We didn't get to meet Stefano, but his wife Rosanna greeted us, and she was very kind and helpful. She told us about local swimming areas, which we really enjoyed. I came to Roccatederighi for a week long workshop, so I was very happy with the location and comfort of the house. The village is unique and has some great restaurants. I also liked the ceramic shop. Many amazing views, even from the bedroom window! We struggled a bit with the wifi, but there is wifi available at nearby Garum, which has a really friendly staff and yummy pizza. Thanks to Stefano and Rosanna for hosting!
My first trip to Italy & this ticked all the boxes. Staying in a medieval hill-top town with glorious views over the Tuscan countryside Stefano's charming & unique house proved a perfect base for exploring this slightly lesser known part of the region. If you want to experience the true appeal of the countryside & the people who live there this place should feature high on your list, thoroughly recommended.
Rosanna met us at the agreed time & location and was extremely enthusiastic & helpful with tips for our stay.
Grazie.
Stefano was great! Prompt friendly and very nice. House was very nice. Little difficult to find the meeting spot and the climb to the house with luggage was not easy. We would stay here again.
Roccatederighi is a lovely hill town, not too big and not too small. Stephano's apartment is a delight, a thoughtful and artistic re-do of a medieval home. It is located in the highest quarter of the old town, full of atmospherics. There are a couple of quality, small food shops nearby, one even within the medieval area. The town also has a small COOP food store open in the afternoon. The nearby Garum Restaurant has wi-fi, something we needed, as we couldn't get the apartment wi-fi to work for our 4 days there. Stephano lives 2 hours away, so is reliant on friends in the village to help. Despite this handicap, and a day delay to get the pellet stove to heat the place, the apartment is really worth it.
Our stay was like a magical fairytale! The apartment is located in the historical center of Roccatederighi, a small mountain town where only ~40 people reside. We were not able to meet Stefano, but we were instead greeted by his partner Rosanna who kindly welcomed us with warm enthusiasm. The apartment is one of a kind: a perfect blend of old and new with a majestic view of the Tuscan countryside. We enjoyed the colorful and peaceful apartment, the quaint narrow medieval streets that wind through the hills of the town, the rock formations that overlook the countryside and distant ocean while church bells toll, and most of all, the warm embrace by the people of Roccatedirighi. The locals are so friendly and inviting, and they welcomed us to town as if we were family. We also liked the proximity to several restaurants and cafes, which were only a 5 minute walk. Additionally, it is only a short drive to neighboring hill towns, 1 hour from Siena, and 1 hour from the beautiful beach near Castiglione della Pescaia. A minor note is that the wifi did not work for us, but there were ethernet cables to enable wired connection. We hope to return very soon!
