Happy to give advice about the area and other great places from my 7 year (travel and cultural) experience in Japan and share a glass of wine and a chat with my guests
It is a green and very quiet residential area; just 2 minutes walk into a forest and 10 minutes walk to the Zoo and Botanical garden. However, a 24 h convenience store is just a 2 minutes walk away and public transport is not too far as well.
I had a very enjoyable stay in Nagoya with Berthold. The modern apartment is a stone's throw from the University and reasonably close to highways. It was thus convenient getting there in the evening, and then in the morning moving on to the airport.
Berthold generously shared his time and views on many aspects of Japan and Japanese society in evening discussions and again at breakfast.
Bert was a fabulous host! He provided us with an awesome room and lovely insider advice about the area. We so enjoyed our stay!
Our stay at Bert's place was really nice. The futons were very comfy and his place is in a quiet and nice area of Nagoya. Easy access by 20 min walking to the subway too. We got our own key and the room was great and very tidy. He knows a lot not only about Nagoya, but also about the surrounding area, which really made our stay at his place a highlight on our trip. Very much recommended.
Berthold was a great host who made us feel very welcome and at home as soon as we arrived. He also gave us very detailed instructions on how to get to his apartment and also lots of tips on what to see in Nagoya.
I would recommend Bert's place to anyone wishing to stay in Nagoya or nearby.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Bert. Easy access to the subway also means that all of Nagoya opens up for you after a brief walk.
When I arrived I knew next to nothing about the area around Nagoya or the intricacies of life in Japan. Bert however is a very knowledgeable host who is willing to share all he knows freely.
Pick his brain and you will find a treasure trove of details about places to visit, foods to try and cultural curiosities to discover.
Well worth it!
Mr Fischer was a very kind person, which give us a lot of advice during this trip.
The place was comfortable and relax.
Probably one of the best experiences in Nagoya. Bert is a wondeful host. Me and my buddies stayed for one night, but that one night was wondeful. Seriously, Bert is very welcoming, helpful and insightful and please follow his advise and tips. He knows Nagoya very well and his advise on shortcuts will save you time. Also, don't do the same mistake that I did and forget his detailed instructions. Highly recommended on printing because it saves time than looking it up on an email inbox, unless you downloaded / saved the email as an offline copy then it's all good. When you do have the instructions, follow it; you'll save time and some money to get there. For us it was ok to spend the extra 150 yen to see a bit around, but just something to note.
Again, Bert is magnificent. We spent a good amount of time talking with him about various subjects from his insight of cultures to his iPhone chugging the battery. There is nothing but positive to say about staying there, but if there is a negative, that would be simply we stayed for one night.
Thank you for everything!!
Staying at Berthold's place was a very positive experience. His place was clean and comfortable and he was a gracious host, We even got a chance to enjoy some engaging conversations on a variety of subjects. I will definitely stay with him again on my next trip to Nagoya. His place is highly recommended. Thanks, Bert! -Iffat
