Located 40 min from NRT and 70 min from TYO, it offers a quiet escape into the Japanese countryside.
INASHIKI NEST is a private, traditional Japanese house surrounded by peaceful rice fields and a tiny field.
Not a tourist destination, but a place to experience everyday rural Japan.
Wake up to birdsong, harvest seasonal herbs and veges, enjoy fresh herbal tea from the garden, and relax on the engawa while feeling the countryside breeze.
There is no nearby train station, so a car is essential.
The space
We/ INASHIKI NEST is a privately rented guesthouse, limited to one group per day, set within a 50-year-old traditional Japanese house.
We are neither a completely unstaffed rental nor a commercial tourist hotel. The house you will stay in retains the nostalgic atmosphere of a cozy grandmother's home, complete with a traditional engawa veranda and tatami mats. Over the years, we have lovingly and slowly renovated it by hand to ensure your stay is comfortable.
Right before your eyes lies our small kitchen garden filled with fresh vegetables and herbs, opening up to a vast landscape of rice fields characteristic of the Kanto plain. It is a classic Japanese countryside scene that might remind you of the heartwarming world of "My Neighbor Totoro."
As your hosts, we live in a separate building on the same property, ensuring that your guest house remains a completely private space for you to relax.
We invite you to enjoy a stay that cherishes both nostalgic warmth and modern comfort.

[Slow down your pace: We recommend a 2+ night stay]
Imagine waking up to birds singing, brewing tea with fresh herbs from the garden, and enjoying homegrown vegetables.
Whether you want to explore Lake Kasumigaura, take a quiet walk through the rice fields, or do nothing at all—lounging on the veranda or relaxing on the tatami—the day is completely yours to enjoy, in whatever way suits your mood.
Spending time here allows your heart to slowly unwind.
To truly experience the peaceful atmosphere and seasonal changes of our home, a stay of two nights or more is the perfect choice.
*Discount available for stays of 2 nights or more.*
[Spending Time Here: Your Countryside Experience at INASHIKI NEST]
Upon Arrival: We will show you around the guesthouse facilities, and if you would like, we are more than happy to give you a mini-tour of our kitchen garden.
During Your Stay: The time is completely yours to enjoy. You can read a book on the engawa veranda, pick fresh herbs, or look for seasonal creatures like little tree frogs in the yard. Since Narita Airport is relatively close, you can also enjoy watching airplanes glide beautifully across the sky.
The Sounds of Nature: Depending on the season, you will wake up to the gentle singing of birds in the morning, and fall asleep to the comforting chorus of frogs at night.
Exploring the Area: Some guests choose to go out and explore nearby Lake Kasumigaura, the historic town of Sawara, or take day trips around Ibaraki, while others simply prefer to do nothing at all and lounge comfortably at the house.
We truly hope that all of our guests can experience a rich, peaceful time here, connecting with the shifting seasons and the beauty of nature.
Guest access
*Since there is no nearby train station, we recommend arriving by car. However, some guests choose to cycle here from Narita Airport or Tsuchiura Station.
*We live with our cat, Fuku, in a separate building on the property (the host’s residence).
Fuku never enters the guest house. However, if you wish, you can spend about 30 minutes interacting with him in his private room, accompanied by me (the host).
Fuku is quite fickle and moody, but he is absolutely adorable :)
*For allergy and hygiene reasons,
We kindly ask that guests not be allowed to bring pets to the accommodation.
*Taxis generally do not come out to this area.
Even if you manage to arrive here by taxi, it may not be easy to arrange a return trip, as this is a remote location.
For that reason, we highly recommend coming by car or bike.
*You can check our current scenery, kitchen garden, and daily life on INASHIKI NEST's SNS before your stay.
Other things to note
While we maintain cleanliness inside the property, please be aware that being in the countryside, you may encounter insects.
We/Hosts are lining in a different house.
If you need assistance or have any concerns between 8:00 and 19:00, please feel free to notify us.
