Happy to give advice about the area and other great places from my 7 year (travel and cultural) experience in Japan and share a glass of wine and a chat with my guests
It is a green and very quiet residential area; just 2 minutes walk into a forest and 10 minutes walk to the Zoo and Botanical garden. However, a 24 h convenience store is just a 2 minutes walk away and public transport is not too far as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Bert. Easy access to the subway also means that all of Nagoya opens up for you after a brief walk.
When I arrived I knew next to nothing about the area around Nagoya or the intricacies of life in Japan. Bert however is a very knowledgeable host who is willing to share all he knows freely.
Pick his brain and you will find a treasure trove of details about places to visit, foods to try and cultural curiosities to discover.
Well worth it!
Mr Fischer was a very kind person, which give us a lot of advice during this trip.
The place was comfortable and relax.
Probably one of the best experiences in Nagoya. Bert is a wondeful host. Me and my buddies stayed for one night, but that one night was wondeful. Seriously, Bert is very welcoming, helpful and insightful and please follow his advise and tips. He knows Nagoya very well and his advise on shortcuts will save you time. Also, don't do the same mistake that I did and forget his detailed instructions. Highly recommended on printing because it saves time than looking it up on an email inbox, unless you downloaded / saved the email as an offline copy then it's all good. When you do have the instructions, follow it; you'll save time and some money to get there. For us it was ok to spend the extra 150 yen to see a bit around, but just something to note.
Again, Bert is magnificent. We spent a good amount of time talking with him about various subjects from his insight of cultures to his iPhone chugging the battery. There is nothing but positive to say about staying there, but if there is a negative, that would be simply we stayed for one night.
Thank you for everything!!
Staying at Berthold's place was a very positive experience. His place was clean and comfortable and he was a gracious host, We even got a chance to enjoy some engaging conversations on a variety of subjects. I will definitely stay with him again on my next trip to Nagoya. His place is highly recommended. Thanks, Bert! -Iffat
I and my friends only stayed at Bert's place for a night but we all enjoyed his warm welcome and hospitality. Bert is a great host. He is very nice and flexible. We really hope to return for a longer stay next time :)
Berthold´s place was really cosy and comfortable (real Tatami floor in the bedroom).
We could use the kitchen like it was our own place and Berthold was always there to answer our questions. He knows a lot about Nagoya and Kyoto and gave us good sightseeing tips and how to get there.
It was a great experience! Thanks Berthold :-)
I had a nice stay at Bert's place. Bert provided very good and accurate information about how to get to his place and check-in was smooth.
Bert is a friendly guy and was very welcoming and I felt right at home at his place. We had some good conversations and he is more than happy to help provide you with information and tips for your trip to Japan.
His place is about 1/2 hour from Nagoya station which is the heart of the city where a lot of big name shops and bars are located. To get downtown there is about a 15 minute walk to the subway station (up and down a couple of fairly substantial hills) and then about 15 minutes on the subway. However, I spent a lot of time walking in Japan in Nagoya, Tokyo and Kyoto so I didn't find this overly taxing. Nevertheless, if you are unable to walk a fair ways to get to the transportation or want to be in the heart of the city then this is something to make note of.
Overall I had a very nice experience at Bert's place and I definitely appreciate his hospitality and the help he provided to help make my stay in Nagoya an enjoyable experience.
I only stayed at Bert's for one night, as I was only in Nagoya to catch a flight to China, but I had a great experience. He was very helpful and friendly, and the room was spacious and clean. I hope to return for a longer stay.
I highly recommend this place.
Wonderful spacious (esp. for Japan) apartment, close to Nagoya university and metro. Berthold is very knowledgeable about the area and will tell you anything you may want to know about Nagoya and Japan. Highly recommend.
It's really a comfortable and cozy place! And Berthold is a nice host, he picked me up to his place even though he's on duty. The location is convenient, too. I really like the way from Berthold's place to metro station, I saw traditional Japanese houses, which are very awesome! I really enjoyed nights stayed there! If you guys want to have a relax vacation in Nagoya, Berthold's place is the best choice:)
