About this listing
My lovely, comfortable, cozy, quiet home in the Cedar Mill/Bonny Slope area west of the city of
Portland is a relaxing retreat while exploring beautiful Portland, the northern Oregon coast, and wine country.
My empty nest is tucked away in quiet Cedar Mill, just 8 miles west of downtown Portland and the Pearl district, 75 miles east of Seaside/Cannon Beach, and a few miles north of Beaverton.
From the lovely guest bedroom (very comfy queen bed) with a private en-suite bathroom, step outside onto your secluded patio and soak under the stars in the hot tub nestled among wisteria, rhododendron, apple, cherry, fig, and Italian prune trees. I share the blueberry bushes with the birds and the raspberry bushes with the bees in my bird-friendly backyard habitat. No pesticides are used and only organic fertilizers and compost in the vegetable garden, so it's a pet-safe backyard. ***If you are inquiring about bringing your dog (no cats), please check my house rules.
I provide breakfast items for you - help yourself at your own convenience to freshly ground fair-trade coffee, tea, juice, toast, bagels or muffins, granola, and yogurt. During the summer the fruit is from my garden. If you prefer, you may enjoy breakfast on your own private patio. I love to bake, and I often have homemade muffins or breads to share - often with fruit harvested from my yard.
Relax while watching the sunset from my charming covered deck, or lounge on the wicker yard swing with a good book. Enjoy the fireplace (gas) in the living room, or cozy up around the fire pit on a chilly evening. I have plenty of seasoned firewood for your use.
From tips on where to hear the best live music to walking tours of the city and hills around Portland, kayaking destinations, zydeco, country, salsa, and ballroom dancing hotspots, happy hours, food carts, and terrific ethnic eateries, to tips on the best yoga studio in town...I look forward to sharing all that Portland has to offer.
An added advantage is that you won't pay an additional tax for staying with me - I'm in Washington County and outside of Portland's city limits.
You will also have access to my kitchen/family room, living and dining rooms, wonderful covered deck, pretty backyard, and private patio with hot tub.
Interaction with Guests
We may have as little or as much interaction as you, my guest, would prefer. I have a bounty of tourist brochures, hiking trail guides, tour books and magazines, maps, and personal experience of the area to share with you.
My neighborhood, "The Bluffs," is a wonderful, safe, and supremely quiet suburban neighborhood. Parking is easy - right in front of the house or in the driveway. I am located in unincorporated Washington County, outside of Portland's city limits...so no additional tax to stay here!
Quick, easy access to major Portland highways as well as quick, easy access to MAX light rail at the Sunset Transit Center.
A couple of miles away is the Sunset Transit Center where MAX light rail whisks you around the Portland Metro Area. The Nike World Campus is three miles south, and Intel is about a 15-minute drive west to Hillsboro.
Within five miles you have access to over 80 miles of fabulous hiking trails in Forest Park, one of the largest forested urban reserves in the U.S.
Other Things to Note
Many Oregon vineyards are within a short drive, making for wonderful day trips around Washington and Yamhill counties, and the Red Hills of Dundee! Nearby are the Portland Audubon Society, historic Pittock Mansion, Oregon Zoo (with great summer concerts), and easy access to Portland's wonderful urban neighborhoods, craft breweries, and food carts. Farmers Markets abound from Cedar Mill to Beaverton and beyond.

The light was always on at Ellen's home, including the lovely shimmering lights in the tree outside, so we could find our way home, no matter how late we were out.
My husband and I along with our dog Coco enjoyed a wonderful 4 night stay at Ellen's. Our room was very spacious, the bed was most comfortable, the homemade granola was delicious and Ellen provided wonderful advice about what to see in the area. The location was perfect for us - outside of the city, but still easy to access. I highly recommend a stay here. Ellen was a most gracious host. Thanks so much for making our stay so enjoyable.
It's such a wonderful stay here! Everything is just so nice and comfortable! Ellen is very warm and friendly. She offered many advices about looking around Portland and she even drew us maps! Whenever we needed something, she always helped us. We felt more than welcomed. The room was very cute and its color was beautiful. The bed was as comfortable as you can imagine and the bathroom was neat and clean. We had everything we needed in the room and there were drawers enough for a lot of clothing. When the weather is sunny, the room is packed with sunlight. The sitting room and dinning room were also cozy and homey. The lights were warm and bright. We used the kitchen and it was so well equipped. Ellen welcomed us to use it and she helped us to find the tools we needed. Overall, it's such a nice place and if we are going to come to Portland again, we will definitely stay here!
It felt like coming home when we walked into Ellen's home. She even encouraged us to bring our 5 month old grandson over while our daughter and son-in-law were moving...what a treasure!
I've just spent 5 nights in this wonderfully comfy, cozy home. The room was spacious with plenty of drawers and hangers to hold all my clothes. There is a couch for unwinding and relaxing on before climbing into bed. Climbing under the covers was like tucking yourself between layers in a cloud, allowing for restful sleep without tossing and turning. Everyday, I took full advantage of the hot tub right outside my sliding glass door. The private bathroom was fully stocked with everything necessary. The welcoming kitchen and dining room spoke to me to come in and enjoy. The food offered went far beyond a continent breakfast, and Ellen's communication notes gave me the sense of friendship instead of just a patron. For me, the only thing it was missing was a handful of cute, cuddly kittens to sleep with :) I give this place the highest possible ratings, and will stay here again. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
Our first Air BnB experience. Very lovely and sweet place, easy to get to downtown and close to everything. The room and bath were spacious and the bed was super comfortable, offering a great night of sleep. Our host, Ellen, made us feel so welcome and offered a tasty breakfast of homemade granola and introduced us to fresh picked Mountain Rose apples, which were red inside! and very delicious. Thanks for sharing your home.
