The apartment is in a top location in one of Neukoellns hip & most desirable areas - the Schillerkiez. Cobbled and leafy streets centered around a local church give this area a residential but city feel. Since the closing of historic Berlin Tempelhof airport in 2008, the area has enjoyed an influx of families and young creative types from all over the world. More bars, cafes, galleries and shops are sprouting up weekly and the atmosphere on the streets is relaxed and multi-cultural. On your door step you will find a weekly organic food market with the large Oriental Market by beautiful Landwehr canal only a quick 5 min tube ride away. Plenty of flea markets in the area too. The airport has been turned into Europe's largest urban park - you can jog, kite surf, hire bikes/ segways, build a vegetable plot in the community garden, BBQ or even enjoy year round exhibitions or festivals. There are baseball and basketball courts, beer gardens and history centers. It also doubles up as the site for biannual Berlin Fashion Week and its Bread & Butter trade show. Walk down the runway & catch the sunset over the city landscape. Aside from being 100m away from the park, the location also delivers on all other aspects of great city living. The vibrant high streets of Hermannstrasse as well as Karl Marx Strasse are only a short 5 min walk away and offer a range of shopping, dining and other cultural opportunities. The closest tube station is Boddinstrasse (5 min walk) which has great links to all other central areas of Berlin as well as Berlin International airport (35 min). Additionally, Hasenheide Park, a natural woodland park adjacent to the airport park offers another great outdoors experience with various summer activities like festivals and open air cinema screenings. The open air Columbia swimming pool (5 min walk) has, after extensive renovation just been re-opened and is the perfect place to cool of during Berlins summer heat. All you need is WALKING DISTANCE and to top it off, we are two floors above a really nice bar/ cafe!
We also have lots of books and DVDs as well as board games in the flat in case you want to spend the odd rainy day lounging at home and immersing yourself into a Berlin history lesson.
I love to host and will make sure that you have a comfortable and welcoming stay!
Look forward to hearing from you.
You will have the flat all to yourself ... whilst I am not there, my home is your home.
I will meet you to check you in, give you the keys and explain anything of importance regarding the apartment. If you do need my help during your stay, you can always call me or contact me via email or Air BNB message. I am more than happy to help you out with recommendations etc whilst you are here.
The beauty about this neighborhood is the eclectic mix of people ... students, young families, grandmothers, creatives, tourists and people from other cultures. The cobbled streets lined with beautiful trees and night time gas lamps and its many random cafes and shops make this a real Berlin gem. The fact that this neighborhood is not perfectly polished gives it a real local experience and adds a whole lot of charm. One of the main attractions of course is the huge derelict Tempelhof Airport which has been turned into Europe's biggest city adventure park... you won't find a place like this anywhere else in this world. Nature & history combined into one make this an incredible urban space. Hasenheide woodland park, a large outdoor swimming pool and the proximity to Kreuzbergs bars & clubs make this a perfect city getaway spot.
You will be very well connected here as you have close access to the S-Bahn ring which circles the city. It's only a 5 min walk to the underground station which takes you through Kreuzberg and into Mitte. Also airport access is easy and quick from here. About 35 min to get to Schoenefeld.
Please remember that you are living in somebodys flat and that there are local, normal people in the building that go about their usual lives. Please respect that and keep noise & disruption at night to a minimum. There has been a lot of negative press lately, especially regarding Air BnB and tourists that stay in local people's homes and treat it like a party ground ... if people in the buidling ask you any questions, please just say you ar visiting friends. It's more discrete and keeps everyone happier. Thank you

Dre is a wonderful host! He was very easy to communicate with and was incredibly understanding when unforeseen circumstances meant we had to change our dates.
His flat is beautiful and in a lovely location. He's kindly created a map with great recommendations on some of the best places to check out and has many books on Berlin, all of which were very useful during our stay. I'd recommend Dre as a host and we would happily stay with him again!
We stayed at Gary and Andreas' apartment for three nights and had the best time ever. The apartmet is very spacious, with high ceilings and great styling. We especially loved the old phones from the DDR-era and even bought one ourselves at the fleamarket on Boxhagenerplatz.
The location of the flat is perfect; just a few minutes walk to the U-bahn station and 1 minute to Tempelhof, which has a great vibe and is especially good for outside sports. We went to a few nearby bars and cafes that were recommended by Dre on the map and they all were great. Dre was not there to give us the key but because he communicated very well by e-mail we still felt very welcome. I'm already spreading the word to my friends.
Dre should be the benchmark for all airbnb hosts, he was incredibly easy to communicate with, lovely to speak to, and made sure my entire stay was great. Unfortunately he was not in Berlin when I checked in, but I am sure he is just as responsible and charming in person. Even when I accidentally left something very valuable in the apt after I checked out and he was responsive and worked with his cleaning lady to return everything to me!
Now on to the apartment: I've stayed in many airbnb apartments in Berlin and this is by far my favorite! It is stunningly decorated in mid-century modern Danish furniture with high ceilings and tons of light, and beautiful wood floors. The bathroom was luxurious and the kitchen has a well-designed map with all the insider-information sights to see in Berlin.
One tip though: the wifi works best in the kitchen and in the livingroom chairs nearest to the front door. Doesn't work so well in the bedroom or in the dining table.
Definitely learn how to play their board game labyrinth (find the video instructions on youtube), a couple friends and I spend hours playing it one night and it was fun!
A lovely, spacious, vintage modern-decorated apartment right at the entrance to the airstrip park near Neukolln. Comfy bed, well equipped kitchen, washing machine, and a small balcony where you can see the sun set towards the park. Cafes and bars are popping up on lots of side streets in the area--yet it is still very local and blue collar area. If you have time to explore (and enjoy the search) this is a great neighborhood and apartment, 5 minutes from the subway as well as a bus that goes straight to Schoneberg, probably my favorite neighborhood filled with cafes and thrift shoes and a fantastic modern pool. The Neukolln pool nearby is a beautiful old bath house and was quiet when I went at noon mid-week. Overall loved my three week stay here and highly recommend for young couples and singles looking to experience local Berlin.
Dre was v communicative and helpful! The flat was clean and really fabulous and as described. It is spacious but very cosy as well- with a guidebook on hand and a great map of interesting things to see in berlin!
The area was quiet but near transport- with a great cafe across the road, some great shops and restaurants a short walk away- it's a great area-
I will def. stay again and highly recommend this flat!!
Dre's house was very clean, organized and enjoyable to stay in. I liked the design choices and the location was good. Easy to reach the train and lots of good food near by and bars to check out. I'd stay there again!
Dre is the best host I´ve ever come across!
Really helpful on any matter and also this is a guy who knows Berlins gems.
Loved the apartment and the area, clean, neat, cozy and a perfect stay away from home.
To sum it up, this is the place you want to stay when in Berlin!
Thank you Dre
