The Space

Pouso da Cajaíba is an exotic beach, with incredible natural beauty located about one hour by boat from Paraty-RJ.

Excellent for the practice of fishing, surfing, diving, trekking ... Formed by a community of fishermen who abitaram this region since the beginning of last century.

Environmental conservation area with a strong presence and local culture. Feel the experience of staying in a house typically beach local, more feet in the sand as possible. Sleep with the sound of the sea and a wonderful on a wooden deck with full view of the sea from the beach and sky.

The town is located on the Bay of Ilha Grande, which is dotted with many tropical islands. Rising up as high as 1,300 meters behind the town are tropical forests, mountains, and waterfalls. It is the southernmost and westernmost city in Rio de Janeiro state.

  • We were a group of 4 friends who decided to get away from it all, and this was the place to go! It is truly remote, beautiful and you fall asleep to the sound of the waves lapping on the beach. There are flowers everywhere in the perfect tropical setting - and humming birds in the trees.

The house is situated on a small beach called Praia pouso de caijaba which is 1 hour from Paraty by boat. We had to pay R$300 to get there (it was late in the day) and R$200 to get back - so if your negotiating skills are better than ours, you might be able to get a better deal - recommend setting out early in the morning.

The house is basic, has no electricity and very few implements to cook with (however there is a gas stove) - so recommend you bring everything you think you might need. There is no refrigerator. However there are 2 showers with hot water, and the house can sleep up to 5 people comfortably.

There is one hammock which is great for lazing in the afternoon sun.

We arrived at the tail end of summer, and so the 2 shops, one bakery and pizza restaurant were all closed. Luckily we brought enough food with us, and BBQ charcoal and beers etc. So we were happy. The fishermen in the hut next door sold us a freshly caught, beautiful tuna fish which was very tasty. Also local women offered to cook for us if we were stuck...

The check in involved a leap of faith as we could not contact the host prior to departing Paraty - however when we arrived on the beach, keys had been left with neighbours and we had no problems getting in and making ourselves at home.

Watching the boats in the bay and relaxing by the fire we made in the evening was blissful. Ensure you take mosquito repellent. Phone reception is not good there - if you choose to go, you will be rewarded with peace and quiet in abundance. Just make sure you are well prepared for that!

  • We were not able to stay in our booking - the host was not contactable. We missed out on a great experience. A GREAT inconvenience.
    A pity. Cannot recommend.

I think the most important thing to know before booking the house is how is Pouso da Cajaíba (at least out of season): a beach with a small village about 2 hours by boat from Paraty, with electricity from solar panels and car batteries, one bar, one bakery and one restaurant. Knowing this, the house is definitely a great choice! It's a simple house, no hot water and only a few lamps for up to 5 people. The house is really at the beach and the best part of it is to sleep and wake up to the sound of the sea. We were only for a couple of days there, so we did not go to the other beaches. Arriving at Pouso da Cajaíba was a bit tricky: we arrived around 6PM in Paraty and we did not get anyone to take us there by boat. The cheapest (but time consuming) options are the fishermen boats (they charge around R$ 30 to R$ 50 per person) and is much easier to find one if you are in a group. You can also rent a faster boat for at least R$ 200.
If you like the idea of a remote beach, I recommend booking this place!

  • A casa do Pedro é simplesmente deslumbrante!
