A beautiful two-room apartment with a balcony overlooking the Canal St-Martin, right across from a public park, the Jardin Villemin, our apartment enjoys superb views of the Canal, of Sacré-Coeur, and of the Paris skyline.
This wonderful space is just ideal for three adults or for a family of four. Children love staying, so don't dream of leaving them Home Alone !
The entirely-renovated, bay-windowed 5th-floor apartment, in a delightful building from the early years of the 20th century with many period features, is light and airy, and is a wonderful base for those wishing to visit Paris and discover our fascinating and historic quarter, where restaurants abound and the nightlife is for the taking.
Meals are a delight taken on the spacious balcony, and the quays of the Canal Saint-Martin are traffic-free for most of the weekend, adding extra charm to what is already a perfectly-situated rental.
The fully-equipped kitchen with washing machine has a new electric cooker and an inducton hob, the cleanest and most efficient system around.
The well-designed bathroom benfits from sink, WC, and - a special feature - a shower set with sea cobble from the renowned Fleswick Bay on the shores of the English Lake District.
You will sleep easy, for the bedroom has a new queen-size bed and all-new appropriate furnishings, and there is also an elegant new double sofa-bed in the salon, ideal for an adult stop-over or for children. (If you plan on using the comfortable sofa-bed, please be aware that IS a sofa-bed, and that these can never quite replace a real bed !)
The free broadband wireless internet system also lets you call free to landlines in many countries, including the whole of Europe, the USA & Canada, Australia & New Zealand, China & Taiwan, India, and many other countries too numerous to list here. Cable TV, with a vast choice of English and foreign-language channels, is also free of charge.
All linen is provided, as well as crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, and you also will find all the usual items, such as an iron and ironing board, hair-dryer, vacuum cleaner and brushes.
We pride ourselves upon giving our guests a well-prepared space, and to this end we now allow our cleaners a whole day between lettings to clean and wash. The added bonus for the guest is flexibility when arriving and leaving - no more getting out early to make room for the next victim ! Within reason, you arrive and leave when you please, and we shall always do our best to be there to greet you, to make sure you are comfortable, and to bid you farewell at the end of your stay.
The Canal area is one of the most sought-after quarters of Paris, with green spaces, historic buildings, bars, restaurants, galeries, and, of course, the Canal itself, on your doorstep. The courtyard of the Hôpital St-Louis is not to be missed, and the fabled Place des Vosges (the work of the same architect) is close by in the Marais. Again, the charming Parc des Buttes Chaumont is only a walk away.
Shopping could not be simpler, with markets nearby, a fine shopping street, the rue de Lancry, a step away. And with a supermarket only 20 metres away, you can even pop out for a pint of milk in your slippers !
Transport links are the very best in Paris, with two mainline railway stations only minutes away, and nearby stations serving no fewer than eight Métro lines and two RER lines, with bus routes also close at hand -
Jacques Bonsergent (Line 5) - a 5 min walk ...
République (Lines 3, 5, 8, 9 & 11) - a 7 min walk - ALSO DIRECT MÉTRO to the EUROLINES INTERNATIONAL COACH TERMINAL ...

We had a wonderful 2 nights' stay in Ian's apartment. Lovely views and easy to get to metro etc. Ian was straight back to us when we left a message to say we were struggling with the Internet. Very helpful, pleasant man.
The apartment was accurately described on the website and was perfect for the week we spent there.
Although we did not meet Ian during our stay, his communication before, during and afterwards was very quick and efficient. Ian supplied full instructions on how to operate the various appliances and features of the apartment as well as helpful advice on local restaurants and travel tips.
The furniture in the apartment was comfortable and there was a good supply of towels etc.
The kitchen area, although small, was fully equipped and there was sufficient pans etc. to allow for self catering (the nearest market is less than ten minutes walk).
By far the best feature of the apartment is the balcony. We probably spent more time sat outside than we did inside! It was great spot for watching the world go by and the view across to the Sacre Coeur, especially at night, is fabulous.
We had a great week and would not hesitate to book the apartment again.
We loved the flat. Was immaculate and spacious. View from balcony is far better than shown in photos and balcony would be lovely in good weather. Area great for cool shops and cafés. Would definitely come back!
Ian and Sophie's apartment was such a find! It's in the most wonderful location, right on the Canal Saint Martin and we very much enjoyed sitting out on the sunny balcony with a glass of wine and a plate of cheese, watching the world go by!
You have a direct line of sight from the balcony to the Sacré Coeur, which looks beautiful at any time of day but particularly in the striking sunset we got to view.
The apartment itself was perfect. The lounge and bedroom are good sizes, the bedroom has a very comfortable bed and the shower is nice and powerful. I very much liked standing on the stones that Ian has set into the shower floor! It was all very clean, well presented and well equipped.
I would highly recommend Ian and Sophie's apartment as a place to stay in Paris. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars in the vicinity and it's a perfect base to explore from (definitely walk north up the canal if you can and I'd recommend visiting the beautiful Parc des Buttes-Chaumont). It's very easy to walk to the apartment from the Gare du Nord and close to the metro to get around the wider city.
Ian and Sophie were excellent hosts: Ian sent over a whole raft of helpful information and tips prior to our trip and arranged for his lovely friend Gheorghe to meet us and show us around the apartment (who kindly carried my case upstairs!).
I would most certainly stay here again if the opportunity arises!
Perfect location! breakfast in the morning looking at the Canal is amazing. The neighbourhood was amazing, including great restaurants and boulangeries. It was also great to walk everywhere and don´t have to ask for a cab. We will love to repeat!
We loved staying at Ian & Sophie's apartment. The location is the best! With a wonderful view on Sacre Coeur and the canal. The neighborhood is full of great restaurants, coffee shops and hidden gems such as the Hôpital Saint-Louis (probably not a hidden gem for Parisians, but for us it was!).
Ian & Sophie were most welcoming and helpful and their apartment is very well equipped and comfortable!
Our stay in Paris was fantastic! The apartment is SO central, without being in the middle of all the tourists. The view is spectacular and although some people might find the apartment a bit cosy for 4 people, for our purposes it was perfect. Our twin girls slept in the living room on the pull-out couch. Ian could not have done more to make sure that our stay went off without a hitch.....we highly recommend the apartment to anyone passing through Paris. Thanks Ian!
We had a great time in Ian's apartment. It is cozy, well equipped and has a stunning view on the canal S.Martin and Montmartre. The neighborhood is full of cafes, restaurants and shops. There is a small supermarket next door. At the Gare de l'Est (5 minutes walking) there are several metro lines and buses. Highly recommended.
We have spent a New Year holiday week in Paris at Ian's appartment. It was very wonderful time. We'd like to thank Ian for very good location of the flat: it is situated in a good and calm district, near to the metro station. Appartment is nicely equipped, there is anything you need for comfortable staying. Ian is very nice and thoughtful man.
We are advising this appartment for everyone who need to find a place to stay in Paris.
