of natural light coming thru the windows. On the main floor there is another bathroom with a standing shower so there is no waiting in line. The main floor has a small bedroom that sleeps one guest. So if you have someone that cannot go up the stairs easily, this room should be helpful.
There is a garden in the front where you can sit to relax after a long day of sight seeing. Right in front of our gate is the bike path to cross over into Manhattan so if you like to ride bikes, we can help get them for you, just let us know how many (there is a charge for this from the local bike shop). Our block is quiet and you will never be bothered by traffic going by.
Our Cottage is set back 75 feet from the curb and feels so secluded. If you like to entertain you will have no problem doing it at The Cottage or in the Garden. You can BBQ or relax next to the chiminea.

We look forward to meeting you,

Interaction with guests

I am just a phone call away, but I believe in giving you all the privacy you need to enjoy the cottage as if it were your own home. We leave it up to you.

We had a very nice stay at Richard's place. We booked Richard's place very last minute and we are a group of 7 people, so we are super happy about it. Richard is very easy to communicate. He is also very flexible on the time. The place was really clean, cozy and great for a group like us. It's a very short walk to the subway station. It's also very quite at night. Highly recommend Richard's place.

We all loved the house, 8 of us stayed for 4 nights. The accommodation is fairly basic but had everything we needed. It's not a swanky Manhattan apartment, but is a detached house which was great for us as a group, we could come home in the evenings and not have to worry if we were a bit loud after a few drinks. Perfect for a group. You can hear subway and road traffic, but that should be expected really and didn't bother us. There are plenty of shops, bars and eateries close by and it was nice to be staying just outside of Manhatten, but with excellent links into the city. Richard was available if we needed him but not at all intrusive, great host.

Richard's place is cozy and comfortable, fully loaded with all the amenities. The neighbourhood is quite and feels safe. The kitchen was the best part of the deal. Saved a lot on the food expenses. Richard was a great help in whatever we needed and the compliance level was legendary. I strongly recommend this house for people in large groups.

Our stay at The Cottage for the New Year's holiday was perfect. This little cottage offers more than meets the eye. It is substantially larger than we anticipated and utilized the well equipped kitchen for breakfast every morning. There was sufficient sleeping space for our large group of 8. The Cottage was very clean and had a "homey" feel to it. The Cottage is located between 2 NYC Subway stops making it very easy to visit the city along with walking distance to restaurants, a few bars for nightlife, a coffee shop and a market for essentials. Richard, the host, could not have been easier and responsive to communicate with via e-mail and text.

Born and raised in Dutch Kills, Long Island City, I am interested in my community's vibrant revival. My family and I have lived on the same street for so many years, really I can't remember how long. With two young children and a busy wife, we still find time play hard. We participate in many local community events that help promote our little town at the foot of the Queens Boro Bridge. My wife owns and operates a Daycare for Children and I am involved in some local business' here in Dutch Kills. I am a football fanatic and love traveling by sea, not air!
We would be so pleased to help you enjoy your stay here at the Cottage and if there is anything we can do for you, please ask.
